Attributes in essentials areas of education are very important for an outstanding teacher. An outstanding teacher is the master of content knowledge. Every outstanding teacher has the following qualities in order to success in teaching: professionalism, flexibility, availability, concern, respect and mastery of content knowledge. These qualities are needed to student success and an out standing teacher constantly works to develop and improve these skills through their career. For positive learning and relationship, my professionalism provides reliable and safe environment for student. A fellow educator would hear these answers as examples of the teacher’s ability to engage students in every lesson, her desire for all students to succeed, and her competence in subject matter. Although an outstanding educator exudes many other characteristics, these three qualities are essential for one to be considered an outstanding, high-quality teacher.
What is an effective teacher? Is it a teacher who is caring, compassionate, warming, and personable? Or is it a teacher who is good at planning, works well with other teachers/administrators, and self-disciplined? Many people would say that these qualities and characteristics would make an ideal teacher, and they would be correct. But these qualities alone are not enough to be considered an effective teacher.
I believe there are many skills and attributes that are necessary to an outstanding teacher; one’s ability to keep students engaged, the desire to see all students achieve, and knowledge of the content taught are attributes of an outstanding educator.
In the book, Ten Traits of Highly Effective Principals: From good to Great Performance, McEwan discusses the facilitator in chapter 4 (2003). She describes the facilitator as a leader with abilities to build strong relationships with parents, teachers, and students. One principal in the book, Bill, thought the students would learn more if their teachers are understanding, caring, and genuine as opposed with students who were taught by teachers that were not. This idea was tested and their findings were placed in a book entitled, Kids Don’t Learn From People They Don’t Like (Aspey & Roebuck, 1977). The results of the study described the book perfectly.
There are several important qualities that any outstanding educator or teacher should have. Any educator in any situation should gain the respect of the students by first giving their students respect. It is an endless cycle and it would make life easy. The teacher should also have a great rapporter with the students. It lets them know that the teachers does care about them and that is invaluable, children do pick on emotions very quickly.
Just because someone is a great nurse, does not mean they are a great nursing educator. I believe the greatest qualities of an outstanding educator are passion, patience, flexibility, and the willingness for personal and professional growth.
To be an outstanding educator you need to possess many important qualities. The qualities I believe are the most important are flexibility, creativity, and passion. The teachers I remember and relate to the most have those qualities. They are the areas that I believe I have strength in and the areas that will benefit my future students.
One of the utmost important traits that fabricate up an outstanding teacher would be passion. I believe passion is the mere momentous act of being a great teacher for the reason that it shows one's love for their career. Passion also shows that the person is willing to devote themselves to the students and their learning. Another essential factor of being a magnificent teacher would be having patience, patience plays a vast role in how the teacher will run the classroom and how the class will perceive the teacher. The skills and attributes I believe that are necessary to be an outstanding teaching are first, to be a lifelong learner. An outstanding teacher needs time to develop the skills and have the opportunities for growth. They must be willing to continually learn and hone their craft. With that being said another skill is being able to learn from your mistakes. We all make them and they can allow us the opportunity for growth. An outstanding teacher needs to be creative, when what was planned is not working then creativity needs to be there to try a new approach. They must be prepared for each day, however, be flexible to adapt as the lesson or interaction with the students.
While there are many ways to be an outstanding teacher, every high-quality teacher should, in my opinion, have these skills and dispositions:
I believe an exemplary teacher is also one who truly cares about their students, academically and personally, and builds relationships with their students so they can be the best resource possible for their students to succeed. Building and maintaining relationships with students can make teaching more effective because when you earn the students’ trust, they are more likely to engage in class and come to you for help. Teachers should also know how to apply classroom management strategies in their classroom to make teaching time as effective as possible. Classroom management is using techniques that maintain a healthy, productive learning environment, relatively free of behavior problems (Woolfolk, 2014).
As an effective teacher I believe that in order to lead a classroom you must first have a deep understanding and be willing to collaborate experiences that will promote the learning inside of your classroom. I believe that the characteristics first begin with being organized and prepared, and having an in depth understanding of each subject
As a teacher, it is always beneficial to reflect over a day’s work, students’ abilities to grasp material, and what improvements could be made. I rated myself basic in 4a for now. Too much was going on at the time of this self-assessment. I have never used the same lesson plans from year to year. However, in times past, I spent at least 30 minutes every evening trying to figure out if my lessons worked, needed improvement, or should have been restructured and retaught. I would look for my weaknesses, and plan to eradicate them during the reteaching process. My strengths were noticed, and characterized to be used again. So, right now I’m basic in component 4a for failing to reflect on teaching more thoroughly.
Teaching is a difficult occupation. Teachers play an important part in training children, teenagers… So, a good teacher must have some special qualities. They are: knowledge, creation, confidence, empathy, sense of humor and passion.
A list of characteristics should be included in some of the instruments used in the identification process. The reason that this should occur is to be more consistent with the identification process thus allowing it to be more valid. In order to become valid, it is “can be documented to be measuring what it claims to measure” (Callahan et al 89). If there are no characteristics that a teacher is guided by it becomes much more biased and less objective. Also, you have a wide range of teachers from novice to veteran that are analyzing these students and in order to help out some of the new teachers it would give them a guide as to what they are looking for in the student identification process. On the other end, a veteran teacher sometimes because complacent and does not necessarily see everything that could be indicators of a gifted student, again allowing the teacher have a guide. Another reason, is from a training standpoint the teachers should be trained in looking at specific traits that are “typical” of a gifted student. This makes it easier for the district to train by using the characteristic checklist as a guide for identifying gifted students. In many of the readings and definitions that have been discussed throughout the class so far it is that part of a definition of defining gifted is “teacher training requirements” (Clarenbach & Eckert 32).
