Have you ever thought to yourself “can I really do that” well you should be more of a dreamer. By being a dreamer it means to think differently and have a good imagination. By being a realist it means that you stick to realistic things. The books I will use are the Outsiders By S.E. Hinton, Mr. Ferris and His Wheel by Kathryn Gibbs, and Dream Big but Not Too Big. Being a dreamer is more important than being a realist because you can have a good imagination, leading to success, and a counterclaim about being a realist. First, you can imagine more when you are a dreamer. According to the text The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton Ponyboy is a huge dreamer and is always imaginative. He imagines to take his mind off of the bad things in the world like …show more content…
In the text Mr. Ferris and His Wheel by Kathryn Gibbs, the U.S. was having trouble coming up with an idea of the world's fair. So he has an idea of a spinning wheel and everyone thought it was a bad idea but it ended up to work. It ended up being a huge success. Success can also be mentally like in Mr. Ferris and His Wheel people kept on booing him and he just kept on dreaming and even when people were saying it was a stupid idea he still kept going and made the Ferris wheel. In The Outsiders also Pony had success of bringing his parents back of bringing his parents back to life because he misses them so much and when he dreams and brings them back to life and he enjoys it. Also in Mr. Ferris and His Wheel, He runs into some money problems because the fair comment won’t help him and he has to dream up some way on how to get some money. So he gets some investors to give him some money and he has to get all of the worker supplies and it ended up being a huge success. Lastly, a counterclaim against being a realist. Thinking big as a little kid and when your dreams don’t come true, you get crushed. We also get disappointed when are dreams don’t come true. According to an article Dream big, but not too big, “Most of us had dreams of being a Nobel prize winner or a professional athlete but most of them are realized when we grow up. We get a better touch with our skills and limitations. We get disappointed when our dreams
Now put foundations under them…” this qoute can mean a million things but the meaning I get reading it, is if you have big goals for yourself why cut yourself short of them, dream big work hard and you would be amazed at the foundations of life you can create. This qoute can mean little goals or big goals. My life right know actually relates to this qoute, always being told i was to small not big enough, as a kid i would always dream of playing major league baseball, playing divison one college baseball and recieving a scholarship which less than 5% of kids in the country yet. I can personaly say dream big and big things can happen if you put your mind to it.
I believe the Outsiders are representation sped up by the greasers like Ponyboy, Dally, Soda, and the others. They are extracted from others and are people that don’t fit in with the crowd. The factor is they are poor and are unnoticed unless they make trouble. These are boys who don’t care they smoke and act like a family. Unlike the other gangs this has no leader and have individual leaders. Like for these examples to use Outsider it needs to be defined. Outsider or an Outsider is a man or woman or group whom doesn’t fit with the rest of the crowd and ends up sticking out like a ball in a haystack it is extractable but easier than the needle. There are many ways to describe this like how in a crowd of people the Socials could spot Ponyboy
“Be who makes the impossible possible,” my grandmother loves to say. In life dreaming big is the idealistic state of mind. Dreaming big is what gives one hope to becoming who they aspire to be and reach their goals.
“I never dreamed about success, I worked for it.” Estee Lauder. This quote really sums up the reason we shouldn’t dream because dreams make us believe in things that won’t ever happen unless a person actually goes out tries to accomplish what they want to do in life. In addition sometimes when people try to accomplish their dreams it leads to terrible outcomes such as the Great Leap Forward, The 5 Year Plans, and the Holocaust as some examples. Also, it results in many people overestimate what they can do which leads to terrible outcomes. This all shows often when people try to dream it often leads to outcomes that very undesirable.
In the book, The Outsiders by S.E Hinton, the biggest influences in shaping Ponyboy’s identity are creativity, how he’s different from the rest of the gang, and his hair. The first example of how creativity and his difference with the rest of the gang is, when Ponyboy walks home alone home from the movie in the first chapter because he “likes to watch movies undisturbed so I can get into them and live them with actors. … I’m different that way” (Hinton 2). Ponyboy wanted to go to the movie alone so he can “get into them and live with actors.” This shows creativity because being able to get into books and dream is being creative. He wants to live and be with the actors and watching movies and reading books which is a good way to be able to get into another
“Things are rough all over.” (Hinton 35) Ponyboy Curtis says this in the book The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. An outsider is someone who is different or doesn’t fit in in a certain way, which is why Hinton never emphasizes who the outsiders are; readers can interpret this book and the outsiders in their own way because Hinton proves that everyone is an outsider in their own manner. While it can be argued that every character is an outsider, the main outsiders in this book are Ponyboy Curtis, Johnny Cade, and Cherry Valance.
Appearances falsely define reality in the Outsiders because when people judge others based on what they see then you are being blocked from the truth and you are getting false information. Firstly, in the book Ponyboy describes Dally as a criminal because he has done violent actions during his life. Ponyboy doesn’t know everything about Dally and he could be a respectable person. Consequently, when we judge people we get the erroneous idea of them, so Dally could have had a brutal life.
In the book “The Outsiders” the main character ponyboy goes through many challenges. This had made his identity slowly change and this puts him in to bad situations and makes him do things he wouldn’t usually do.
All in all, do not give up dream before we put our effort in it since nurture is more important than nature.
In the novel, The Outsiders, Ponyboy expresses his feelings in a very poetic way. By doing this, Ponyboy is able to show the reader his true identity: an identity that completely contradicts the stereotype of what society deems to be a greaser.
An outsider is defined as “a person who does not belong to a particular group.” In the book, The Outsiders, many of the characters can be described as being an outcast from the social society. Ponyboy, Johnny, and Cherry are outsiders in this novel because none of them really fit into the groups that they’re “supposed” to be in.
Many people in our world today can relate their past experiences to some kind of literature . For example i can relate to many, but one that I can really relate to is the book the Outsiders. I can relate to many reasons and visions that the greasers went through. I had friends that were some what crazy in there own ways that kinda related to some of the characters in the book. Many of my old friends did the things that they did in the book.
Most of the time, people with big dreams are not satisfied with themselves because they are not living the life they wanted to. For example, most artists in restaurants tend to start small. They start on streets, get gigs at restaurants and wait their entire lives to get signed by a record label; however, they usually never get any farther than performing for a small crowd on the weekends which will cause disappointment among themselves.
They say that fear kills more dreams than failure ever does. In my case, yes, this is true. But with time and effort, my fear of never being enough has become just a minor setback and not my whole life. Doing my best for myself and making myself happy is what my life will soon consist
Everyone goes through a tough time on whether dreaming big or being realistic. I believe that being realistic is better because you set goals and accomplish them without being disappointed in yourself.
