PFCH Network Design Plan NTC/361 June 2, 2014 Bruce Yamashita PFCH Network Design Plan Network Design and Topologies (Stormie) Our Learning Team has been selected to consult for Patton-Fuller Community Hospital (PFCH), a prestigious health care organization. At their last meeting, the hospital board asked your team to develop a proposal on how the organization might upgrade its telecommunications network to improve the quality of health care delivered to hospital patients. Identify Current Systems (Stephanie) Currently Patton-Fuller Community Hospital (PFCH) utilizes four information systems in an effort to improve communications and collaboration among the management, administrations, clerical, employees, physicians, …show more content…
There are far more advantages then disadvantages to having a telephone system installed in the Patton Fuller hospital. One of the disadvantage is that employees can hide behind the telephone and be rude to patients without the patient being able to identify who they were talking to. This can be very hurtful to the hospital from a customer service standpoint. Another disadvantage to having a telephone system is if there is a patient that is handicap and needs assistance over the phone a patient can get transferred hundreds of times before reaching the person they need to speak to an the patient sometimes hangs up in frustration. Integration of Telecommunication System (Windy) A Hospital Information System (HIS) would be beneficial for Patton-Fuller Community Hospital (PFCH) and a way to integrate telecommunication. Hospital Information System is a computer system that manages all the information needed for health care providers so they can give quality care to patients. The article “Hospital Information System (HIS)” explains, “Modern HIS includes many applications addressing the needs of various departments in a hospital. They manage the data related to the clinic, finance department, laboratory, nursing, pharmacy and also the radiology and pathology departments” (2014). HIS has advanced since it was first
Since healthcare system was implemented by the Bacon County Hospital a lot of changes have taken place which resulted to introduction of some of the most advanced informatics system. Initial the hospital informatics system was
Healthcare facilities are now implementing to some kind of information system that has a computer-based entry and decision report. The use of this equipment will improve the quality of care, the security of their patients, and the way they can keep track with their information with a reporting system.
The introduction of information systems in health care industry has made enormous development in patient care and satisfaction. The interoperability of the different systems with in a organization is important to achieve effectiveness of the system. The process of developing and integrating the information system is time consuming, complex and costly. This paper is a report submitted by an informatics director to the chief operating officer of an organization proposing a solution to solve the communication problems within the information system.
A powerful IT infrastructure is necessary to advance healthcare quality. Among countless other advantages, an effective IT infrastructure generates accurate and accessible performance data, allowing monitoring of results. However, Hill absorbed the cost to physicians which encouraged their physicians to adapt to the new system. Similarly, they made sure the system was user friendly which lessened frustration and resistance.
The main reason institutions are switching to the new technology of exchanging health information is specifically to reduce costs and help improve health care quality. In this case study that is what San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center wanted exactly, to effortlessly exchange patient’s medical information. San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center which is a rural hospital in Alamosa Colorado is one of the many hospitals and providers that can benefit from this change. In 2004 AHRQ signed a contract to the University of Colorado Health and sciences Center, which later on developed a point-of-care inquiry system for four healthcare organizations in the Denver region. The system allowed emergency room clinicians within the four locations to exchange medical data. They were able to sufficiently and rapidly retrieve and send patient medical histories, x-rays, medication lists, and all problem lists. The AHRQ contract also help started the development of the
Recent reforms in health care, such as the passage of measures mandating electronic health care records, make unified public health information systems an increasingly viable option for providers, insurance companies, and care facilities. An examination of the experience of the Missouri Department of Health indicates that the construction of such a system based on information engineering has a number of benefits but only if properly implemented with prudent foresight. Some of the most valuable lessons learned that can assist other health care providers with the implementation of a similar system include protecting client confidentiality, procuring funding, sharing information with other agencies, gaining executive sponsorship, and allocating a sufficient amount of time and resources to such an undertaking.
Health Information Administrators (HIA) has grown from being traditionally centered in hospitals to multiple setting throughout the healthcare market. The role of Health Information Administrators still focuses on the responsibility of the patient medical records to be in compliant with all legal, ethical and medical requirements by being monitored. HIA must use their knowledge in information technology to make certain that the critical information from the patient medical record is properly documented and maintain in the system’s databases in order to accomplish all business operation of the health establishment. The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center depends on the Information System (IS) Department for planning, control,
Improving patient care will always come first, second will be to control waste, which will assist the organization to function properly. This paper will help one understand why implementing an electronic health records system into a hospital is critical for patient care. This by focusing on the importance of such system, for the patient and the hospital. This very critical point is very important for the success of any health care system. The hospital must first recognize that electronic health records will only benefit their patient care delivery and quality. Such characteristics hold a hospitals reputation. In order to stay competitive, hospitals must keep up with technology, and the use of electronic health records is one system currently used by many hospitals, and other health care facilities. If the implementation is not consider by a hospital, this facility will fail at deliver the appropriate patient care. Such actions or wrong ideas, can easily lead a hospital to have to close its doors. Nevertheless, this project will help one to recognize required steps for planning and implementing an electronic health records system into a hospital.
The research will provide a thorough overview of information systems and their importance in the Central Service Department. It will provide a brief history of health care information system in the United States. It will also high a few cases of challenges of IT
As a nurse I believe that, nurses still require time to fine-tune to adapt with the integrating of computer into our daily work practice. However, I do acknowledge that, in future technology is going to be far more advance than we could ever imagine of. In future transformation of data and informational resources are expected. Here I would like to share what my organization is planning for the future. Being one of the biggest private hospitals the management is looking forward for way to improve healthcare for the patient’s by using telemedicine. Telemedicine exchanges medical information from one place to another using electronic communication.
For a medium-sized urban hospital with 160 beds and 1,500 associates to be able to gain the trust and confidence of patients and compete with mega-hospitals in the healthcare industry, the management of the hospital would have to explore new technologies that would enhance the quality of services and patient care rendered to customers. Further, to ensure that all the departments in the hospitals such as ICUs, mother & baby, emergency services, radiology, oncology, surgery, and operating room (OR) would have to function efficiently and improve the patient experience. New EMR application would improve the security of patient’s information and ensure timely retrieval of medical records such that the quality of diagnosis would be enhanced significantly. As the IT director, it is my responsibility to make sure that the hospital system has a robust IT network that would enable efficient information flow within
Abstract: In the Last Decade advancements in information and communication Technologies (ICT) has provided solutions to the problems in health care managements system ICTs. It has the possibility to massively contribute to improving access and quality of services while containing costs. Improving health involves improving public health and medical programs designed to provide elective, emergency, and long-term clinical care; educating people; improving nutrition and hygiene; and providing more sanitary living conditions. However, there is a low implementation rate for Health ICT systems. This Paper will examine information management in the healthcare industry and the roles ICT Plays as well as evaluate the barriers faced when implementing
US healthcare system has currently realized the need to adopt the use of health care information technology. It has thus made the federal government invest heavily in the project so as to increase the use of health IT research in the hospital computer. The need for this information in hospitals came as a result of the need to study and analyze the behaviors of the patients. It is also meant to help in the identification of the implications that are available for the practitioners following their future policy decisions that are related to the adopted technology.
The use of information technology in healthcare entails a wide range of advanced technologies that are made to manage and share information that is related to health. The most important type of health informatics is a system that gathers, stores, and systematizes health information concerning patients. When correctly implemented, this type of a system can aid in the coordination of care offered to patients, minimize health errors, and improve the efficiency of the medical efficiency.
Hospital facilities must be ready to support the community. The reality is that communities need to update their healthcare systems, in order to have a continued flow of information available for patient care. Excellent communication is necessary for transparency in an emergency, because it sets the pace for a fast and accurate decision, thus making the process more manageable for hospital database systems. This raises the community’s trust, and keeps the flow of data reliable and truthful; and may even avoid a disaster. Another way to use technology is through electronic communication devices that allow organizations to update their system easier and check randomly for quality patient care. Healthcare facilities are using new types of technologies such as, phone and e-mail to locate and inform patient and staff in an emergency (NotiFind, 2007).
