Week 1 Assignment 1. Describe a situation in which critical and creative thought could have been used for a better outcome. Describe why it is important to think critically and creatively in similar situations. A situation that comes to mind in which critical thinking and creative thought could have been used for a better outcome in the President Clinton and Monica Lewinsky affair. Indecent affairs, such as what President Clinton participated on, are highly frowned upon especially in a man of his stature. He was the leader of the Free World. If President Clinton had used critical thinking, his presidency would not have been put to shame. It is easy to reject change just because I have grown accustomed to the way the work is being performed. Without examining the new way, I am not giving it a chance. Rejecting change delays progress and wastes time and effort. To overcome this hindrance, reactions should be set aside, and the change should be judged critically based on the idea. Conformity is thinking the way others from the group believe to avoid being different. I also work with people in higher rank than mine. Sometimes it is hard to think differently than them because I fear being different or sounding stupid. To overcome this hindrance, thinking should be based on evidence and not on what others think. 4. Identify a message in advertising. Describe how you perceive the message of the advertisement. Try to determine the reality of the advertisement. Distinguish between your perception and the reality of the message. Perfume advertisements, both in magazines and in television, involve selling more than just the scent. It taps into the human psyche and tries to sell the perfume by linking the brand with desirable ideas such as femininity, masculinity, love, passion, etc. Perfume advertisement usually tries to appeal to the other senses. It usually tries to sell sex by advertising with a beautiful and sexy model or a celebrity in a desirable location.
