Malnutrion
Introduction
Food will always be one of the most important things in your life. Every living thing on the face of the earth needs nutrition to survive, grow, and reproduce. Unfortunately, about 795 million people in the world do not have enough to eat. This number represents about 1 in 9 people on the planet and is much higher in developing countries where 13% of the population is malnourished. Malnutrition or malnourishment is a condition that results from eating a diet in which there are not enough nutrients or there are so many that the diet causes health problems. A malnourished persons body has difficulty doing normal things like growing and fighting illnesses. Two billion people in the world suffer from various forms of malnutrition. The most basic kind is called protein energy malnutrition. This includes low height and weight and a lack of nutrients that help the body to function properly. Another common group is overweight, obesity, and diet related diseases like diabetes and heart disease. When people refer to world hunger, they are talking about undernutrition. One of the places most affected by this is Sub-Saharan Africa. Sub-Saharan Africa, the area of the African continent that lies south of the Sahara Desert, has the highest level of food insecurity in the world.

Policymakers, social scientist and medical experts have expressed alarm about the growing problem. While most agree that the issue deserves attention, consensus dissolves around how to respond and resolve the problem. Malnourishment continues to be a primary health liability in developing nations such as Asia, sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America. It is globally the most significant risk factor for illness and death, predominantly with hundreds of millions of pregnant women
A health profession is what I desire to study in college and pursue as a career. Going to the Fox Valley health career camp would allow me to experience and learn about medical professions. This opportunity will give me a variety of careers to consider besides the ones I am looking into. The health professions that I am interested in are radiology, athletic trainer, and a registered nurse. The purpose for me to go into a health career profession is to help others, learn about the structure of the human body and how the human body works. I am aware of the fact that it takes more than knowledge in a health profession. Doctors need patience and know how to communicate with their patients. Going to the health career camp will give me knowledge
The career I have chosen is an early, middle years Physical Education and Geography teacher. This career was a perfect fit for me given my four years of work at a summer day camp, as well as my eight years of hockey coaching. Working with children and helping them develop, is not only something I enjoy doing, but is my passion. I simply could not imagine my life any other way.
The book Diversified Health Occupations, on page 50-51, gives information on things you should have to become a medical assistant. For a medical assistant, the type of facility where they will work and the kind of physician they will be determines their duties. An example would be a pediatric assistant. They will work with a pediatrician. Their role is to take the patient’s vital signs and to prepare the patient for the appointment.
Nutrition is important for healthy life. Many people are still hungry around the world even though there is mass production of food. This is because of unhealthy food production. In today’s world we see many obese people because of high intake of high fat and cholesterol containing food. It is important to have a healthy diet/ nutritional intake for individuals to have good foundation for physical and mental health. Now a day’s healthy food is getting more expensive rather than unhealthy food. Poor people are forced to eat unhealthy food, while the rich can afford to eat whatever the please. Food insecurity is caused by individuals not having healthy food for their families due to their low income or political and
In Mexico, around forty five percent of its one hundred and eighteen million people face food shortages or hunger. In south America, nearly ten million Peruvians suffer from hunger; that is nearly one-third of the population. In many countries around the world, it is the rural poor who suffer most. Hunger and disease, is usually in close combination and often precipitated by natural disasters or war, have plagued humankind throughout history. People need nutrition to be strong and to be able to go to school or work, but without any healthy food that cannot happen. Their bodies cannot process the activities or material they are shown due to lack of nutrients that you get from healthy sustenance. therefore, they are not able to get a good paying job or education for later in their future. World hunger is a problem that must be addressed as seen through illness,
“What does malnutrition look like? Most of us think of bloated bellies or skin and bones, but the appearance of a hungry child might surprise you. Internationally hunger often stunts growth. Imagine a 9-year-old who appears to be only 5” (“Feed the Children.” Feed). Almost 1 billion kids worldwide live in poverty and 1 in 4 children around the world suffer from malnutrition that stunts growth (“Feed the Children.” Give). This is a very big problem not only in America but everywhere else, malnutrition is the cause of almost half of child deaths each year around the world (“Feed the Children.” Give). It is close to impossible for a malnourished child to recover from diarrhea or to fight off a small illness because their immune system is just simply too weak (“Feed the Children.”
Through my four years of high school I have achieved many goals, and one goal would have to be the time I got chosen to be Vice President of Health Occupations Students of America at United High School. This achievement brought a positive effect to my family and I. Many might say that applying for this position was a piece of cake, but in reality it was a long process to be where I am right now. Till this day this organization has been lifted and will still continue
I am currently at a two year college to get me started because I was unsure of my major at first. I knew I wanted to be in the health field and be able to help others. I was stuck between Nursing and Physical Therapy. I got to experience both fields through the New Visions program during my senior year of high school; through the program I was able to experience and volunteer at Monroe Community Hospital and Strong Memorial Hospital. I was placed on many different floors including a geriatric PT floor at Monroe Community Hospital and multiple nursing units at both hospitals. I also was involved in animal therapy with one of the volunteers at MCH. I learned so much about the nursing and PT field through this program and the experiences I was
Sixty percent of the world hunger is women. In developing countries, one out of six infants are born with a low birth weight. sixty-six million primary school aged children go to school hungry, most of which are in Africa with an insane twenty- three million children. World hunger is a continuing problem and to put it in perspective, count to ten and a child dies across the world because of
Hunger and malnutrition in Africa has been on the increase, have affected many Africans in different ways since 1900’s. Children and adults both are facing devastating hunger and malnutrition crisis across a south of Africa. Some of the regions that are strongly affected by hunger and malnutrition issues includes Countries like Ethiopia, Kenya and Zambia. Commonness of malnourishment in total populations of Kenya is 28% in Ethiopia 37% and in Zambia 45%. People in these populations are suffering from hunger and malnutrition in large numbers. In some parts of Africa parents have hard time providing nutritious food to their children due to crop failures, sky rocketing food prices and insecurity. According to the Secretary of United States General Kofi Annan mentioned that African leaders are mismanaging their abundant resources. He also stated that under use of their resources abundant resources has become the very source of Africa’s misery. The main reason for hunger and malnutrition of their people is being the lack of resources in Africa on counties in Africa. In some of the countries in Africa hunger and malnutrition have deadly effects on majority of the population. There are lot of deficiency among millions of Africans which includes malnutrition diseases like protein energy deficiency, anemia, and vitamin A deficiency, and which are effecting and killing them especially children.
When individuals experience a sustained dearth of sufficient, safe, and nutritious food, food insecurity exists, and today, this issue is most prevalent in Sub-Saharan Africa. While food insecurity has always existed, the more recent food crisis that occurred in 2007 and 2008 has expanded the problem to affect more and more people on the global stage.
In the short run, there is no choice-aid must be given people are starving. Still, improving the infrastructure for poor people needs to be long-term focus. This long-term approach is necessary because the most significant factor affecting under nutrition of people in impoverished areas of the world is their reliance on outside sources for basic needs. Their dependence makes them constantly vulnerable. Under nutrition is the most common form of malnutrition among the poor in both developing and developed countries. It is also the primary cause of specific nutrient deficiencies that can result in muscle wasting, blindness from xeropthalmia, scurvy, pellagra, beri-beri, anaemia, rickets, goitre, and a host of other problems.
Food is one of the basic needs of a human being to survive. All of us depend on food for having a good health, therefore with the lack of food many people will be starving and malnourished.
Malnutrition keeps on influencing the lives of millions of adolescents and women in South Africa. While a few pointers demonstrate change, a few conditions appear to have declined over the previous decade (Mc Lauren and Thorne, 2009: 6).
