Jordyn, your father and I have talked about the cruise. We do agree with you that it would be an experience of a lifetime and would be a ton of fun but we do have some concerns. Your father just started a new job and is trying to adjust and with the economy it is hard to go on a vacation that costs $14,810 not including all the other not included exclusives and expenses. Right now that your father just started his new job he is not obligated to a paid vacation. In an article Why is America the no vacation nation it states: "But employers in the united states are not obligated under federal law to offer any paid vacation, so about a quarter of all American workers don't have access to it, government figures show." In the same article it also

A vacation of two weeks after 12 months of service and within the following 10 months or, if the employee has been employed with the same employer longer than 8 years, a vacation of at least three weeks
This unit has me thinking a lot about how things have been where I work. My director left her husband shortly after Christmas 2015. Prior to her leaving, the library was a huge part of her life. I now get why. She was in a miserable marriage and the only thing she felt good at was her job. Since she has left him, her priorities have changed dramatically. All of her programs have suffered, our patrons no longer ask for her assistance – since she is hardly there, she snaps at her staff for making decisions without her – again she isn’t there much to ask her prior, she now finds ways to take no responsibility for her part in the decisions she has made. Initially, we made excuses for her, such as "She is finding herself," or "She just needs time to adjust" or "Once things settle down, things will be back to normal around here." Needless to say, we are still waiting and it has been almost 10 months. Her leadership style has completely changed. She used to fight for the library, now it’s someone else’s problem or worse, it’s someone else’s fault. When discussing the programs dropping in attendance she said,
In 2013, nearly three million Americans missed work due to illness. That costs the United States economy an estimated $84 billion each year. Even though paid sick days are an enticing benefit, there are many downfalls to this proposal. This one-size-fits-all government mandate does not work for every employee.
Take a moment to think about this: you and your significant other just took the step to become parents. Though you are young, you both believed it was time and went ahead and brought a baby into your lives. Staring at your baby and your spouse with loving eyes, you do not think life can get any better. However blissful life may seem, things soon come crashing down. You and your significant other work average wage jobs and are having a hard-enough time supporting each other, and now the cost of diapers, clothes, furniture, formula and baby food are creeping in on you and sucking the life out of your bank account. You want to spend time with your new bundle of joy, but suddenly, your baby is being ripped out of your hands and being sent to an
everyone is treated as equals and how nobody is really above another, stands out to me. Also, how we talked about time off work also stood out to me. I really wish that America wasn’t all about work. I think that we should get more paid leave, especially for maternity leave. Work and money seems to be all that America is about anymore.
Paid time off (PTO) is the employer pools sick days, vacation days, and personal days that allows the employees to utilize upon need. this policy pertains mainly in USA as such no legal requirement for minimum number of paid vacation days. the PTO works best in the culture and accountable employee’s environment existing. US companies determine the amount off the pay day off that will be allocated to each employee. In general way PTO system cover, everything from planned vacation to sick leaves .and are becoming more common in human resources management. unlike traditional more plans leave, PTO doesn’t distinguish employee’s absences from personal days or vacation days or sick days. per study conducted in 2010 by WorldatWork, 44% of 387 companies surveyed said they started using PTO bank-type plans prior to year 2000. Parents who lose wages while they take time off are protected by the Paid Family Leave Act (PFL), as California provides income replacement in order for them to bond with their newborn or newly adopted child. PFL offers six weeks of partial pay in order to care for the child, financially. According to website, paidfamilyleave.org the partial pay is 55 percent of the worker’s usual salary. PFL does not guarantee job protection as the parent has to qualify for the California Family Rights Act. In the article 10 Things You Need to Know About Maternity Leave in the US, it states, “According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, only 12 percent of Americans have access to the paid parental leave, which is considered a benefit by employers,” demonstrating that only certain employees receive paid parental leave as
Father’s Day weekend is the perfect opportunity to spend quality time with the entire family. Take a trip to Vintage937 on June 18th or June 19th any time
According to Laurie Monsebraaten and Zoe McKnight of the Toronto Star (2013), a whopping 50% of Ontario workers of all income levels get by with precarious work - which has no benefits, often low paying, and often temporary. To make matters even worse, the way the Employment Standards Act handles precarious work allows for legal loopholes that effect temporary and fulltime workers alike. Fortunately, the Ontario government is aware of the situation and is proposing changes to benefit employees. For me, the three most important changes are to paid vacation time, over time hours, and schedule-change compensation.
This measure is associated with a large number of absences that coincided with requests for permission to accompany minor children and other family reasons. Therefore, all female and male employees have a paid day off every year, to commit to spending time with family, sharing housework and childcare (GIZ,
Paid parental leave should be equal and for both parents once a child is born
A mere 12 weeks is the amount of unpaid maternity leave promised to working mothers under the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) in America. Although many mothers-to-be gladly take the dozen weeks off, American families are at a disadvantage compared to other families around the globe. The United States is the only industrialized nation in the world that does not guarantee or even offer paid maternity leave for working mothers; employers decide whether to provide paid leave for mothers. In the last few decades, more women have traded their aprons for briefcases. However, working women in the United States must choose to raise families while keeping their jobs. Currently, women in the United States must choose between their kids or their career. Mothers who decide to have families must stay at home with a new baby with no guarantee of a paycheck. New mothers should be guaranteed six months of fully paid maternity leave in the United States because they need to restore their health, paid leave helps the economy, and it promotes better health of the baby.
The only sound that filled my ears was my keyboard clicking as my fingers raced across it. I had been procrastinating from finishing this assignment all evening, but I knew I needed to get it done. The burning sunset was shining through the windows as I was finishing up. It was a peaceful silence, until I heard the soft whispers of my parents that ignited my sense of curiosity. I was concentrating hard; doing my best trying to make out the hushed words that were being spoken.
