Causes of Parent Violence in Athletics In towns across the nation youth sports is being changed by one thing, violent parents. Society today is experiencing a new phenomena in which parents of children participating in organized sport lash out at other parents, coaches and even players in youth age groups. This all can be traced to three factors; the emotional attachment of parents to their child, the financial investment throughout sports, and simply the lack of knowledge a parent has for the game and its norms. Youth sports today is becoming more violent due to the emotional attachment parents have to their kids and their relationship with them to sports. Lack of knowledge with parents in sports is one of the most difficult issues to deal with in sport today simply because parents do not know what to get mad about. Much of the remaining acts of violence are taken by parents who simply do not know the game and the acts and acceptable behaviors behind the sport. To most sport is learned through observation and example both good and bad for example in football coaches are seen yelling, screaming, and getting frustrated with other player and officials. These action are publicized by the media each and every chance they can find. To a lot of parents these actions are televised therefore viewed as acceptable in their book, when in reality the actions are frowned upon in setting for youth organized sports. Coaches in sports do not understand that their own actions are the parents rallying points due to their lack of knowledge of the sport. Parents see the actions of a coach and think they are responsible to back up their coach as a defense mechanism they too start yelling and make the situation worse. Yelling parents only make situations worse for the coaches and the team playing the game, in their minds they may be standing up for the team but they just annoy the officials and end up hurting the team and their child.
