It was 7:30 on a Friday when it happened. The cause of the pandemic unknown and its origins have yet to come to light even now, 700 years later. These creatures were known as Necrotic-symbiots but nowadays we just call them what everyone on the internet did back then, zombies. Of course not everything's gone to hell, there are bastions of humanity scattered here and there and some do pretty damn well at protecting they're citizens from the horde, of course, for a price. "COME ON! WE'RE NOT PROTECTING YOU FOR NOTHING!"With a crackle of a whip a young boy is hit by a whip and falls to his knees for but a moment, but quickly gets up, as if this is not the first time this event has occurred. Arthur-'DAMMIT! they'll be sure to tale away my
It was the year 1918, Many people were fighting viciously in the World War fighting for what each side had believed was true and fair. Both the allied and the axis powers were butting heads across Europe, Asia and Africa. As the war was coming to an end a massive 16 million lives were taken from the war-torn events that had taken place. While the war effort was in full force both domestically and internationally, A secret war was brewing under the surface becoming the underlying theme for what would be the most cataclysmic atrocity that had ever existed, only coming second to the bubonic plague. This would be the name of the biggest viral pandemic to had spread since that time, and its name would be the 1918 flu or Spanish
The black plague was one of the worse epidemic of the world. This disease was a horrible and spread widely thought the world at a rapidly rate. The black plague arrived in October of the year 1347. This disease was arrived by sea when 12 Genoese trading ships docked at the Sicilian port of Messina, through the black sea. When the ships arrived to be docked there was a horrifying sight to see. The people on the boats were mostly dead and the others were barely holding onto life, that they had left. For the passengers that were still holding onto life were having symptoms of very high fevers, unable to keep any foods or liquids down, with also the agony of pain that they were having. The most unbearable thing that the black plague did to the
Flu is a book written by Gina Kolata. Kolata wrote Flu in 1999. “Gina Bari Kolata is an American science journalist, writing for The New York Times”(Wikipedia, 2016). Kolata wrote Flu in order to inform people about the terrible plague of 1918. Flu is a nonfiction story explaining how the plague of 1918 destroyed the life of families and killed more than any other illness.
This paper will discuss the communicable disease influenza. It will discuss the causes, symptoms, and treatments, as well as the demographics of interest. It will also discuss the determinants of health and how these factors contribute to the development of influenza. Included in this paper will be information on host, agent, and environmental factors. Lastly it will explain the role of the community health nurse in caring for those affected with influenza and the role they play in education and prevention.
By the second year of pandemic the plague had killed an estimated 25 million (Plague) of the peasantry, nobility, and clergy. Nobody was immune to the disease. The poor sanitation became a massive issue with the lack of
The Black Death was a terrifying plague that struck Europe and Asia unexpectedly and reduced populations by millions; it was also coined the “Bubonic Plague”. This horrific disease stunned and traumatized every member of society. It’s common symptoms were vomiting, fever, fierce coughing, sneezing, and black and blue blotches or bruises. The most obvious signs of this infection, though, were swollen lymph nodes in the armpits and groin. Although people didn’t know where it came from, the disease was spread by fleas that fed on the blood of infected rodents and rats and proceeded to jump onto people when the rats died. Seeing as people went months without changing clothes or bathing, it’s not surprising that this vile disease came along. Ultimately,
“Tuberculosis (TB), a multisystem disease with myriad presentations and manifestations, is the most common cause of infectious disease–related mortality worldwide. Although TB rates are decreasing in the United States, the disease is becoming more common in many parts of the world. In addition, the prevalence of drug-resistant TB is increasing worldwide. TB is caused by M tuberculosis, a slow-growing obligate aerobe and a facultative intracellular parasite. The organism grows in parallel groups called cords (as seen in the image below). It retains many
The main doctors for this disease were the plague doctors. The origins of this plague are traced back to the Gobi desert. This disease will cause parts of your body to change to the color black. This is the reason why they call this plague the black death. This plague is a life-threatening infection of the blood.
Epidemiology is viewed as the fundamental science of public health and is key in endorsing optimal health in the community as a whole (Stanhope & Lancaster, 2008). Epidemiologic study and practice continues to reform public health and endeavors to prevent disease in communities across the world. This paper will address through descriptive epidemiology, the rising disease of obesity and will focus on the teen and adolescent population of the United States. This paper will also define and discuss the purpose of epidemiology, the methods of the science, the epidemiological triangle, and the relationship of the disease to various levels of prevention.
One of the most virulent strains of influenza in history ravaged the world and decimated the populations around the world. Present during World War I, the 1918 strain of pandemic influenza found many opportunities to spread through the war. At the time, science wasn’t advanced enough to study the virus, much less find a cure; medical personnel were helpless when it came to fighting the disease, and so the flu went on to infect millions and kill at a rate 25 times higher than the standard.
Humanity, we as a whole are all aware and cautious about obvious illnesses and viruses that spread and how to avoid catching it with the right hygiene, flu shots, health care, etc, but how do we know we won't face a deadly pandemic like the one's humanity has faced throughout history and the 1918 pandemic. These viruses move around and adapt to any living thing it can find off of. Virus pandemics have left a huge amount of people dead and ill fro symptoms they faced from a small virus that started and spread in military camps in the US. Back then no one had acquired and immunity and care compared to our medicine and flu shots against almost every known virus that can be caught. We as a society are so careless when it comes to these things,
I do not believe there will be another flu pandemic. There are now vaccines to prevent the flu. There are not as many people dying from the flu as in 1918 , there have been many test to see How the virus works. In all cases the flu has to run its course, because it is a virus. In 1918 fifity million people died from the flu, as of 2016 approximately 4000 people died of the flu statistically bringing the percentage way down. Most people in the world get vaccinate. I strongly think there will not be another pandemic because of the low rate of deaths and the help of vaccines. Science and technology has improved a lot since 1918. if you are afraid of needles they have technology you can get nasal mist. More advances in technology are improving

The flu pandemic wiped out entire families and left countless widows and orphans. Funeral parlors were so overwhelmed and bodies kept piling up. Some people had to dig their own graves for their family members. The pandemic also took its toll on the economy. Businesses were forced to shut down, basic services were hindered, and health departments also closed for business. When the flu pandemic came to an end, some people developed an immunity to the virus and those who didn’t died.
The world has experienced a total of four pandemics within the twentieth century. These pandemics, as horrific and deadly as they are, have brought so much more positive advances to our health care system and how we prepare for biological threats. Although we are in the twenty-first century and we have advanced so far in healthcare, there is still the possibility of a deadly pandemic.
