Paganism an Introduction to Earth-Centered Religions by Joyce & River Higginbotham
“Magick is the Science and Art of causing Change to occur in conformity with Will” - Aleister Crowley When I was young, I always knew magick exists in our world. I dabble with a spell that will help me stop bleeding, which comes in handy when hiding a scar from my parents or prevent blood loss. However, as I got older weird things would happen. Such as, seeing things before it happens, being able to drain someone 's car batteries while I’m in the car, and of course getting lucky while having a silver dollar coin in my possession. Although, some religious people may argue that Pagans are devil worshipers because they believed they are provoking evil demons.

Such as, the Holiday of “Easter” the painting of the eggs and the finding of the eggs, relates to Jesus Christ’s resurrection from death. After reading Paganism, I learned that “Easter” is a holiday not only celebrates the resurrection of Jesus, but a holiday of the Spring Equinox. Easter is a goddess known for fertility. In German she is called Ostara and in Anglo-Saxons she is known as Eostre. It’s celebrated the balance of light and darkness and the arrival of spring a renewal of the life force. In which, would explain why the Holy Roman Church would choose that date for Christ’s resurrection, so the people could not practice their religion. However, it didn’t stop the people because it’s we still practice paganism tradition that’s taken place today.
Today’s religions, we have a choice whether or not to believe in one or more religious practice we feel comfortable with. As such, I’m comfortable with practicing pagan and Catholics, but also Christianity. Even though, I don’t believe the Christian teaching of the bible I still respect their beliefs despite of what I feel about. However, River Higginbotham, mention that there are seven principles of Paganism in which these principles will help strengthen our spiritual growth despite our culture or religion. Within these seven principles everyone has a choice whether or not to believe in the ideas that

(Villalba). While some religions honor Halloween, others honor Easter. Easter is a holiday celebrated by Christian faith. Easter day represents the death of Jesus Christ and his resurrection. For Christians, Easter marks the end of Lenten fasts, which is why Easter is usually celebrated with a feast. Some Christians believe that by following the process of fasting, baptisms, and sacraments, is their way to get into heaven.
Throughout our lives we are asked the question, “Do you believe in magic?” A majority of people answer no, knowing that bunnies cannot simply appear out of thin air and that people cannot be sawed in half and be put back together without harm. I am part of the minority that would say yes, I do believe in magic. I do not believe in the magic mentioned previously, as I cannot be deceived by sleight of hand tricks and optical illusions. But, I have experienced magic, a rare kind that not many get to experience in their lifetime. It’s the magic of a place, my home away from home, Clara Barton Camp, a camp for young girls with Type 1 Diabetes.
England’s history includes interesting facts in regard to religion that developed over time. One piece of Historiography mentions the development of Christianity from a Pagan society to Christianity. This development is mentioned in Bede’s work Ecclesiastical History of the Christian People. He discusses kings who helps bring the faith of Christianity to a rise. Paganism does exist even if Christianity began to rise. Bede suggests there is variations in England due to paganism existing and Christianity is trying to arise.
Easter is the greatest celebration of triumph and liberation; triumph of life over death, good over evil, love over hate, light over darkness, righteousness over iniquity, and deliverance from the bonds of sin. It is the demise of our
During the time of Christianity there was not just one interpretation, but several, various groups of early Christians who accepted and trusted different stories regarding Christianity and Jesus. At that time there wasn't a “New Testament” but what was instead considered to be an assorted selection of writing, that was done by several different groups of people. One of these collections of writing was established by Paul. In a way, Paul defined and spread Christianity. He believed that Jesus was both Man and God, and that Christianity was not just something that branched off from Judaism, but instead its own separate religion. Along with his group, Paul was able to travel through the Roman Empire and build churches recruiting assistance from the Pagans and along his journey he adopted many of the beliefs and customs in order to make them feel comfortable and
To Keep Silent: Those who know do not speak. The more you speak about your magickal workings the more power you lose. You are never to speak about our tradition to those on the outside. It also harkens back to when witches were persecuted and there for did not talk openly about their beliefs.
Christianity celebrates many different holidays such as Christmas, Easter, Ash Wednesday, and Pentecost. These holidays help christian people become closer to God through prayer and thinking. These holidays represent what the christian faith believes in and they celebrate them to show thanks and to give back to the church. They celebrate holidays in many different ways, but all of them are for a common purpose.
Durkheim tried to distinguish between religion and magic. He suggested that religious or sacred things are special and that commonplace things are profane. Magic rituals he claimed were just social events. Religious ideas were created while rituals were being performed causing many emotional participates to feel the presence of unseen beings among them, which was Durkheim’s idea of a sacred world. Durkheim stated that there is “no church of magic” and that there was no lasting bond between the magician and his audience. A church binds the group together and a moral community because participates believe in the same god or participate in the same cult.
The modern pagan movement in the United States originates from a fusion of several philosophical and religious thought patterns including traditional European folklores, esoteric thought, feminism, Western occult beliefs, and rejection of traditional monotheistic religions in Great Britain during the 1950s (Jorgensen, D. L., & Russell, S. E., 1999; Moe, J. L., Cates, K., & Sepulveda, V., 2013). Since spreading to the US in the 1960s paganism has continued its development as a distinct religious philosophy and has become one of the fastest growing religions in North America (Jorgensen, D. L., & Russell, S. E., 1999; Lewis, J. R., & Tollefsen, I. B., 2013; Reid, S. 2005). Because this movement developed relatively recently there has been little quantitative research

In my paper I will argue that Celtic Spirituality can and should be used to reinvent the church today. The church is in decline and turmoil for many reasons (lack of time or interest, aversion to authority, dislike of evangelical Christian “morals,” avoidance of the term “religious”) but Celtic Spirituality, which has existed for centuries, still speaks. This form of spirituality is valid and should be valued in today’s world because the tradition’s principles can support society’s current theological challenges. Books written by preeminent Celtic spiritualists John O’Donohue and John Philip Newell highlight these core values: friendship, love, beauty, silence and solitude, mystery, and interconnection between all of creation/the cosmos and the divine.
Mentalism- This form of magic is when the magician tries to create the impression that he possesses special powers to read thoughts, predict events or control the minds of others. These feats can be done with a large or solitary audience, on a stage or close-up, Derren Brown is a master of this type of trick.
This historical study will examine the problems of monastic issues in preservation of roman civilization and the problem of Christian conversions for pagan societies in Europe during the early Medieval period of Europe. The purpose of European monasteries was to act in accordance with the Church of Rome’s policy to preserve Roman traditions in government and Christian practices in primarily pagan tribal communities. During this time, the primary writings of St. Benedict define the purpose of the monastery to spread Christianity as a source of religious power throughout Europe. More so, the role of monastic culture in Europe society defines the preservation of roman administration and culture throughout areas considered to be “barbaric”, such as the German tribal kingdom along the Rhine that St. Columban describes in the Boat Song. In addition to preserving Christian society in the Roman Catholic model, the writings of St. Columba define the monastic rules of the early medieval monastery as a vehicle to promote Roman Catholic cultural values as a replacement for the polder pagan tribal models found throughout Europe. In essence, the successful rise of Roman Catholic monasteries in the early medieval period define the problems of preserving Roman civilization and by converting pagans that monks had to endure within European pagan culture.
Around the world, every spring, in many different types of celebrations, millions of people acknowledge that around twenty centuries ago Jesus Christ was raised from the dead; commonly known as “Easter.” Easter is a celebration of the significance of the resurrection of Jesus and it has significance for the created world.
However, again mostly in the last century, even faith has been eroding. Scientists have explained how storms happen and how the sun rises and sets. Many people find nothing to be awed at anymore and we definitely do not have ceremonies to honor the harvest or the hunt. Well, at least not in their original form, and this paper is not the forum to explain certain cultural calendars. People may go to church, synagogue, or other houses of worship, but the
