As our year of service ends we were reflecting on the 4 Hallmarks of Phi Theta Kappa and have come to grasp a small understand of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Fellowship. The foundation of Phi Theta Kappa instills the traits through Leadership Development. The courses available to members will help each gain confidence as each learns what a leader truly is. Our advisors set the standards with continuously setting examples of leadership in their own lives. Members learn, not only from their examples, but from the development tools given when you become emerged in the learning process that is diverse, interdisciplinary approach such as 8 months of academic research, written papers, implementing a project that will have an effect not

Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority, Incorporated purpose is to be of service to all mankind dealing with critical issues in communities domestically and internationally. What I have grown to understand an envision a woman of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated to be, I accredit largely to the ladies of the Gamma Theta chapter. This has the result of attending many of the chapter’s events during my time at Hampton thus far. One of my favorite events was a screening of a documentary Girls Rising. I learned to appreciate every opportunity to learn and gain knowledge because in some parts of the world girls are restricted from receiving an education. A

​From a time when achievement was rare, and succeeding among minority was minuscule, a sense of order was needed. During this time Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated came into the world, bringing core values and achievement. Within the five objectives Kappa Alpha Psi showcases the distinction of itself from other fraternities. The founding fathers had the desire to shape a unique group personality different from the other greek letter college organizations, around the idea of achievement. When achievement was mainly concerned with improvement of personal status, security, and meeting the demands of everyday living the founders of the fraternity envisioned something bigger. Thus bringing about the Five Objectives that men of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated live by and exemplify on a day to day basis showcasing Achievement in every field of human endeavor.

When you step out of this room to the photography room on the right your feelings within the surrounding change once again. In the first room of the museum the tile is white and thus reflects light, creating yet more light in the surrounding area. The walls go from light and colorful shades to a medium tinted of gray creating a more plain mood within the room. In the side room full of photography the flooring changes from white large stone tiles to wood panel flooring. The opening to this second room is an opening the wall rather than another doorway but instead of the opening stretching all the way up to the ceiling, there is a thinner horizontal plank at the top that is an almost metallically aluminum color. Pursuing the dream of obtaining membership into the First Intercollegiate Greek Fraternity for African Americans, Alpha Phi Alpha, Inc. is one of very few ultimate goals in my life. An organization that was founded to stimulate the ambitions of its members and prepare them for great usefulness within the community has since become one of the most well respected organizations in America. Over one hundred years later, the pivotal movement in 1906 has spread to over the entire country in different collegiate chapters and cities across America and the impact has been tremendous. Alpha Phi Alpha, Inc. was vaguely introduced to me as a child but it did not take effect until I started school at Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

The Firefly room is brightly lit with three large windows that look out onto the playground and garden. The walls are painted bright red and are adorned with student’s artwork as well as educational posters. Roughly two thirds of the room is carpeted and the other one third is tiled. The tiled portion of the room contains tree tables that are used for teacher led activities and mealtimes. This portion of the room also contains some storage a long sand table and a hand sink. The carpeted portion of the room contains the rooms five activity centers, open area to run and play and contains a large carpet used for circle time. One corner of the room is reserved for storing the children’s cots, there is also an unused changing station and more storage.

To some individuals, I was considered very lucky to be reared in the upbringing I experienced. But in my eyes it was a double edged sword.
