A good presenter is someone who ensures the information being presented is interesting, is not made up or fake, not a speech or written essay being read off paper. As someone who is performing a presentation, you should always ask these questions to ensure the audience is getting the best possible experience. 1.How does/is your audience (going to) feel about the subject being presented? What would they want to hear me talk about? 2.Is my delivery being executed in such a way the audience gets the clear message in the tone desired? Ensure you're getting the message across and getting across the way you want. 3.What is the objective of my speech? What is my speech trying to accomplish? What is the motive? 4.How would I feel if I were the audience?

In the book, They Say I Say the art of inserting quotations is mentioned to be one of the highest mistakes made by writers. Imagine the look on a veteran’s face as he notices players kneel in disrespect at the sound of the national anthem. Many fans and veterans were disappointed to see Colin Kaepernick, a quarterback in the NFL, refuse to stand while the national anthem was being played. Kaepernick’s actions insulted fans and hurt the sport. When America had no role in creating the racist tragedies, yet it is being disrespected for the incidents. In Bj Gallagher’s article “Donald Trump Is the Epitome of Everything the World Detests -- And Admires -- About America”(Sep.2, 2015), She Implies the positive and negative attributes in Donald Trump, and whether you should vote for him or not. Gallagher first demonstrates by showing the negatives of Donald Trump and his “arrogance” in an article written by Paul Thomas; Gallagher then argued the positive, admirable side of him by comparing his life to one we would all like to live, and to conclude she suggests that Trump is a “fresh breath of air” for millions of Americans by demonstrate that he is unique compared to past presidential leaders. Her purpose is to surpass his brash ego in order to to show he is worth putting your trust in.

Starting a conversation on literature, I can see where I struggle to look deeper into a source for its rhetorical significance. An example of this is in my Immigration and belonging essay as I state, “Reyes’s narrative argues for understanding from the reader with his genre.” (PAGE). While this line sounds significant, I find the preceding sentence struggling to support this claim as there are no quotations or paraphrases that highlight how this sentence is seen emotionally in the article. Following that idea, rhetoric can be easily found by looking at the ethos, logos, and pathos. However, I find that when using this method for finding rhetorical information, my analysis of the source is surface level (as seen in the above example).

Donald Trump uses anaphora to connect with the audience. He frequently says, “We will…” which implies that he will not abandon the citizens while he is the president of the United States. Trump uses anaphora in this example to make the audience feel like he is on the same level as the common person rather than superior to them. Trump uses anaphora to comfort the audience. Franklin Roosevelt also uses anaphora to connect with and assure his audience that he will do what is best for the country. He says, “It can be helped by…” several times toward the end of his speech. In an economy-driven world, not a day goes by where an individual does not see an advertisement of some sort of product related to sports; two of the more popular brands are Nike and Adidas. Both these companies use catchy slogans that both, entice the buyers, and also place a thought into their mind. Nike uses the slogan, “Just Do It”, and Adidas is often seen with slogans like, “Impossible is Nothing” and “All In”. After all, who can just sit in front of a speaker and take in all the formal information they are dumping at you at a constant rate. This is why one of the biggest tricks towards making a successful speech is story-telling. Start of your speech by re-telling a personal story that might engage the audience. Make sure that your story involves a lot to which your audience can relate to, as well as, that your story is relevant to your topic, and concise in length. Trust me, this will have a hypnotic effect on your audience, and it will create a trustful atmosphere in the room. If you do not feel like story-telling during your speech, or you simply cannot think of one at the time, then feel free to replace this with humour, and visuals! Humour evokes many emotions from the audience such as joy, surprise, calmness, and even friendship. When humour is added to presentations, the audience is more attentive, responsive, and in turn, your self esteem rises when you realize your audience is having fun. The same goes for using visuals. The audience wants to see the evidence to your conclusions, by witnessing them with their own two eyes. Make sure to have diagrams and illustration during your presentation if necessary.
