All the books have relatively similar themes, the main one being courage. Will showed courage in many different ways and proved that courage isn't just about standing up for what's right, but sticking by it no matter the cost. This was shown well in John Flanagan's book Ranger's Apprentice The Burning Bridge. He gave many examples of courage ranging from someone standing up to the enemy, or stepping out of their comfort zone to complete a goal.
There are many examples of will showing courage throughout the book. He did this in many ways, but the biggest was putting himself in harm's way so others didn't have to. The most prevalent example of this was on the bridge. After many days of tracking a group of mongols will found out they had been building a bridge to surprise attack the kingdom, knowing that the bridge would be done shortly he decided to attack the bridge head on and destroy it. After setting the bridge on fire him and his companions were attacked. he told the people he was with ¨You get back! I'll stay and hold them off.¨ He did this with the full knowledge that him staying to hold off the attackers would mean being trapped on the opposite side of the bridge with the enemy. Although the strategy

When Will first began his journey he encountered two thieves that threatened to kill him and his friends. And even in the face of multiple people intending to do harm he remained calm and handled the situation calmly and skillfully. Even though will is well trained, he is not invincible. This was shown to him when during an attack he was knocked out and taken hostage. Even when injured and vulnerable he kept his cool and was able to calm down the other prisoners and stand up for them against the kidnappers, eventually gaining them freedom. This showed that you don't have to be in a good position to show bravery, and that bravery can be shown in even the most dark
Courage is shown by doing something selfless. Andrew received a draft form the union army, and instead of going to fight the war like a man he chickened out.
True bravery is when you’re aware that the odds are against you, however, you have the ability to persevere through it. Even though you don’t want to complete the task ahead of you, an inner force brings you the motivation to do it. Sincere courageousness doesn’t always entail violence; in fact, courage comes from the choices made within that affect yourself or those around you. The outcome may not always be to your advantage, but
In Mary Lawson’s The Other Side Of the Bridge, the proginist, Arthur Dunn faces many problems and obstacles throughout the novel, Arthur eventually overcomes his negative emotions and obstacles and comes to peace with them. Arthur overcomes his resentment and emotions towards Jake and overcomes his negative feelings towards Laura and the farm.
I believe that Harper Lee’s definition of “courage” is doing something even though you know you may lose, and it doesn’t matter if it’s physically or emotionally. Scout, Atticus and Mrs. Dubose all help explain this definition.
At least once, every person has shown an act of courage. Stepping out of their comfort zone, doing something daring and risky, and even just doing an act of unnecessary kindness to an often rude person. True kindness is easy to try and accomplish. It may be scary, but it is doable and builds character and confidence. In To Kill a Mockingbird, Scout shows courage in a fairly terrifying situation. An angry mob is trying to get past Atticus and let their rage out on Tom Robinson, but Scout steps in and attempts to stop them. She was merely a little girl, yet she faced her fears of angry adults and did something right. When true courage is shown, it builds character and confidence. It lessens the fear of doing that act again, leading to positive consequences and a bright future.
Will Hunting proves time and time again that success can be achieved through connections, rather than hard work ethic. It could be argued that will succeeded because of luck. The more like explanation for his success is due to his skin color, gender, intelligence, and connections. He demonstrates that these attributes are dominant enough to enable him to have a successful future. Whether it it's talking his way out of the courtroom or winning over Skylar in the Harvard bar, Will uses his intelligence to his advantage.
Here is one example of courage at a regular house: John’s brother Jim wanted John to steal one of his sister’s toys. John said he wouldn’t even though he knew that Jim would get mad at him. Their parents were proud of John’s decision making and was awarded. Another example of courage can be at school. Bob, who’s working with Luke on the Science Fair, told Luke to sabotage Larry and Jeff’s project so they would win. Luke thought about it, but then said no even

One should not go into battle cowardly, nor rush, but instead one should go into battles courageously, this is the advice Socrates gave to scholars. Courage can be seen as the ability to carry on, despite the presence of fear. This is supported by the views of William Slim (2004, 172) who stated that any man would want to be called brave, someone who is courageous, than be called any other virtue. He also stated that all other virtues for example: Faith, hope, etc. can only become virtues when they are exercised through courage and bravery. Situations cause people to find courage within themselves in order to complete what they went out to do, that is what happens to the characters where they need to find courage to get through the situations
According to google.com, courage is “ strength in the face of pain or grief” (google.com). I personally think that Otto Frank shows a lot of courage. Otto was the only resident of the Secret Annex to survive the concentration camps. After being released from the camp he searched for his daughters, not knowing they had already passed. When he discovered the death of his daughters he was absolutely heartbroken but continued on with his life. After finding the diary of his late daughter, Anne, he continuously attempted to publish the book and did not stop until it was published.
There must be a purpose to your action and it has to benefit the greater good. It has to be committed with pure intentions. A man who robs a bank and uses the stolen money for selfish, immoral causes is not being courageous. An honest man who takes a loaf of bread from a bakery stand in order to give the bread to his starving children is being courageous. Even though the man stole he did it for the sake of his family. His intentions were pure and therefore he was being courageous.
Courage isn’t an easy trait; in fact, it’s fascinating to see people with immense courage because people know how difficult it is to have that specific skill.
Being brave is a characteristic that is not necessarily teachable, which is why it is such an important aspect of being a hero. Towards the end of the movie, Iron Man risks his own life in order to save his friends, loved ones, and the world. Iron Man ended up intercepting a nuclear threat from the enemy, and he flew it inside of a portal, in which he disposed of it. Everybody thought he was going to die bringing it up there, due to the lax of oxygen. Iron Man was not worried about his own life, only the lives of his friends, in which case, he showed an insatiable amount of bravery. On the other hand, my dad showed bravery in a different way. My dad and I were at the mall shopping, and as we were shopping we witnessed a mentally handicapped man being picked on by young teenage boys. We watched as people would look at the boys while they bullied the man, and nobody did anything. My dad had enough of the bullying and he put a stop to the kids telling them to leave the man alone, and as he approached them they ran off. This is a strong display of bravery because it shows how some people do not want to ruin their social status by associating themselves with people who have disabilities. Bravery can be many different things, and it is a great trait for a person to
When people think of bravery, they usually think of fearless heroes in stories that will eventually defeat the antagonist at the end, but what else can bravery be? Bravery, “the quality of having or showing mental or moral strength to face danger, fear, or difficulty.” Bravery can be a driving force that control people’s thoughts and actions, and it can lead people to accomplish things that they feel challenging. There are many examples throughout history that showed people’s courageous acts to justify the society. By all means, bravery is a courageous behavior that is needed to face difficulties or challenges.
He wasn’t brave for the time when he had Sid at gunpoint. Will despised Sid for what Sid did to Will in the past, so he was about to shoot his own fellow soldier for something that happened in the past. Murray stopped him from doing this. This is how Palmer depicts the theme of bravery in Break of
