Abraham’s family all like to have a drink and at family parties they tend drink to excess. Abraham says that drinking makes him feel like a “big man”, without a drink Abraham is quiet and unhappy. Abraham is unemployed and he spends most of his benefits money on cheap alcohol. We are said to go through these stages from birth all the way to adulthood, at different ages we gratify these different sexual areas with different stimulation (breast feeding, expulsion of faeces, etc.) Abraham should be in the genital stage that effects a child from puberty onwards, he should show heterosexual interest in people of a similar age and have the ability to form mature relationships assuming he has successfully transitioned through each stage. Failure to transition a stage would result in what is called a fixation
