Purpose Statement Childhood obesity is increasing worldwide. Experts estimate that 1 in 5 kids between the ages of 6 and 17 are overweight. That means that as they get older they will be more at risk for diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart related diseases. Things that we used to associate with older people are now affecting younger and younger children. There are many reasons for this rise in obesity and this paper will look at a few of them. My goal is to show a correlation between what children are doing and how it affects their chances of being obese. My data comes from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) website. They sent a survey to schools in all

This influences what foods are chosen for the meal. Fast food, takeout, quick microwave meals, etc. are the basic foods a lot of children are getting on a daily basis. The kids diet contains a lot of fat, salt, and sugar, but very few vitamins and whole, natural foods. The final data point I looked at was sugary drinks consumed at school (%SUGAR). This survey question looked at middle/high schools that offered sugary drinks. The data point consists of the percentage of schools that responded that they offered sugary drinks. These could come from the cafeteria or a vending machine. While sugary drinks alone are not a big factor, they are usually consumed along with other unhealthy items.
Data Description The data that I am using comes from the Centers for Disease Control. Every two years they send a questionnaire to schools in all 50 states. These schools then gave the questionnaires to students to fill out. Completed surveys are sent back to the CDC to be tallied. The data is then published on their website. Unfortunately, not every state sends the surveys back, or asks all the available questions. This causes some gaps in the data. For the purposes of this assignment, I excluded any state that did not have a complete set of data. This left 35 states to use for regression analysis.
Presentation and Interpretation of Results
The regression equation is:
OBESITY = 3.457 + .095 %PHYSICAL - .02 %FRUIT + .273 %FAMILY
Health has become a very popular topic in today’s society; how to lose weight, healthy body mass index, proper foods to eat to give your body nutrition, certain exercises to help lose weight here or gain muscle there, lower prices for a gym memberships, it seems to be a topic we are hearing about all the time now. However, there seems to lack of conversation about the health of the younger generation. Obesity among children is a growing problem in today’s society (Ogden, Carroll, Lawman, Fryar, Kruszon-Moran, Kit 2015).
Christianity assumes that our human nature is fundamentally and thoroughly flawed by sin, to the point where a divine miracle of grace is needed to allow us to trust Christ as Savior. Most people in Western cultures, however, do not consider themselves to be sinners and therefore feel no need for a Savior. Comment on this in the light of the detailed accounting rules and regulations intended to prevent investors from being defrauded, and the multi-billion dollar worldwide auditing profession that is intended to add credibility to financial statements.
While the schools adhere to dietary guidelines set by the government, they still use discretion on how to serve and prepare the food to children. It is at this level that a lot of improvement stands to be made. Schools offer a lot of high-energy-dense foods, which have a lot of calories in each bite. A recent study among children showed that a high-energy-dense diet is associated with a higher risk for excess body fat during childhood. Sugar drinks are the largest source of added sugar and an important contributor of calories in the diets of children in the United States. High consumption of sugar drinks has been associated
The state having to repay Medicaid may mean a cut in billable services for Nebraska DD providers. In a staff meeting at Nebraska-DHHS, DD Director Courtney Miller, “the proposed plan is to allow 35 billable hours of Day Habilitation per week instead of 40. This should save money and pay what is owed to Medicaid-CMS” (Miller, personal communication July, 2nd, 2017). However on problematic billing issue with Medicaid, the Omaha World Herald article mentions, “it’s more instability to a system that’s struggling to begin with,” said State Sen. Colby Coash of Lincoln, chairman of the Legislature’s developmental disabilities oversight committee. We really can’t afford to lose any providers” (Omaha World Herald, 2014).
States many facts that have occurred in our time related to childhood obesity. Childhood obesity has more than tripled in the past 30 years. The percentage of children aged 6–11 years in the United States who were obese increased from 7% in 1980 to nearly 20% in 2008. Similarly, the percentage of adolescents aged 12–19 years who were obese increased from 5% to 18% over the same period. In 2008, more than one third of children and adolescents were overweight or obese. The CDC defines being overweightas having excess body weight for a particular height from fat, muscle,
There absolutely needs to be some kind of solution where there is a restriction put in place when it comes to the internet exposing personal information along with online social media with juries conducting trials. Social media and the internet itself has the largest influence on why we have so many hung juries. Nowhere has the rise of the Internet posed so complex a challenge to public policy as it has to the tradition of public access to judicial processes and records. Traditionally, most court files are available to anyone willing to go to the courthouse and look at them. Many have argued that open courts are a fundamental aspect of maintaining a working democracy. Open court records produce responsibility and public confidence in the operation of the judiciary, the operation of other government agencies and the uniform enforcement of laws. Only through public access, for instance, can citizens be assured courts are fulfilling their role of protecting the rule of law. Practical barriers to information use and dissemination imposed by traditional
68 percent of students say they buy food from the cafeteria every day. Proper nutrition is tied to better academic performance. This means that kids will not do their best in school if they are fed unhealthy lunches (Black). The unhealthy lunches kids are given at school are the main contribution to childhood obesity. According to scientists, children who eat too much fat, sugar, sodium or processed food and too few vitamins and minerals are likely to develop a higher risk over time for several chronic health problems (Angela). These health problems include heart disease, and diabetes. At this time, more than ever, 55 percent of Americans are obese and 20 percent of Americans are overweight (Three Facts About School Lunches). Many schools offer healthy choices, but they did not decrease the calories in them, and they typically still offer unhealthy snack items (Three Facts About School Lunches). In a school cafeteria with both healthy and unhealthy choices offered to kids, most kids are not willing to choose the healthier choices over the unhealthy ones. So where an apple is avoided and a bag of potato chips is selected as a child’s first choice for a snack
Mental and substance use disorders account for about 7·4% of the global burden of disease (Whiteford et al., 2013). These mental disorders include various mood disorders such as major depressive disorder, anxiety disorders like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and substance use disorders such as alcohol abuse. A study analysing the results of the World Health Organization (WHO) World Mental Health (WMH) surveys found that post-traumatic stress disorder had one of the strongest associations with the lost human capital caused by individuals days out of role per year (Alonso et al., 2011). Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), as its name implies, may develop after being involved in, or witnessing traumatic events (Mind, 2017). These
Students with disabilities may exhibit and engage in maladaptive behaviors, which can impact their educational environment and learning-outcomes. More specifically, students who engage in repetitious maladaptive behaviors may be placed in more restrictive educational environments or require the need for addition educational supports, which can be deemed intrusive. Intrusive supports may include the employment of a related service independence assistance personnel. It is imperative educational organization create learning spaces that promote independence and mastery towards skill sets. When additional support is added to a student’s school environment it can potentially generate harm in relation to independence. Giangreco,
