Adoption is a beautiful system that allows for families to raise a child that could have otherwise been in bad situations. These children are taken in by a family and are given a fresh start. Children can be adopted from birth until they are eighteen years old, but thousands of these children in need are not given the opportunity of adoption because of the extravagant cost. An adoption ranges anywhere from $6,000 to $50,000 and because of this Adopt Together says, “Cost is the number one reason families don’t adopt.” There is a long list of fees that rack up the price that include legal fees, home studies, agency cost, and many more. The extravagant cost of adoption can and should be lowered in order that more families can provide a loving home to children in need.
Imagine spending so much effort of trying to have a child but you can’t because through a complication in the war you became sterile. Military Veterans look towards adoption as a way to have children since combat injuries don't permit them to (Wax-Thibodeaux). Therefore, the costs of adoption are almost 40,000 dollars per child in the U.S. today (Kaminer). Furthermore, you have to think about the additional funds you need to raise the child after the adoption is complete. Within the year 2008, domestic adoption ranged from 15,000 to 30,000 dollars per child. Therefore, the government tried to help parents with the costs by creating a tax credit up to 11,700 dollars for adopting parents to claim towards financial help (Block). Along with
Did you know that if your child doesn't go to preschool your child is 25 percent more likely to drop out of school, 40 percent more likely to become a teen parent, and 70 percent more likely to be arrested for a violent crime? My aunt did not go to preschool therefore, she had to be held back in kindergarten twice because it was her first time being in a school environment, and so she didn’t know how to act or how to pay attention at the age 5, that’s just insane. She also became a teen parent, causing her to drop out of school at the age 17 so that she had to take care of her baby. All children should be required to go to preschool because it helps with brain development, child behavior development, and it can be cheaper (Five Surprising Facts
Parenting a child from infant to the adult stage is a full-time responsibility that every parent takes on. The type of style used to socialize their children to conform adequately to the expected standards of conduct to function successfully in their society is the option that is decided by each parent. Since there are different ways of parenting a child, it is the parent’s responsibility to ensure that the child’s behavior is sufficient to live in society let alone act compliant in it as well. It is interesting to observe the different methods that a variety of parents demonstrate in order to make sure that the children of that society will be considered ‘acceptable’ by the environment itself and of course by the parenting
My 16-year-old daughter Kathryn sits me down on the living room couch and somberly announces, “Dad, I have something to tell you.”
What makes a good parent? People have always tired to find out the answer, because what makes a good parent makes a good family and what makes a good family makes a good society and finally what makes a good society makes the world we live in a good one. Actually it is family where all the social ills come from. It is family that predetermines what kind of society we will have tomorrow, because the society of tomorrow will be born to and moulded in the family of today. So if we want to find out what makes a good parent and try to change the society we'll be living in we've got to start right now. So let's start.
Being a parent comes with a lot of responsibility and difficult decision making. You always have your child's best interest at heart, but sometimes your child may disagree with the rules you have set down. That is why, I believe, the perfect parenting style is democratic. You can compromise with your child, but still have basic rules you want them to follow, without them feeling targeted or that you are being unfair. When i become a parent, I want to make sure my children have guidelines. I want them to be able to make their own mistakes and learn from them. Their health, their type of entertainment and the toys they play with are three major, broad categories that I would like to have a say in, along with their input of course.
Imagine a world in which you could do anything that your heart desires. Play outside until the moon shines down? Shop for endless hours with your parents’ credit card and they wouldn’t even bat an eye? Play XBox until you couldn’t keep your eyes open? Would you agree that that would be an example of great parenting? Many may argue that good parenting is letting their children have zero limits and no rules. But, in the memoir The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls, the text explains that it is not the best parenting practice to give kids total freedom. The best practice in parenting is to actually support the children with their basic needs such as clothing, food and liquids, shelter, and limits. These are some of the practices that help make a parent good and successful.
There are many forms of parenting and as a parent myself, I am faced daily with decisions regarding my children. It's my beliefs and decision that should affect how I chose to parent them. However, in today's society how much slack are we as parents really given? We are sometimes forced into making parental decisions solely based on state laws and regulations. Parents are being held legally responsible for declining medical decisions regarding their children. Parent are also being intimidated by medical professionals for choosing not to vaccinate their children. Judges are ruling against legally fit parents for seeking second options. Parents should not be fighting the court system for medical rights. Nor should parents feel bullied by the government system. They should have the right to choose how they parent. There are many different parenting styles, who gets to dictate which is right? Not every family is the same, so why should the government be allowed to decide these rights and responsibilities. No two families share the same beliefs and religions. Parenting should not be a one size fits all. Parents should have the right to make medical and educational decisions for their children without government interference unless there is proof of neglect or abuse, because parents ultimately have their children best interest at heart.
Every year thousands of children reach the age of eighteen and are pushed out of the foster care system.3 Thousands more are still in the system with little hope of ever finding a foster family. Even though there are many organization dedicated to finding families that want to foster children, families in America wanting to adopt has decreased by almost sixty percent in the last ten years.1 California and Texas alone have almost 30,000 kids waiting for a foster family.5 Orphans are a growing problem in our society, and they will not be going away with our current system.
Raz is a 16 year old girl who was unable to make a tomato salad without my help. Was she developmentally slow? No, her mother had taught her to stay away from the kitchen so as not to get cut of burnt. She is not the only victim of helicopter parenting. When parents are too involved in the life of their children, and try too hard to protect them from reality, it can cause real harm. Helicopter parenting can result in adults who are unhappy and unprepared for life.
Child abuse is defined in many different ways, and continues to be a problem in the United States regardless of laws put in place to defend children from their abusers. People mostly think that child abuse is only physical abuse which is not true. The different types of abuse according to Childhelp.org physical abuse “is hitting, kicking, shaking a child” these are the example of physical abuse. This is about the breakdown of the different child abuse and the outcomes it has on the child life. A child life can be impact many ways for an example depression, suicidal thoughts, how it can affect them in the future life, low self-esteem, really horrible flashbacks, and not being able to trust anyone in the future Though some may argue that hitting a child is a form of discipline, Child abuse has become a major issue in today’s society and needs to be addressed.
Dr. Steve Maraboli once said, “it is never pretty when you leave an abusive and controlling relationship. The warden always protests when the prison gets shut down.” In society today, there are different forms of well-known abuse: psychological, sexual, human trafficking and physical. No child has the will strong enough to endure the physical and mental pain abuse brings. Every child needs support and someone to nurture them but there are kids who endure abuse from parents, classmates and other adults. Children who are abused will become mentally unstable, develop disorders and are traumatized, therefore there should be harsher consequences to prevent abuse.
Our life seemed to be missing something wonderful and joyous which is why we made the decision of fostering children. We were blessed with siblings, a baby girl named Elizabeth and her brother Eli who was eight years old. They were wonderful and immediately shined a light into our lives, especially with Elizabeth's wonderful radiant smile and Eli’s energetic persona. Eli is an incredibly sweet, caring boy with great compassion. Eli loves to play sports, build with legos, sing, dance, and play with his sister, but he enjoys getting to hold her and having conversations with her more. Our baby girl was healthy from the beginning. She was born at full term and weighed eight pounds and three ounces. Their sibling bond from the beginning was undeniably strong. Eli took great care of his baby sister since day one. He would not leave her side and always watched out for her. Knowing and seeing how sweet and lovable these two children are broke our hearts when we found out about their family background. We were notified that Elizabeth and Eli come from a chaotic household. Both their parents are substance abusers and have neglected their children, however, they have not physically harmed the children. Knowing Elizabeth's and Eli’s background pushed us to find a way to become their legal parents.
'You were just such a pretty young lady.' That's what he told me in a letter I've memorized without trying. My abuser collected a couple hundred years worth of charges yet is only serving fourteen years after an appeal was approved. For all of the girls he's ruined and the families he's destroyed, fourteen years just isn't a good enough consequence. About every eight minutes Child Protective Services finds evidence to a claim of child sexual abuse. (rainn.org) In this research, it is estimated that one in four girls and one in six boys under eighteen are sexually abused and more than 90% of the abusers are people the children know, love and trust. Oprah Winfrey was raped as early as nine years old and had a child at fourteen years old. Statistics show that about 60% of teen pregnancies are a result of rape. Most of these abusers don't get effective consequences or long enough sentences. A recent case that opened many eyes of the public to this issue is the Brock Turner rape. This twenty-three year old man raped a womn at his college campus and served six months in county jail with probation. This woman stated in her letter to him, 'You don't know me, but you've been inside me.' Victims are often attempted to be silenced or desensitized so the rapists often are able to be integrated back into society with restrictions that aren't safe enough for society. 'No one can talk me out of the pain he's caused.' According to ABC New on March 2, 2017, 'at least 15
