In these three stories there were people who did risks for the sake of success and reaching their goals for themselves and others. For example, when Buck was very hungry he was willing enough to do risks so he can eat the rabbit that he found. When Farah Amadi known the risks of climbing up a mountain with her prosthetic leg she did not give up. Annie Johnson knew the risks of starting a business but that did not stop her from starting one. However, all these people shared an ability to try to overcome the risks they faced in their journey to accomplish their goals. Buck The book called Call of the Wild by Jack London was about a dog called Buck who found himself in the wild and in chapter three the goal was to catch a rabbit. When a dog called Buck and his sled team were getting hungry they spotted a rabbit in the snow so Buck and his team was chasing it. When Buck was trying to get the rabbit he quickly ran into risks. When he was chasing the rabbit the weather was super cold and windy. Since the other dogs were hungry if the rabbit was caught then all the dogs will fight for the rabbit. When a girl and her mother were trying to escape a war torn country risks were coming. When the family reached the gate they were quickly pushed off by guards with clubs. When someone told the family a way to escape the country there were risks and they were running into smugglers , the daughter had a prosthetic leg, and the fact that the mother had asthma and anxiety. To overcome those risks the family had to stop every while but for the daughter there seem to be no problem at all. When they kept doing this they finally accomplished their goal of crossing the
Eventually, in life, you will be put in situations where you have the option to take a risk. A risk could be small or big; an example of a risk could be making a career change or even testing out a new restaurant. Either way, big or small, a risk could affect your life and how you live it. While studying the texts “Jinxy Jenkins and Lucky Lou” by Mike Bidinger and “The Difficult Path" by Grace Lin. I identified a recurring theme between the two; the character(s) from each text took a risk.
The Call of the Wild is a book written by Jack London it is about a powerful dog named buck that is half St. Bernard and half sheepdog that lives in Santa Clara Valley with his owner Judge Miller and his sons. He lives a comfortable life and he is used to going hunting with the judges sons. That ends when men discovered gold in the klondike region of Canada and a lot of people want strong dogs to pull sleds. He is kidnapped by a gardener and sold off to dog traders that teach him how to obey them by whacking him with a club. After that they finally ship him to the Klondike.
A theme in the book, “Call of the Wild” by Jack London, is that through trials and challenges, one can show determination and keep pressing forward. Buck never gave up through all the challenges he went through. Even when he was beaten and whipped by men, he didn’t give up. He also faced starvation, extremely cold climates, wild dogs, and learned to adapt to his challenges. Buck was stolen from his home then beaten by the man in the red sweater.
First, “And no one, not even the oldest in the village, can say for certain whether I’ll get to the end”(Salak 1). Second,“He says he will pray for me” (Salak 1.) The journey was very difficult and nearly impossible. If she completes it she’ll leave a legacy and become an inspiration. Her journey was mental and physical because she had to endure difficult conditions.
“Kill or be killed, eat or be eaten, was the law…”, the compelling adventure novel, The Call of the Wild, written by Jack London truly does follow that rule. A beautifully built St. Bernard and Scotch Shepherd mix named Buck is stolen and transported to the primitive Northland environment. There he becomes a sled dog, frequently switched between owners and grouped with other canines. Throughout the story Buck finds himself constantly competing to be the alpha, and struggling for mastery.
Buck is the main character of this novel. The other animals in the novel are Buck, Curly, Spitz, Dave, Billee, Joe, Sol-leks, Dolly, Pike, Dub, Skeet, and Nig. Buck’s mother was a Scotch Sheppard, and his father was a huge Saint Bernard. Buck was a civilized dog, but answers the call of the wild and becomes one with the wild. Curly was Buck’s companion on the boat trip to the North. Curly is described in the novel as a “good-natured Newfoundland.” Curly does not survive long; however, Buck learns a gruesome lesson when he sees how easily Curly was murdered while trying to be friendly with Spitz. Spitz was the dog that assassinated Curly and becomes Buck’s most bitter enemy. He was terminated later in the novel by Buck in a dog brawl. Buck’s victory entitled him to take over the lead of the dogs that belonged to Spitz. The dog fight illustrated to me Buck’s ability to survive even among the most primitive elements. Dave, Billee, Joe, Sol-leks, Dolly, Pike, and Dub are the other dogs that serve on the dogsled team with Buck. Finally, Skeet and Nig were two of John Thornton’s dogs that he owned before he rescued and adopts
Every day Buck has another obstacle to face in order to stay alive. In The Call of The Wild, Jack London uses the character, Buck, to illustrate the theme of survival. Buck was forced to do something he knew nothing about, being a sled dog. Shortly after he was taken from his home he was bought and forced to be a sled dog, trying to learn from the other dogs in the team. He eventually gets the hang of it and as his strength increases he becomes one of the best on the team.
In many ways, adversity is the leading factor for change. People, animals, and things often alter their shape or ideas to fit with their surroundings. Usually, those surroundings include one driving factor that forces the change: struggles or difficulty. So that poses the question, in what way do people deal with adversity? The book I selected to read during this semester is the literary classic The Call of the Wild, a 1903 novel by award-winning author Jack London. I chose to read this story because it is a classic novel and the heroic tone of the novel appealed to me. The novel tells of an initially pampered dog, Buck, and the progression of his tendency to revert to the inner instincts of fierce violence and extreme competition instilled in him. In the process, Buck goes through several different masters before finally landing with the right one. The Call of the Wild is made interesting by the literary devices used in the novel, the simple and robust tone used by London, and the process that the protagonist Buck undergoes in reverting back to his

The Call of the Wild, on the surface, is a story about Buck, a four- year old dog that is part Shepherd and part St. Bernard. More importantly, it is a naturalistic tale about the survival of the fittest in nature. Throughout the novel, Buck proves that he is fit and can endure the law of the club, the law of the fang, and the laws of nature.

Many people take risks every day. Some risks are small, such as traveling somewhere or trying new food. Other risks are much bigger, such as moving somewhere or applying for a job. Whether the other risk is big or the other is small, all risks have something in common. Many people can’t always be sure how their risk will turn out.
