Designing and using sustainable products is the important topic which all human should seriously consider about. The technological development in recent decades significantly improved the average standard of living world widely while that destroyed natural environments on the earth. The speaker John P. O’Grady in TED Talk pointed out that how unsustainable products have terribly contributed to the devastation of the environment. For instance, Mr. O’Grady showed the audience that the study of marine pollution and metaphorically expressed the situation as the toilet which has not been flushed for a long time. Besides that, there are many other problems causing negative impacts. These environmental destructions harm not only nature but also the
There are several obstacles for manufacturers attempting to employ changes in their processes for more sustainable practices. One problem that manufacturers will run into is the lack of direction. Knowing that change is needed is the easy part of reaching sustainability. Knowing what changes to make is a much more complicated challenge. The idea of sustainability is discussed often, yet broad scope ideas are traded without specific details and applications. Team B Consultants Inc. (TBCI), is the

It cannot be denied that, in at least some areas, the invention and progression of technology has benefitted the human race. With the growing industrialization of the world in the last centuries the lives of many people have been made easier. But, this growth of technology is not without its consequences and people are not without their concerns. While industrialization has had its benefits, the environmental cost of this progress is immense, and the impact it has on nature can be hard to swallow. It may seem like talk of the environment is something to be left to scientists or activists specializing in that particular field, but they are
In conversations globally the environment is a hot topic. Issues with the ozone layer, depleting natural resources, and health risks associated with emissions and changes in climate coupled with its resulting natural disasters; have pushed conservation issues into the spotlight. The environmental issues presented today are not the result of one country, one type, or one-industry actions but a communal failure of a mixture of several. With that said many countries and industries are going through policy changes to combat environmental issues that will hopefully benefit the environment, the consumer, and industries.
This chapter was quite an eye opener. It begins describing our early attempts to make industry less destructive. In the past, industry was so destructive regulations had to be put in place to avoid, “immediate sickness and death.” We certainly have come a long way. Works like Silent Spring by Rachel Carson have catalyzed the formation of many conservation societies and resulted in the passing of many environmental regulation laws. However the authors go on to describe how our efforts are thus far not sufficient. They compare recycling to aspirin, insinuating it is only good enough to ease a post-consumption hangover rather than eliminating the waste problem from the root. Not only that but they claim that because none of our products are actually
Companies constantly face the ethical problem of destroying the environment to create a product. There is a dilemma between creating a good people want, and preserving the environment. I believe there must be a balance between serving the present and the future. Regulations must be more strict in unnecessary destruction, but also understanding that some processes are needed for the well-being of present society. Considering the future and understanding that we are digging a deeper hole for humanity is required, but completely rejecting this change is
In the awakening of the Industrial Revolution around the 1800s, technology, and science rapidly advanced, leaving the human race unable to resist the manufacturing age that aggressively expanded in the 21st century. With all these changes, the launch of the industrial era witnessed a revolutionary transition from the small-scale and fewer pollutant factories to the full-scale industries that became mass producers and manufacture units through the centuries. However, the lack of policies to control pollution, the unplanned industrial growth, and the industries’ inefficiency to dispose of the waste are a couple of examples that have lead– particularly the U.S., to face major environmental disasters due to the excessive and continuous industrial pollution that arose as a result of industrialization. In response to these changes, it is necessary that our nation as a world power invest in better technology for the disposal of waste and recycling since at this point technological regression is somewhat unreal. In addition, similarly to what Rachel Carson and Jared Diamond implicitly advocated in their essays, we must aim to push policies into place to prevent the misuse of land, promote organic methods for production, and encourage the school system to invest in environmental activities to encourage the millennial generation in every corner of the world to adopt a green mindset.
Over the last few decades, the demand for products has skyrocketed. As people become wealthier, their desire for a better lifestyle increases. The more a society advances, the more its individuals require. Recent factors such as television and advertising have further influenced people to make unnecessary, competitive, and conspicuous purchases. As a result, the new norm of excessive consumerism has been created. This harmful act of cranking out new products is taking a massive toll on the environment as our natural resources begin to dwindle and the excess waste from this mass production begins to litter the Earth and inflict harm on ecosystems. Mass consumerism is harmful to the natural environment as it produces excess waste, contributes directly to climate change, and takes a large toll on natural resources.
If sustainability is looked up in a dictionary there are multiple definitions of this word. It is hard to interpret what exactly a person means when they use the word “sustainability.” Being sustained has different variations of meaning. Someone who is below the poverty line might think that having one meal a day is substantial but someone above middle class could view being substantial as having a minimum of three meals a day with plenty of leftovers. The proliferation of the term “sustainability” is not good. Sustainability is a subjective word. People with different opinions interpret sustainability differently. In the article “Sustainability has gone wild and righteous” George Will explains that fundamentalism is similar to sustainability.
In modern western society, ‘bigger is always better’. We consume in excess with little regard of the environment. “We buy things we don’t need with money we don’t have to impress people we don't like.” (Milchan & Fincher, 1999). This has become the motto of modern American society. We are convinced we need a lot of what we consume, when really these things aren’t a necessity. If each American took some time and really evaluated what their actual needs were and scaled their wants back, we could really impact the global ecosystem immensely; take for instance infomercials, laughable exaggerations of “struggles” in modern society. Having trouble winding up your water hose? Buy another hose that is a slightly different shape. American attitudes will not change unless we stop the feeding frenzy that is hyper-consumerism and start focusing on what we can do to make our world better.
L.G, Samsung and Panasonic are global electronic companies largely known for their innovative, technologically advanced products. These companies are involved in the production of home entertainment appliances, mobile communication devices and home appliances such as washing machines and fridges. They operate on a global scale and as a result, they have access to a several ranges of markets. Due to their advancements in the business world, they have a wider corporate responsibility. Moreover, with the increasing environmental issues affecting humanity and the nature of their product, these companies have an obligation to the communities they affect, in ensuring that the negative impacts accrued to the production of their commodities are either eliminated or mitigated. The basis behind this comparison report is to identify the strides each of these companies have taken and their future plans in terms of sustainability.
The manufacturers fail to understand what sustainable manufacturing is all about. The manufacturers do not realize that lack of knowledge on sustainable manufacturing is a loss to them. At present, there are still not much accessible resources for the manufacturers to refer to broaden their mind on issues concerning sustainable manufacturing. Currently, since not many are practicing sustainable practices, until it becomes something in common the manufacturer will still find it as a difficult process to be followed. Furthermore, some manufacturers are still lacking in awareness regarding the current market trend which demands the manufacturing industry to focus on sustainable manufacturing instead of the traditional
One of the most heavily discussed topics, in this last decade, is the environmental decay of our planet. Diverse concepts have materialized in order to find solutions for the problem. Ecology and sustainable growth have been confirmed to be the main solutions currently. Innovations for sustainable growth include: creation of hybrid cars, recycling and minor discharge of carbon dioxide in factories among others (Christ 23). Environmental awareness was also introduced to the world of fashion, unfortunately, it wasn’t very successful; lately there has been a change of situation and that is what we are going to attempt to understand.
There are concerns over the cleaning products we use in our homes, many of these products we use contain harsh chemicals that can damage, ultimately in addition hurt our environment. Fortunately there are many companies that are taking note of this, specially taking the concerns from people in our communities to create products that are more “earth friendly”. Another topic that should be included when writing about sustainable cleaning products is biodegradability in the materials we use, as well as the packaging. This is important as not only harsh chemicals harm our environment with their toxic waste, in addition to we also end up producing pollution as a result of using packaging that is not biodegradable.
In such apprehensive condition, our firm is experiencing a serious issue being an environmental group is emphasizing non biodegradable materials of SafePack. There is an increased emphasis on sustainability of environment. The sustainability of environmental is completely associated with making better decision and performing corrective actions that are favorable in sustaining the nature of world, with particular emphasis on preserving the environment’s capability for the life of humans. Presently, it’s a significant topic, as it’s comprehended by businesses and individuals and has inclusive impact on the environment. The sustainability of environment is intimately associated with effective decision making with major objective
