“What does not kill you can only make you stronger” has become the anthem for most coaches and athletes. High school and college sports has became the most interesting athletic age to watch. Due to the increase in demand and pressure on adolescent athletes, the injury rate has increased extremely. There has been an increase in high school athletes and many of these athletes obtain some type of injury every year. This paper will express the specific overworked injuries that high school athletes face. Also, why injuries happen and the different treatments and prevention methods will be discussed for the diagnosis. Many people believe that success is acquired by any means possible, only problem
In the U.S there are thirty million or more children/teens that participate in sports. Out of the 30 million children/teens that participate in sports, 3.5 million of those children/teens get injured each year.
More than 35 million kids and teens play sports in the United States. And because there are only so many scholarships and sports team positions open (pages 13-15), many kids will be unable to "go pro". This causes kids to work harder and specialize in one sport (page 14) and can cause overuse injuries (page 13). Also, because there are only so many scholarships and positions open, many kids are forced to deal with rejection on a regular basis. Even though they may be an amazing player, there are just too many kids and too much competition. The rejection wouldn't be as big of a deal if the kids were playing for fun, as they used to (page 13), but now, kids are just playing to make it to the college level and gain the fame. Although they are
According to yard house from “ A comparison of high school sport injury surveillance data reporting by certified athletic trainer and coaches”, “High school athletes sustain more than 1.4 million injuries annually”. Many of these injuries are caused because public high school do not provide enough professional care for athletes. Some of the reasons that athletes are not provided with right care is because of insurance, proper equipment and educated professionals to treat injuries.
Youth sports are a regular part of any parent's life, over time, the more talented kids emerge and are picked for travel teams or special training. Travel teams usually come with year long commitments forcing children to quit their other sports. Although when you think of a sport related injury you usually think of kids colliding, or falling and banging their head, although, more than 50% of sport related injuries are overuse injuries. Most overuse injuries occur when a young athlete focuses on one sport, playing it year round. This puts stress on the same muscle all year, instead of just for one season. An athlete that plays multiple sports exercises multiple muscles, giving other muscles a break. Without giving other muscles a break, the one muscle becomes tired and weak, and eventually snaps. Youth sports are a highlight of childhood, but the risk of injury has rapidly increased due to
Margaret Hodges, author of More young athletes are getting major-league injuries, talks about how teens involved in sports are likely to get injuries. The author uses two high school students as examples. Kathryn W., a high school hurdler, won the state championship for the 300 meter hurdles while she had a torn tendon in her hip and Jeffrey S., a high school pitcher, fractured his elbow while pitching. Both teens developed overuse injuries- injuries caused by stress due to repeated motions. Because of hopes for scholarships, teens focus on one sport causing them to replicate the same movements over and over again increasing overuse injuries. These injuries can get worse leading to surgery, although rest can prevent it. Finally, because of
Analysing the effects, recovery and prevention assist in determining the extent of what the injury does to individuals participating in the popular well-known sport.
Throughout my junior and senior years of high school I was a part of the Student Athletic Training Team in the Sports Medicine Department of Wakefield High School. To help better understand the injuries that the team encountered in the field, I enrolled in the Sports Medicine classes that were offered by the school. The classes were taught by the head athletic trainer for the school who believed in hands-on learning, especially for his student trainers. During the duration of the course and my time as a member of the team, I saw numerous different types of injuries; but there were three that occurred most often: an ankle sprain, a muscle strain, and a rotator cuff tear.
Injuries are a crucial issue throughout the sports world and affect most players futures. Athletes are concerned of getting severely hurt or having their lives be at risk. Many players have the chance to prevent their injuries, but yet they never do. Families must discuss with the athlete about whether it is safe and enforce the rules to stop injuries such as concussions. More protection could also be worn to prevent broken bones or worse and also stretching to strengthen muscles. Injuries have increased a tremendous amount throughout the years because many players have stopped wearing the correct amount of protection and taking care of themselves.
Injuries play a big role in an athlete's career and his or her overall health, although minor injuries are often nothing to worry about they can lead to something serious especially if the injury is repeatedly being aggravated. scrapes, cuts, bruises, and broken bones are all things to worry about. When a player is injured he or she is losing play time and money and why risk this when there is small but giant steps that can be taken to prevent injuries. But brain injuries are something much more serious even if the player says not to worry because something worse than losing playtime is losing your life. Albert C. hergenroeder has written an article on preventing sports injuries, he says that there are 3 million sports injuries among kids around
Injuries impact the school life, profession, and the approach to society of a player. It slows down the natural ability of one to obtain and accomplish their aspirations in life, such as academics achievements or relationship goals (Dr. Echlin, 2014). Physicality and toughness are important factors in sports, especially in hockey. In a sport that is nearing a century old, who dare prohibit the originality of it? But with prolific past injuries on players caused by malicious hits, such as Todd Bertuzzi’s infamous check on Steve Moore in ’04 or superstar Sidney Crosby’s year-long concussion in ’10-11, speculation has started to gather regarding the complete exertion of violence in the NHL. With over 50% of players getting injured each year and
The main research of this paper is Sports injuries. Sport injuries are very common in the modern world and it has severe effects in the life of athletes. Injuries related to sport can lead to loss of life, body parts or career depending on the severity of the accident. Sport injuries have several negative impacts on the physical, mental, social ability of athletes. To accomplish the paper appropriately some real-life examples have been included in this research, for illustration. For better understanding of the rise of the sports related injuries, a graph has been mentioned that shows the difference between the numbers of sports injuries recently compared to 2004. Finally the research paper has been concluded by proving that
Many people believe that concussions are just a head injury that causes headaches, but it’s more than that, so much more than that! In my recent research over Concussions, more importantly, concussions due to sports related occurrences, and the side effects.
There is news all over the sports world about athletes getting injured with hairline fractures, torn ACLs, and most often, concussions. Little do the spectators know that those injuries to the head put those victims at a greater risk for something far worse later in their lifetime. Diseases like ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) and CTEs (chronic traumatic encephalopathy) can be caused to occur earlier in an athlete’s life rather than a non athlete due to these blows to the head they suffer on a weekly basis.
Do you enjoy getting tackled over and over again? So then why would you let your kid get tackled over and over again? There are many benefits to sports but like all things, there have to be cons. There have been countless deaths, injuries and brain damage in football.
