In the book Knowing God, Packer breaks up the entire book into 3 sections: Know The lord, Behold your God, and if God is for us and we for him. It is important to see that these factors build each other up as the book moves along. What I will be looking at is the essence of christianity and essentially what triggers it to be the essence of our relationship with christ..
In the section that pertains to know the lord, Packer begins with the “Study of God,” which is essentially theology, and presents the need for it. He also discusses objections to studying theology. “Disregard the study of God, and you sentence yourself to stumble through life blindfolded. Then he presented five basic principles for knowing God that are essentially given as a guide. 1. Bible, 2. God is Lord, 3. God is Savior, 4. God is triune and 5. living by God’s Word. (20)This knowledge of God must be applied to us living out our lives for him. The first section of the book is meant to challenge us as to what it means to truly know our God
This second section of the book exhibits the characteristics of God and how they are shown through the actions he puts forth. The writer starts saying God is unchanging and majestic, and then how other things like wisdom, love, grace, justice etc. He

Wisdom essentially provides help to show us that we depend on God and are to live our lives like Christ. This in depth exploration on the love that God has for us will help us to gain a fuller understanding of what the Bible truly shows in this area. Packer states that in us trying to get a hold of the wisdom, we accidentally overlook the love and grace of God.(149) This is to paint a picture so that we can see the true glory/greatness of
Why do we even need wisdom? Wisdom is essential because how is the human race going to learn how to survive efficiently and fully without wisdom? How are people going to learn once you do something and get in trouble you don’t do it again, thus, making you wiser.

When studying the Bible, it is important to understand its origins; for me, I I have become enlightened, but troubled after learning about the subject. I found the unit, as a whole, very important and a positive experience for me. But, with this comes much apprehension and confusion as to the strength of the Bible.
Lewis’ essay relates to this course as Theology provides a perspective on understanding creation, the transcendent power, and humanity around us. He acknowledges that multiple viewpoints exist from the inside and outside perspectives. Also, one cannot ignore or discount specific inside experiences as it helps us think about something. Therefore, in Theology 205, there will inevitably be many ways to understand life, our purpose, and the people we are becoming. We are also covering the Bible in depth, so some of us will look “at the beam” if they have never read it, while others will look “along the beam” if they are familiar with its interpretations. The students who will look along the beam are those who are Christian or Jew, since they already use the Bible as some guidance in life. In contrast, those who look at the beam are ones who are new to this subject, those willing to view this course from a new lens, and those who do not practice Christianity or Judaism.
She has prepared her meat and mixed her wine; she has also set her table. She has sent out her maids, and she calls from the highest point of the city. “Let all who are simple come in here!” she says to those who lack judgment. “Come, eat my food and drink the wine I have mixed. Leave your simple ways and you will live; walk in the way of understanding.” Proverbs (9:13-18) “The woman Folly is loud; she is undisciplined and without knowledge. She sits at the door of her house, on a seat at the highest point of the city, calling out to those who pass by, who go straight on their way. “Let all who are simple come in here!” she says to those who lack judgment. “Stolen water is sweet; food eaten in secret is delicious!” But little do they know that the dead are there, that her guests are in the depths of the grave.” Solomon depicts wisdom as a woman who has diligent, understanding, one who is prepared and ready to share with all who are lacking in judgment.(1-12) Where the woman of folly is loud, lazy, lacks understanding, likes to live in darkness and
Book Two is trying to emphasize three important points that God wants us to understand. First, Book two wants individuals to know that God wants all men to be saved and for all men to believe in him and now and understand that God is real. Secound, important point that is made in this passage is individuals need to not have doubt in God only knowledge and belief in God and in the choices that he makes. Also, individuals need to not be selfish and only look out for themselves but these individusasl need to follow Gods wants and needs that he has for us. Third, important aspect of this passage is individuals need to not judge God and the choices he makes for us. Individuals need to trust in God’s decisions and most importantly have faith in God because God makes choices for a reason. We may not understand why he makes the choices he makes for us but sometimes God makes certain things happen in order to lead us down a different path that we ourselves did not think of but God knows it is a good choice for us.
Summary: Within Chapter 5 Julian describes how she started to realize how grand of a person God was in our lives. She explains how she sees him as “everything
Proverbs 2:6-8, "It is the Lord who gives wisdom; from him come knowledge and understanding. He provides help and protection for righteous, honest men. He protects those who treat others fairly, and guards those who are devoted to him."
In this chapter, the author states that many feel that theology is unnecessary to understanding God. Most feel that they know more about God because of personal experiences. The author says he agrees with that to some degree; however, he feels that one is very limited with only the personal experience and without what he calls a map, which is what theology would be as related to the Christian religion. Without
The Institutes for the Christian Religion consists of four books. Book one is the knowledge of God, the creator; book two is the knowledge of God the redeemer, in Christ, as manifested to the fathers; book three is the the mode of obtaining the grace of Christ and book four is the external means to which God allures us into the fellowship of Christ and keeps us in it (Smith, 2003).
The book references this on pages 18-20. There is proof of the characteristics in this excerpt. The first is Tertullian references scripture. He references that God is ready to redeem you. The next characteristic is showing how to live.Tertullian shows us that one must repent to live an honest and good life. The last characteristic shown in this excerpt is the bond between the other two characteristics. It shows one that they need to follow the scripture to live the honest and good life.
The wisdom of God is shown through word and work. The wisdom of God through his word all started with Adam and Eve. Adam and Eve was in the garden and everything they needed was provided and they had free reign throughout the garden, however the tree that was in the middle of the garden was forbidden. God had warned Adam and Eve from eating off the tree but they did any way. If they had listened to him and not followed the temptation, they would have never known evil. Not only does God show his wisdom through word but he also shows it through his work. In Genesis 6 it tells the story of Noah. Genesis 6:5-8 states that God saw how great man’s wickedness on earth had become and that the thoughts of his hearts was only evil all the time, his heart was filled with pain. The lord responded and said “ I will wipe mankind whom I have created from the face of the earth-men and animals… but Noah found favor in the eyes of God. During the flood the only people who were saved where Noah and his family. By God’s wisdom the earth was restored with a new generation. Seeking the wisdom of God is the number one answer to every individual on
Wisdom Tradition is a term applied to the Old Testament books of Proverbs, Job, Sirach, Wisdom of Solomon, and Ecclesiastes. Wisdom Tradition books all share characteristics and points of view that are somewhat different than other biblical books. Wisdom tradition has very prominent characteristics from other books in the Old Testament such as a search for the goal of life, how to master it and questioning the problems of life, showing interest to human experiences that affect all people, joy of creativity and creation, and very little interest in the great acts of divine salvation. These qualities appear in a few books in the Old Testament. All of them show wisdom, but only some show both wisdom and tradition. Books such as Proverbs, Job, Ecclesiastes values the beauty of creation and the confidence of human life and nature. This was a new concept to Israel. They learned about wisdom tradition through other nations. They were influenced from Mesopotamian literature and took their ideas of meditations of sufferings and God’s justice into their Old Testament Books. Suffering can be seen in Job, but in the next essay and upcoming classes, we will be relating this to women suffering. The wisdom perspectives did not replace the other two major strands of thought in Ancient Israel, that of prophets and priests. It was simply a different focus that was complementary with the other perspectives presented in the Bible.

Some key themes or repeated actions were the creation of the world. In these passages, God did not only speak into existence, but we can perceive that there is definitely power in his word. He created the universe and everything that resides in it. Including humankind, and every creature that walk on this planet. He also makes sure that everything he created was good. Nevertheless, with his good creation also came responsibilities with which we are to adhere to (following his rules and regulations). However, man disobeys God, which led to many consequences we are experiencing in the world today.
