Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen is set in 18th century England , where the class system was more than evident, and parties were the center of every person’s social standing. The first evidence in the novel of the level of importance of parties is the first party attended by the Bennet sisters attend during the course of the story. This party signified the introduction of the primary characters to the story, as well as the development of their foils, and provides the reader with a deeper understanding of the values of the time period.
