Parson’s Chameleon
Strategy is a term used in the business world when a firm has a planned process in which it wants to set out and accomplish its goals. There are numerous ‘definitions’ for strategy but each definition is different and valid in certain circumstances. Therefore, strategy is something that cannot be defined easily. However, what is clear is that strategy is used not just in the business world. Survival of a species relies heavily on strategy. For a human or an animal to survive they must grow and evolve with the world around them. A species that does not adapt with to its habitat is the species that will struggle to survive and often become extinct. The Parson’s chameleon is an example of an animal that has interpreted

Most of the chameleons live in high up in the trees out of sight of several predators.
The Parson’s chameleon is found on the eastern coast of Madagascar in one of the islands many dense tropical rainforests. The rainforests of Madagascar are known for its high canopies consisting of a dense ceiling of leaves and branches formed by the closely spaced evergreen trees. (Butler, 2013) These high canopies of dense leaves and bra2nches offer the Parson’s chameleon the perfect habitat to live with protection from ground based predators and camouflage from birds. The most common predators for chameleons are birds and tree dwelling snakes. The chameleon is also vulnerable to any land dwelling mammal should it ever take to the forest floor. The threat of new predators to the Parson’s chameleon is limited due to the fact Madagascar is over 360km from mainland Africa. The Parson’s chameleon is positioned low down on the food chain in its habitat. The chameleon feasts primarily on insects and some small vertebrates while it is hunted by birds, snakes and larger mammals. However, in spite of what may seem like a struggle to survive with the numerous predators, the Parson’s chameleon has adapted to the environment in order to see off the majority of these threats. One of the few times a Parson’s chameleon will take to the forest floor is to bury the eggs of its offspring 10-30cm below the surface. The eggs are positioned well below the surface in order to protect them from any
‘Strategy is the direction and scope of an organisation over the long term, which achieves advantage in a changing environment through it’
The Galapagos Islands consists of thirteen major islands and over a hundred smaller islands located along the Ecuadorian coast. The islands are home to a variety of unique species such as sea lions, sharks, rays, and 26 different species of native birds. Thirteen of these birds are Darwin’s finches. These finches are known to be the “world’s fastest-evolving vertebrates” due to their bodies quickly adapting to the rapidly changing environment (Robertson, N.D. , para.1). Their DNA chemical makeup causes these adaptations to occur. The finch’s most noticeable feature is their evolutionary adaptations, due to the briskly changing environments.
The existence of the Florida panther is threatened by extinction processes because their current habitat is simply too small and fragmented for
Strategy is not easily defined and furthermore the term is not exclusively related to just the business world. We can confidently say strategy is key to survival, not only in business but also in the animal kingdom. All animals under go a process of constant change in their physical appearance and in their behaviour. These changes take place over millions of years and the species that survive, do so because throughout their evolution they have perfected certain strategies that have enabled them to develop more successfully in the environment they inhabit. One such case of this successful development is the great hammerhead shark.
Strategy is a set of complicated tactics formulated by the executives of a company directed towards the achievement of company’s goal (Salmela, 2002). It is about all the path ways that a company would follow to reach its ultimate goal. It is a company’s strategy which helps to identify what it does better than the other companies in the industries, which may be different from what it does best. For successful strategy formulation and implementation, a company should know the needs of customers and should have knowledge of its competitors. Through a good strategy a company would identify that opportunity which makes it different from the others (Thompson, 2005).
The fauna in the area include small animals and medium to large birds. There is also a wide range of insects common to the area. The peppermint stick insect is especially prevalent. Cassowaries and scrub turkeys can sometimes be seen wandering the area. The rhino beetle is also a common insect to the region.
The males choose the nesting place which is ideally in a large tree near bodies of water. They live in the Black Hills but, with sites like these declining it is making it hard for the population to expand.
Living in the Atlantic Forest, Golden Lion Tamarins are essential for the survival and protection of their family, and also the existence of their ecosystem. The Golden Lion Tamarin hides under the dense canopy of the Atlantic Forest. This shelters itself from a wide array of aerial predators. These primates acquire most of its food and water from plants called epiphytes. An epiphyte is a plant that grows on another plant, without harming it. Small insects and vertebrates, that inhabit these plants, are a significant part of the Golden Lion Tamarin’s diet. Golden Lion Tamarins are diurnal, meaning that they are active only during the day. They use tree cavities and nesting holes as their sleeping quarters. These cozy tree cavities provide them
A major threat to the swift parrot population is the loss of habitat through habitat clearing. This habitat loss is caused specifically by the loss and alteration of foraging and nesting habitat through forestry activities, including firewood harvesting, and residential, industrial and agricultural development. The clearing of foraging and nesting habitat has been extensive for the past few years, which has overall reduced the available habitat for nesting and foraging for the Swift Parrot.
The weasel lemur is found living in Madagascar. They like to live in wet forests.
Overall, this short movie provides a good point of view on the situation, however, I believe that there is not a strong enough emphasis on the other threats possible like global warming, hunting or any other possible conservation issues. It is mainly focused on the wood trade and the danger concerning lemurs in this place, but usually species are not endangered just because of one cause. Global warming is a growing concern all around the world and Madagascar, being an island, could be touched even more by the sea level
Pangolins share the appearance and characteristics of anteaters, with the addition of impenetrable scales. These animals’ defense mechanism is to curl up into a
The family Carabidae, or ground beetles, contains more than 40,000 described species classified into some 86 tribes (Erwin 1985). The Carabidae, are one of the best known and most popular families of beetles (Luff 1998). Carabids emerged in the early Tertiary as wet-biotope generalists in tropical habitats, where they are one of the dominant predatory invertebrate groups (Erwin and Adis 1982). Although this group has retained an easy-to-recognize generalist body plan, their body shape and leg morphology are characteristically modified for running, digging, burrowing, climbing, and swimming (Evans 1977, 1986). Ground beetles are predators that feed on insects, other invertebrates (such as snails), and seeds. They are specialized for many modes
While on the Galápagos Islands, Darwin kept notebooks about all the species there, and he noticed the variety of tortoises on the island who were essential in explaining his theory of evolution. There are several species of tortoise present on the Galápagos Islands that are all very closely related, but slightly different. There are eleven presently surviving subspecies of Galápagos tortoises; furthermore, six of the eleven are found on different islands in the archipelago, and the other five are all found on a single island on five separate volcanoes with their own mini-ecosystems (PNAS). Although all of the species of Galápagos tortoise is different, they each have small differences that can include maximum adult size, shell shape, and the length of the neck and limbs. The tortoises of the islands are most closely related to the Chaco tortoises along the western coast of South America, and they most likely came to the Galápagos by “rafting” across the water (PNAS). Similar to the tortoises, Darwin observed that the Finches on the islands also had changed to match the environment. Spread among the islands were fourteen subspecies of finch whose
Alfred Chandler(1963) defines strategy as ‘ the determination of the long-run goals and objectives of an enterprise and the adoption of courses of action of an enterprise and the adoption of courses of action and the allocation of resources necessary for carrying out these goals’. And Michael porter(1996) sees it as ‘Competitive strategy is about being different. It means deliberately choosing different set of activities to deliver a unique mix of value’.
