Lucid Dreaming is an important research findings in psychology today because it shows how much your conscious mind is capable of during sleeping. Reasons that support this includes, reducing nightmares, having control over your consciousness, and being able to make sleeping
To figure out the specific applications of lucid dreaming research, Melanie Schädlich from the University of Heidelberg in Germany and Daniel Erlacher from the University of Bern in Switzerland collaborated on an online survey back in 2012, in which 300 frequent lucid dreamers were asked about possible benefits of lucid dreaming as it pertains to their daily lives. The results are as follow: “The most frequent application (81.4%) was having fun, followed by changing a bad dream or nightmare into a pleasant one (63.8%), solving problems (29.9%), getting creative ideas or insights (27.6%) and practicing skills (21.3%) (p. 134). ” For this reason, lucid dreaming could prove to be a useful tool in combating nightmares or fears, and it may even prove a useful tool in therapy further down the road if scientists continue to research it and figure out ways to elicit these
As we lay ourselves down every night to put our bodies to rest, our brains begin doing something extraordinary. It begins piecing together images, creating scenarios, simulating sensory perception, and adding in emotions and fears. They can make us wake up with a smile on our face or in a cold sweat. Dreaming is such a strange and often inexplicable phenomenon, but something we all do just about every night. People have theorized the process and the utility of dreams for centuries. However, much of the accepted knowledge we have a bout dreams today is still only theory. In fact, hardly anything about the dreaming experience is concrete because it is an experience
In the introduction, Stanley explains that the question is “the best question ever” because you can apply it to your every decision for the rest of your life, it’s simple to answer, you will usually know the answer as soon as you ask it, and it clears “the fog of self-deception” (Stanley 11,12). He says it is an uncomfortable question, but it will make every aspect of our lives “foolproof,” because it is a wake-up call that draws us out of self-deception and into God’s will. Then he teaches the importance of the question by asking it in three different ways: past, present, and future. He goes over how the question can help us avoid previous struggles and temptations we’ve had in the past. “Your past experience must be a grid through which you
In this post we will see how to lucid dream tonight easily using few simple techniques. Many programs may try to trick you by offering one key method to induce lucid dream but I urge you understand the fact nothing can make you to lucid dream except your own efforts and strong intention.
When I was doing my research it was a little hard to find good sources that are centered on the science behind dreams. A lot of the information seemed to be pretty old and outdated. That was when I found the dreaming brain by J. Allan Hobson. This author takes a look at the
Lucid Dream When resting my head on the pillow, I look for my nightly escape. To drift deeply into subconscious, under the shelter of a starry cape. Into a world that is open, with options not beyond my reach, where possibilities are endless and the mind’s safety is without breach. Wonder to any place desired, with such great ease and zero bounds. Enjoy the magic surroundings and float about in the clouds.
There are a few different types of purposes and experiences involved with lucid dreaming. Aside from studying, people can lucid dream to practice presentations, get rid of nightmares, face fears of conflict by mapping out the situation before hand, or just to experience things otherwise not possible in the real world.
In (Spoormaker, V.I. et al., 2003), it was their primary goal to investigate the effects of lucid dreaming on nightmares. Therefore, their hypotheses states that lucid dreaming would decrease nightmare frequency along with their other variables, trait/state anxiety, and improve quality of the participants sleep. In this experiment it was found at the 2-month follow up that nightmare frequency had indeed decreased, while quality of sleep had increased only slightly. As for state and trait anxiety, there were no changes. Within this study lucid dreaming seemed to be effective in reducing nightmares however, how effective it was is not clear since it did not change the other variables quite as significantly. Interestingly, the effect of lucid dreaming as a treatment for nightmares was conducted once more three years later by
In most cases, when we dream, we are not aware that we are dreaming. We simply get lost in the interactions with dream sceneries and dream characters. In a lucid dream, however, the dreamers know that they are dreaming. They are aware that they are inside a dream and that their physical body is sleeping on their bed. I can vividly recall my first lucid dream.
I have always been interested in learning and interpreting dreams every since I was in high school. Out of everything I learned about dreams over the years, the one that really resonated with me the most was that dreaming is our way of dealing with problems from our waking state. For that reason, I chose an article called Relation of Dreams To Waking Concerns by Rosalind Cartwright, Mehmet Y. Agargun, Jennifer Kirkby, and Julie Kabat Friedman. It captured my interest because it goes into depth about how your waking concerns effects your dreaming state. It also goes into detail about Slow Wave Sleep (SWS) and Rapid Eye Movement (REM) and what they have to do with dreaming.
When I woke up, questions swirled through my mind about the unbelievable dream I had last night. With the help from Google, I learned that what had happened was a phenomenon called lucid dreaming.
