It is paramount to consider the flaws in our perspective on morality, so that we could adjust certain accepted traditions. Some groups of individuals are undisturbed by the thought of endangering animals for materialistic needs because their preconceived judgements are making them turn a blind eye towards the truth. Associated with irrational and non-scientific beliefs, the pangolin has proven to be critically endangered due to the high demand of wanting them to be consumed for an expression of high social status, used for medical purposes in China, and poached by the poor to earn money to sustain their families, which will consequently result in a future with less fertile soil and a dramatic rise in pest destruction. Pangolins share the appearance and characteristics of anteaters, with the addition of impenetrable scales. These animals’ defense mechanism is to curl up into a …show more content…
This method would have tremendous effects in areas such as Vietnam and China, where law enforcement is insufficient. The desire for wealth is evident in the quote, “...money is an irresistible temptation for poor people to poach or trap animals, especially in countries like Vietnam, where enforcement of laws against wildlife trafficking is weak and paltry” (“The Vanishing Pangolin”). This shows how since the government neglects the importance of pangolins, they don’t enforce stiff laws against the illegal trade. This allows the poorer people of the population an opportunity to commit crimes in order to make money for their families. Furthermore, by introducing stiffer laws, poachers would be discouraged to break them. Families in poverty should not be at fault, since they are just trying to make a
Hunting is a common controversial issue among people. Determining when killing an animal is necessary and ethical has mixed viewpoints. One type of hunting that generally creates feelings of animosity among people is trophy hunting. There are very few ethical theories and ideas that support trophy hunting. Trophy hunting is a form of hunting in which the hunter kills an animal with the main goal of taking a part or parts of that animal for a trophy. The majority of trophy hunting occurs in Africa, with big game as the most popular trophies, but trophy hunting also applies to non-exotic species as well. In this paper, I will start with introducing a recent incident involving the killing of a popular African lion, then outlining the main ethical issues with trophy hunting. Next I will analyze the trophy hunting from an anthropocentric, biocentric, and ecocentric viewpoint, and finally I will propose a few solutions that would make trophy hunting a more ethical activity. Trophy hunting has been said to provide many benefits to conservation and preservation of species but is ethically lacking; with some stronger laws and regulations trophy hunting has the potential to be both ethically acceptable and beneficial to the environment.
More than a million different kinds of animals inhabit the earth. The exact number is not known, for new kinds are continually being discovered. They live in the seas, from the surfaces down to the black depths where no ray of sunlight penetrates. Animals can be domesticated or left in the wild where they truly belong. However, as time passed by, nowadays, animals are endlessly being exploited and fought for around the globe. Different opinions from different countries and races have divided to defend to defend their views and make a stand. This issue about the animals’ welfare should be taken more seriously until we find the right answers.
There are eight species of pangolins and thats where they live, 4 in Africa and 4 in Asia. Their size varies from the smallest being 3.5lbs to the biggest being 73 lbs, their scales make up 20% of their body weight. Their color can go from yellow brown look or it can be dark brown. They have scales that overlap and are made from keratin, the same thing that our hair and fingernails are made out of. Small heads and jaws with no teeth makes it hard to eat so God made this animal with a long, sticky, and muscular tongue. Which is perfect for getting water, reaching down to get ant and for getting
Adaptive radiation of different organisms have occurred throughout geological time through the filling of ecological niches. Organisms different from one another are capable of radiating greatly, as they evolve traits that allow them to thrive better in their environment. The Anolis lizards of the Caribbean islands are a great example of a single genus to have radiated not once, but multiple times through very similar mechanisms. Different populations of the Anolis phenotypically vary in their morphological traits to facilitate adaptation to particular niches. These phenotypic variations have evolved in convergence in more than one occasion, as recently discovered fossil specimens show similar patterns in morphology to modern Anolis.
Two heated debates arise when considering faults in modern-day college athletics. The first is in college football whether or not a playoff system should be implemented in order to determine a definite Bowl Championship Series (BCS) Champion. This major issue in college football has been temporarily solved with the approval of a four-team playoff starting in 2014 and ending in 2025 (Dinich 1). Though it remains highly exclusive to the top four ranked teams at the end of the season, there lies an opportunity to grow its structure. Second tier, Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) expanded the playoff from 16 teams to 24 teams by giving the top eight seeds a bye in round one. The second most controversial question recurring in college
‘Animal welfare’ refers to the dominant ideology surrounding animal use in western cultures. The term assumes that humans have the right to use animals in ways that are detrimental and sometimes fatal to them; for purposes such as food, clothing or the testing of medicinal or cosmetic products; although it also stipulates that humans should acknowledge the animal’s inherent right, as a sentient creature, not to be treated with ‘unnecessary cruelty’ within those already accepted uses and behaviours.
Both in and out of philosophical circle, animals have traditionally been seen as significantly different from, and inferior to, humans because they lacked a certain intangible quality – reason, moral agency, or consciousness – that made them moral agents. Recently however, society has patently begun to move beyond this strong anthropocentric notion and has begun to reach for a more adequate set of moral categories for guiding, assessing and constraining our treatment of other animals. As a growing proportion of the populations in western countries adopts the general position of animal liberation, more and more philosophers are beginning to agree that sentient creatures are of a direct moral concern to humans, though the degree of this

Planet Earth is the one and only home for humans, and it’s their natural duty to protect it and all of its inhabitants. For many people, the fate of animals is of little importance, especially when there are so many of their own species suffering throughout the world. However, only when one has respect for nature can he or she come to appreciate for his or herself. In the past few decades, some animals have progressively come closer and closer to extinction. When compared to demographics 30 years ago, less than 5% of tiger and rhino populations remain in the wild (Congressional). The main culprits for this abominable crime against nature are avaricious poachers who seek personal gain and profit. Poaching is the illegal killing of
The matters pertaining the animal rights and their suffering for the sake of harvesting their flesh have been an issue with a variety of perspectives. Puppies, Pigs and People, a piece by Alastair Norcross, bring to question the treatment towards livestock and what is immoral about the process. The argument proclaims that since we (humans) do not require meat as part of our diet then the exploit of raising animals for consumption (humanly or not) is immoral. On a counter side of the argument, a philosopher, Carl Cohen, states in his work that animals possess no moral rights thus we have the option to eat them despite if it is immoral or not. In the case of who I believe offers the most optimum solution, I believe Cohen is the most accurate in his summation of animal’s roles in our world. I will argue that people have no obligation to abstain from eating animals, but morally speaking animals should be kept in humane living conditions in order for it to meet our obligations towards these creatures.
Many people who think that the way that we treat animals in the process of raising those for human consumption are wrong never stop, to think what they can do to stop this problem from further occurring. Furthermore, they make impassioned calls for more “humanely” raised meat. Instead to soothe their consciences they shop for “free range” meat, and eggs; which has no importance. Even if an animal is raised ‘free range” it still lives s life of pain and suffering that all ends with a butcher’s knife. Although many know that over 53 billion land animals are slaughtered each year for human utilization they still tend to eat this meat with no problem. The simple explanation is that many don’t care what happens to animals as long as they are eating and healthy. If they did care then they would what could be a difficult choice; to go without eating meat and selling it in any form.
Pangolins are scaled anteaters which originate from Africa and Southeast Asia, especially from Sumatra, Indonesia (Foley, 2014). They are special creatures which are blessed with perfect self-defense systems to survive in the wild. They do not have any potential threats in their habitats. When they feel threatened, they will roll their bodies into scale-covered balls (Goswami, 2014). Even the mighty lions and tigers will think twice before trying to attack them. However, there are no perfect living beings. They are short of people’s attentions. Compared to the other animals traded in the black markets, they are unfortunately unattractive (Davies, 2014). Most people may not even know they really do exist. They lack tigers’ elegance, rhinos’ brute force, and elephants’ charm (Sutter, 2014). Instead, they are nocturnal, mysterious, and introverted animals. This is the main reason why they are the most trafficked animals in the world nowadays (Shepherd, 2013). Human are just like death rippers for pangolins. They are killed and sold to rich people as ‘VIP Class’ foods, their scales are used for traditional medicine, their bodies are being left in rice wines as healthy drinks, and even their fetuses are consumed for sexual reasons (Sutter, 2014). They are just other victims of human’s greed and foolishness. They breed only once a year, but thousands of them are being trafficked each year (Zhang, 2014). Pangolins’ trafficking must be stopped or otherwise they
Thesis: Pangolins are one of the most trafficked in the world, many reasons is one of the most trafficked animal in the world is that it used in food, fashion and their involvement in medicine and it believed that it believed if you eat one you will be blessed with health benefits, but that is not true. Pangolins are needed to keep the population of ants low, and make sure it doesn't go up too much, 1 pangolin will eat 70 million ants a year!
Different cultures and societies have their story of how the world began. These stories vary in the process, but they all share one common theme. All of the stories begin with nothing or chaos, that is until one being creates light, time, earth and its occupants. One common thing all myths share is the role and status of women and men. In the Greek myth women were less dominant, Hindu myth women are not even mentioned, and in Cherokee myth women are shown to be inferior.
Poaching animals is defined as the “illegal hunting or capturing of wild animals mainly in areas in which hunting is forbidden” . The main difference between poaching and hunting is the legal permission, indeed “hunting is regulated by the government, and hunters must obtain permits authorizing them to kill certain animals” .
