Over the past several years, it has not been uncommon to hear about bullying. Unfortunately, bullying is something that has affected the lives of millions of people around the world. Some of those people have had resolve from the bullying, and many people have not been able to reach that resolve and the effects have been emotionally scarring. According to Dictionary.com, “bullying is a blustering, quarrelsome, overbearing person who habitually badgers and intimidates smaller or weaker people”. Based on the definition alone, there might be a time where any individual could reflect back to when they were in school and they were witness to or victim of a bully. Bullying is acknowledged a behavioral disorder, which has unfortunately affected so many people. Although the more common type of bullying is school bullying, which is categorized as school violence, there is also cyberbullying. Cyberbullying is as the word defines a type of bullying that takes place over the Internet. The Internet is not what it once was, a world where people just e-mailed one another or searched for research material. The Internet harbors constant cyberbullying, and it takes place over various kinds of websites, social media, chat rooms, so on and so forth. Bullying behavior doesn’t just remarkably switch towards a nice personality once a person gets on the Internet. Cyberbullying is an important concern that has been drawing more and more attention, however, the focus of this paper will be directed on school bullying. One of the most infamous bullying events in history were the shootings at Columbine High School on April 20, 1999. Two students, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold conducted what would be known as the worst high school massacre in U.S. history. They killed 12 students and 1 teacher, and injured a total of 27 students. They were both outcasts and felt deep resentment towards other students, especially the jocks. At one point during the shooting, Eric and Dylan were in the library, which appears to be the location of most of the murders, and they loudly mentioned “Everyone with white hats, stand up!
