The item I chose was a PANDORA bracelet that you can personalize with charms according to your preferences and style. I have always wanted a PANDORA bracelet to tell my story through charms that represents what I like, my country and get to have all the other adorable charms that it can have, but I never bought it myself. So then my host family gave me a PANDORA bracelet last Christmas. It was one of the best presents they have ever given to me, not for its price, but for its meaningful value. They gave it to me with three charms that represents a little of me: a Brazilian flag shaped like Brazil, for I am Brazilian; a camera, for I love photography; and a purple charm, for my favorite color is purple. For my birthday, they gave me a charm of my birth stone shaped as a heart. Since I am living in the
My mom knew how much I loved Pokémon, so she entered a raffle made by a soda company in Turkey, which rewarded 50 people a Nintendo Game Boy system and a game of Pokémon Red to play with that system. Thanks to her luck, she managed to be one of the winners of that raffle. After she got the gaming system she gave it to me as a new
People who are driven by greed end up focusing on what they do not have instead of being grateful for what they do have. This is relevant in the short story “The Necklace” by Guy de Maupassant because Mathilde Loisel ends up losing everything she owns just because she lets greed drive her decisions and get the best of her. When receiving an invitation to an extravagant ball, she declines because she says she does not have anything nice to wear. In the beginning of the short story she says, “There is nothing more humiliating than looking poor in the middle of a lot of rich women.(Maupassant).” The reader sees how she puts value in possessions and what others think of her. After finding a dress and then borrowing a necklace that she thought
Around the world, values are expressed differently. Some people think that life is about the little things that make them happy. Others feel the opposite way and that expenses are the way to live. In Guy de Maupassant’s short story, “The Necklace”, he develops a character, Madame Loisel, who illustrates her different style of assessments. Madame Loisel, a beautiful woman, lives in a wonderful home with all the necessary supplies needed to live. However, she is very unhappy with her life. She feels she deserves a much more expensive and materialistic life than what she has. After pitying herself for not being the richest of her friends, she goes out and borrows a beautiful necklace from an ally. But as she
Ring, earrings and necklace in her birthstone - This is a fabulous gift for your friends in your life - birthstones are such a nice way to say ‘I’m thinking of you’ since they are so personalized to each person and their very own birthday.
As a team, the goal of this presentation is to reveal to the class, how the Necklace can relate to modern day society. In order to understand and apply the reading to modern day society, we set the event to take place in court as an exaggeration to a situation that can be solved behind closed doors. By questioning the characters in the story, each will slowly reveal how the reading is applied to our everyday lives (such as modern day mentality, christian beliefs, and moral standards between friends).
It was a couple days before my 12th birthday, and my parents called me into the living room. When I walked in they handed me a birthday card and told me to open it. I was kinda confused as to why they gave it to me early because they have never done it and when I saw what was inside I became very excited.
• How you felt while you were deciding where or how to make the gift
When people think of gifts, they often think of material items such as jewelry, perfume, or a new phone. Gifts do not have to be tangible objects but, instead, may be feelings that are shared.
When people think of gifts, they often think of something they have received from Christmas or from a birthday. One of the most special gifts I have ever received was not from a holiday or for a birthday. My most prized gift was from two little girls, Alexandria and Tatianna, in a different country. When I went to the Dominican Republic with a big group of people for a mission trip, I received three colorful bracelets from two of the sweetest girls a few days before we traveled home. These bracelets were my most prized gift for many reasons.
Thank you for your kind words regarding my grandmother; she and I were extremely close, and my brother and I spent hours with her. Sadly, she passed away a couple years ago after being sick for a while. A death like hers is so bittersweet. I watched her let go of life, but with it she let go of all the pain of her illness, and that made the loss a little easier. I inherited the ring my grandfather gave her when they were both young and my grandpa had just returned from the Korean War. They got married soon after this and I think about how young they were and wonder how they were able to remain happy for so many years. I wear the ring a lot because it’s like I own a little piece of her. After her children and grandchildren, that ring was probably the thing she loved most in this world, and I’m so thankful I get to carry it.
Really, the only presents that had value to me were the ones Bon Bon and Vinyl gave me. They came from the heart, not from the blood money of
Maupassant effectively portrays a marriage that is misunderstood through manipulation, distrust, and deception. He does this by describing each individual, the couple in relation to one another, as well as their lifestyle.
It all started in summer of 2010 when newly graduated college students Griffin and Paul traveled to Costa Rica. while they were there they meet artisans Jorge and Joaquin who were making handmade bracelets, they were living in poverty and this was their job. Griffin and Paul decided to buy some and re-sell them in America they sold out within a few days. That was when the men realized they were onto something!
A dingy, old, broken gold bracelet. That’s what anyone else would see if they saw this poor thing. Permanently open, it’s basically useless for it’s intended purpose- or any purpose other than sitting there looking pretty, really. A couple dents and scratches, with an overall dirty look to it, it’s probably the most important thing I’ve ever been gifted.
In today's world what we wear and how we present ourselves can say a lot about who we are and the stories we can tell. Without speaking a word to another person someone could decipher many things about me based on a necklace that I wear. My necklace could reveal many different aspects of who I am. it could reveal that I am close with my family. It could also be determined that I value the sentimental value over the monetary value. As a gift from my grandmother I have many personal attachments to this necklace, it will allow people to think certain things about me, and it can reveal a lot about who I am; but there are also things that it doesn't show.
