The PEACE Domestic Violence Agency program was founded to assist in decreasing the incidents of domestic violence in Ohio by 25%. Domestic violence toward women continues to increase on a national level and continues to plague the citizens of Ohio. The victims are generally black females from low-income backgrounds. The 2014 report from the Ohio Department of Public Safety has reported similar trends. The report also identified the cities of Cleveland, Columbus, and Cincinnati as having increased incidents of domestic violence per 100,000 citizens. Consequently, these cities were chosen as target areas for this grant request. In addition, the report reflected that in Ohio, the victims were usually Black females from low socioeconomic …show more content…
In addition, we have received generous financial aid and in-kind support from local businesses, individuals, and community resources.
In order to reach our target communities, we will
a. Develop workshops to help raise domestic violence awareness
b. Share information about our organization by staffing a booth at community events
c. Collaborate with other businesses and foundations in Ohio to connect and grow our organization
In addition, our target population will be identified by:
Gender: Black women of all ages.
Location: In the central areas of Ohio
Fundraising will also play an important part in our potential alternative funding, helping our program thrive and grow. We will solicit donations from businesses throughout the rural cities in the state of Ohio. Fundraising for a young NGO presents several challenges you should be aware of in order to move your first steps towards a future of success.
First of all, you have to understand that without a track record of projects successfully implemented and budget correctly administered, it is difficult to gain the trust of international agencies and to secure large funding for projects. Rather than feeling frustrated, you should consider this time as a very exciting period because you are yet to demonstrate what you can do and, as such, you should
Domestic violence is a universal problem that can affect an individual of any age, gender, race, education level, social class, or culture. This type of violence is considered to be one of the most widespread public health crises in the United States (Black et al., 2011). The purpose of this essay is to create a plan for a program that addresses domestic violence-related crime in West Virginia. To begin, significant information in relation to domestic violence will be provided. This will be followed by the program plan, which will include seven steps: an analysis of the problem, identification of goals and objectives, development of a program design, development of an action plan, development of a plan to monitor program effectiveness,
Domestic abuse in the United States is a large-scale and complex social and health problem. The home is the most violent setting in America today (Lay, 1994). Sadly enough, the majority of people who are murdered are not likely killed by a stranger during a hold-up or similar crime but are killed by someone they know. Not surprisingly, the Center for Disease Control and prevention has identified interpersonal violence as a major public health problem (Velson-Friedrich, 1994). Current estimates suggest that three to four million women are the victims of physical abuse by their intimate partners (Harris & Cook, 1994). According to the FBI, some form of domestic violence occurs in half of the homes in the United States at least once a
Domestic violence occurs in epidemic proportions, impacting an estimated 6.2 million American women every year, and causing more
The PEACE Domestic Violence agency’s mission is to “reduce victim trauma, empower survivors, and promote recovery through direct services” (University of Phoenix, 2012, para. 9). Also, according to University of Phoenix Appendix B (2012),PEACE also strives to reducing the occurrence of sexual assault and domestic violence by educating the abused and the community and proposing ways to fight against social norms and beliefs. It will reside in the city of Portland, a large metropolitan city, that has been experiencing a rise in reports of not only domestic, spousal, and child abuse, but also youth violence, assault, and road rage over the last five
Concluding at this time I think that the PEACE Domestic Violence Agency is set up to help the ever growing issue with domestic violence and other family and community crime. There outcome of insuring that crime rates drop is a great program goal. With the different activities this will insure great process to insure that the goals are met. The
“Every year, in the United States there are over 3 million incidents of reported domestic violence. Every year, 4,000 victims of domestic violence are killed.” (Domestic Violence: Disturbing Facts about Domestic Violence). Domestic violence is a crime that is not just committed in the United States, but worldwide. This crime is committed every day, every hour, every minute, and every second. Anybody can be a victim or the abuser. This can happen to any child, man or woman. This is a horrific crime. Women are more likely to be the victim in domestic violence than men. “Forty-five percent of all violent attacks against female victims 12 years old and older by multiple
The variety of resources available for financing nonprofits may seem overwhelming and unmanageable, especially to someone looking in form the outside. The publication Financing Nonprofits: putting theory into practice (Young, 2007) addresses not only the variety of resources that are available but also the challenges of managing multiple revenue sources. This paper presents a brief reflection on some of the ideas presented in the publication.
Domestic violence has become a very controversial crime in the United States. Although domestic violence has been around for many years, society now sees it as a threat to our homes. This type of crime is unique because it’s a nondiscriminatory crime; it can happen to anyone at any time. Domestic violence is also a dark figure crime, which means that it is a crime least reported to the police. In this paper, I discuss how race, class and gender influence domestic violence. I begin with briefly discussing the different types of abuse within domestic violence and the two types of restraining orders that
Domestic violence is a trauma that unfortunately affects families of all income levels (Sampson, 2006). Although Socioeconomic Status (SES) does not determine if domestic violence will occur in a specific community, those in low SES communities have a much greater chance of experiencing domestic violence (Imbery, 2014). Sampson (2006) reports that men and women who are young, African American, from low-income communities, are renting their hoe or apartment, and are either divorced or separated are at the highest risk of domestic violence. It is reported that in low-income communities, there are more frequent reports to police in terms of domestic violence when compared to higher-income communities (Sampson, 2006). Of these calls to police, the reports from low-income communities are typically more violent and require police enforcement to dispute resolution between the victim and offender. Not only do the survivors of domestic violence in low SES communities face issues in their homes, but also this plays an important role in their success at work and their ability to receive medical attention. These men and women rely on the little money they receive from work and each other and feel trapped in their situation because of their lack of financial resources (Imbery, 2014). Survivors of domestic violence do not receive proper medical and psychological care because they cannot afford the treatment and time off from work. Some states have banned cities from passing paid leave
Domestic violence is a problem which spans across socioeconomic class, race, culture, religion, sexual orientation, age, and gender. This paper focuses on intimate partner violence, but that is not to downplay the seriousness, importance, and validity of other types of domestic violence.
Program planning is the implementation of evaluation process. It is the groundwork where priorities are decided and the results are analyzed on a measurable scale.
According to data from the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS), in 2003 to 2012, domestic violence accounted for almost a quarter of all violent crimes committed. According to the same survey conducted, only 55% of those domestic violence crimes were reported to the police. Based on a study that was conducted on past domestic violence crimes, there was a decline of domestic violence from 1994-2003 but in recent years, depending on the type of intimate partner violence, each either had a small increase or stayed the same (Truman, 2014).
Domestic violence is an abusive behavior that occurs in relationships among human beings; usually this behavior continues systematically and appears in different forms such as physical assault, mental abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, and others. According to the research conducted by the Center for Disease Control, every year, approximately ten million females and males become victims of domestic violence in the United States (Black, et al 1). Survey concluded that, in the United States, during their lifetime, 35,6% of women and 28.5% of men have “have experienced rape, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner”(1). In modern society, women more often become victims of domestic violence compared to men.
As many people know, domestic violence is a criminal act involving victims and offenders who are related to one another. Domestic Violence includes intimidation and simple, aggravated, and sexual assault. What most people may not be aware of is that domestic violence has become a national dilemma, with a crime of this type occurring every 9 seconds. Family members try to ignore what’s happening and neighbors do not want to get involved. The victim is usually helpless to understand the problem, let alone determine the solution to it. Instead of the difficulties being addressed before they can further develop, law enforcement agencies are usually left to handle each case only after a criminal act has taken place and someone has been injured. At this point, the officers themselves are at risk due to the volatile nature of the situation. Despite the stereotypes, domestic violence knows no racial, gender, age, religious, socioeconomic, or sexual orientation boundaries and statistics show that these crimes impact virtually every one of us in some way.
My personal project focussed on the families that have been placed in Women’s Shelters. The families placed aren’t established there for no reason. All of them have been victims of domestic violence, and they’re all trying to escape from the abuse as best as they can. The organization itself housed a total of 290 people in 2013, but there are so many people in the world that are still suffering from their significant other abusing them. My focus on the project was mainly on raising my own self-awareness about the families in the organization. Domestic violence is an issue that many people are aware of, yet a majority of people don’t seem to know the consequences that are a result. I think this issue isn’t one that should be mitigated. It deserves to be made a fuss about, because domestic violence is a significant topic that’s worth discussing.
