On ABC’s Good Morning America’s Weekend Adventure special, viewers were taking to new depths of excitement and adventure as tourists went face to face with the beautiful Caribbean Reef Shark off the coast of the Bahamas. The video clip we saw showed tourists from around the world getting up close and personal with these huge, majestic fish. Participates were ecstatic after there trip down under with the fish. One tourist says, “No other dive compares to it”. How have these people been attracted to these adventure dives, and what makes these so appealing? Those are the questions I will explain in the next paragraph. If you stop an average person of the street and ask, “What is your opinion on sharks?” the response you would more than likely
“The Misunderstood Shark” was written by Gregory Skomal, a biologist at the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries and shark fanatic. His article was published by The Wall Street Journal on August 7, 2015. The engaging title, itself grabs the reader’s attention, making the reader feel sympathetic towards the shark. Upon hearing the word, “shark”, an individual may cringe. The author makes a solid claim that our attitudes about sharks are changing, but not towards direction it needs to be. He supports his argument with strong appeals to logos, pathos, and ethos throughout the article.
Sharks are one of the oceans top predators. They vary in size from the extremely small dwarf shark, to the colossal whale shark. Sharks can be found all across the world’s oceans, from the tropic waters of Hawaii to the sub zero temperatures in the Artic oceans. Of the hundreds of sharks a select few species have actually been recorded in the Artic. Of these few, only three of them spend the majority of their time in these harsh, freezing waters. These sharks are the Greenland, Pacific Sleeper, and Salmon sharks.
Also hey are very unique and interesting. They can get up to 15ft long. Next blue sharks like to move around so they don’t stay in one spot for long. At last watching the movie jaws made people have many opinions that are oncel sharks. People find sharks very threatening but they are just like us.
In John Bauer’s short story, “The Truth About Sharks”, Beth is treated unfairly by the security guard. To begin with, the security guard shouts at Beth due to the misunderstanding about her shoplifting, which caused her to cry and become uncomfortable. As Beth is talking to the security officer, the officer angrily shouts and causes Beth to say “ you’re hurting me!”(133). Beth is treated unfairly because of the misunderstanding due to her shoplifting. She is terrified of the consequences that could happen such as going to jail, losing her son and being charged. Beth is uncertain about her future and the next moments. This situation will drastically change the daily lives of all three characters and put them in uncertainty. Next, Beth is violently
Beginning with the simplest one-celled organism, an extraordinary animal rose in the murky waters entitled to a non-comparable killing-eating machine. This organism has become nature’s most genuine and most successful creature that it has remained unchanged for over 250 million years. Nature finally invented the perfect king of the sea. This animal has given the sea it’s “living” adjective; in turn, it was entitled—the “great white shark.”
For this discussion, I chose to examine the reproductive nature of mountain lions and hammer head sharks. Mountain lions are solitary cats that live in various mountainous regions of north and south America, but a male and female come together socially in order to mate during the 3-10 day estrus period. Due to their solitary nature, mountain lions rely on scent marking in different territory as well as a mating call of the female in order to initiate the potential for sex. Typically, when a male and female find each other; they spend several days together during the mating period and he may hunt for her and run mating circles around her. Mountain lions are polygynous and both the males and females will mate with multiple individuals throughout
The Mako shark is a very unique species of cartilaginous fish in the Lamnidae family (Col-Spector, Audrey, “MAKO SHARK- Enchanted Learning Software"). This pelagic swimmer is the fastest shark that has ever been observed in the ocean, clocking in at speeds up to 60 mph (Col-Spector). Its streamlined body allows it to swim at faster speeds than most other fish, making it a highly successful predator. “Schooling fish, including tuna, herring, mackerel, swordfish, and porpoise” are popular among the diet of the Makos (Col-Spector). Although they like to prey specifically on schooling fish, Makos eat just about anything they come across (Col-Spector). The Mako sharks physical features and social characteristics is what sets it apart from other species of the deep.
Who wouldn’t want a Hammerhead Shark as a pet? Even though I think sharks are awesome, and other people agree there’s a few little things you might want to consider before you think you could have one as your man’s best friend. The rest of this paper is about the reasons why you shouldn’t have a Hammerhead Shark as your new BFWF. (Best Friend With Fins.)
Ever since the release of the movie Jaws, sharks have had an extremely violent reputation. Although statistics prove unprovoked shark attacks on humans are extremely rare, people continue to believe the negative consortiums of sharks, that they are man- eating predators. This became very apparent to me when I told people my summer plans of shark diving in Fiji. The responses varied but all of them had the same message: that if I were to want to dive in the ocean with big sharks, I must be crazy. My friends and family would constantly ask me if I was sure that I wanted to go. Even if I just mention that sharks are my favorite animal people would ask if I was joking or how I could possibly like sharks. I had known that diving with sharks was not the most popular activity, but I realized how negativity people really felt about sharks and diving with them. I ultimately stuck with my gut and pursued my passion because like Emerson says, “What I must do is all that concerns me, not what people think.” I would have to ignore people’s negative comments and not let them “sink like darts” into my ears and “put me in fear”, like Emerson suggests in “Self- Reliance”. I went against what others told me, and I dove with sharks which although was misunderstood, was the greatest

In the early 2000s, the ‘Anthropocene’ emerged as a widespread term to represent the current era of Earth’s history. According to Paul J. Crutzen and Eugene F. Stoermer, the ‘Anthopocene’ represents a “geologic epoch” characterized by human activities that profoundly transform the environment, threaten ecosystems, and cause unparalleled disruptions on earth’s natural processes. (Ogden et al. 2013: 341) Unfortunately, humanity in the period of the ‘Anthropocene’ has contributed to a range of environmental problems, including pollution and mass extinctions. (Ogden et al. 2013: 341) One ancient species considerably at risk in the ‘Anthropocene’ is the Great White Shark. Despite its precarious position and its imminent eradication, the Great White Shark must be respected and understood. In an attempt to reveal the intrinsic value of the oceans’ most important predator, humans must shed conceptions of Great White Sharks as mindless man-eating monsters and instead conceive of them in a new light. Ultimately, a thorough exploration reveals Great Whites inherent value independent of their worth to humans. Furthermore, it serves as an important framework for thinking about the harmful consequences human practices have the environment. Ultimately, this examination changes humankinds attitudes towards the Great White and dispels popular myths to reveal that all species are fundamentally related and share a common destiny.
Do you know what a mako shark is? They are curious beings and are closely related to the great white shark. Tagged by ocearch, Lazarus and other sharks are helping the ocean’s ecosystem.
Also identified as the Triaenodon Obesus, the Whitetip Reef Shark is one of the most populous sharks in the Indo-Pacific, along with the Gray Reef and Blacktip Reef sharks. The Whitetip Reef Shark grows up to about eight-foot-long and weighs about 44 lbs. It has a gray complexion; distinct gills and its dorsal and caudal fins have a white tip. They also have large eyes that enable them to see in little light. The eyes of the Whitetip Reef Shark along with their sonic senses and ability to use the ampullae of Lorenzini in their snout to detect the electrical charges of their prey is beneficial when they are hunting at night. The Whitetip Reef Shark is found almost exclusively in the caves and crevices of the coral reefs throughout the Indo-Pacific.
If a shark and a polar bear get in a fight it would be good to watch. I know what you are thinking, is the polar bear in water or is the shark on land. They are getting in the fight on a neutral jelly like medium. Well I think the shark will win. Even though it would get interesting. Here is my reasoning.
My animal s the greenland shark. This animal likes to be in a cold climate. They are smaller but they can do as much damage as a real live shark. They eat a lot of fish that live in the sea.
