The process of being chosen for Future Leaders of Jones County included writing an essay and then being interviewed by a panel that oversees the Future Leaders of Jones County. In the organization, we were broken off into small groups and mixed with students from different schools around the county. I played a large role in my group— the fundraising leader. Our goal was to meet the needs of our local Battered Women’s Shelter, which were providing bedding, laundry, and a new playground for the women and their children that were also being homed. This project was very close to all of us in my group because there are so many battered and abused women in our community. In order to achieve the shelter’s wishes, we had to raise at least $1,000, so I had to go out and raise the money. With the help of many in our community, I was able to help my group reach our $1,000 goal, and we were able to go above and beyond accomplishing our project of service. After buying the necessities (pillows, sheets, blankets, detergent) for the shelter, we were able to purchase and put together a completely new play area for the children. The whole project was a success and getting to help better our community by enabling these women to stand up and get out of the situation of being abused so that they can start a new life. Seeing women like this made me realize how important it was
In order to be a volunteer, one must first realize that volunteering is a serious matter. The
Through the many trips that my family has taken to the hospital due to various reasons, I have become fond of the hospital and its many wonders. After all the things that the medical field has done for me and my family, I decided to contribute to my local hospital to volunteer and help out those who pay visits to the hospital. Through my exposure to various clinical populations, I want to improve my ability to serve others in this capacity that can guide me towards the medical profession in the future.
My own unique leadership experiences have shaped me over the years. Peer leadership and the Chick-fil-a Leadership Academy have offered me a wide variety of unique leadership experiences. I have learned so much from organizing charitable events, to teaching social skills to autistic and other special needs middle-schoolers and the ABCs and 123s to kindergartners. As a role as Varsity lacrosse captain allows me to mentor and share my experiences with other players. Last year, my advice helped a player decide not to quit the team.
From being elected as Student Council President in 8th grade to Secretary of the National Honor Society. My first year of high school was frightening to me, until I found I had a second passion which was dance. I auditioned for the varsity high school dance team and made the cut. I continued to divide my time between being committed to community service, school and sports. My devotion towards dance earned me a spot all four years and my last two years as captain of the dance team. Not to mention despite the language barrier and struggles I managed to stay on track with grades and earned a spot in high honor roll and NHS. This year I was elected as the secretary for the National Honor
In FFA, I competed in a small builds competition and fund-raised for the club. I also regularly attended meetings and helped organize events.
I have headed many activities such as organizing story time, craft building and showing kids how to help others. I worked with younger children to bring fun and exciting ideas to the table to help guide them during church activities. I was also given the opportunity to help children with volleyball and I was able to lead a small group of girls to better their skills and build trust with each other. I love taking part in these activities and having an impact on these kids lives, as a leader I hope to prove myself as a good mentor for those who need help or just someone to look up
2006- Joining Focus children organization – This was the first nonprofit organization that I ever joined. It dealt with handicap kids in developing countries. I believe that I became sensitive to co-cultures that exist in our world. It made me realize how hard it is for others to try and live and adapt to the dominant culture.
During high school I attended the 10,000 tonight food drive where many students from my school and I went door to door to collect cans for the food bank. I actively cleaned up beaches on weekends with friends. I was also member of my high school’s chapter of Amnesty International and Gay-Straight Alliance. I helped with selling books to raise funds for acid attack survivors of Iraq and Iran while in Amnesty at my school.
Running a 14-week sports program (once a week), for Belvoir children. This developed and furthered my interests with helping children in physical way rather than just cognitive. Noticing improvement in 6 months from tutoring a friends’ daughter’s younger child with her homework; this was a very uplifting and gave me more determination to teach others.
I raised money for scholarships to camp; helping hundreds of kids come to camp that would be unable to afford it otherwise. Development of a diverse staff was important to me. So I recruited, interviewed and hired central city staff to be part of camp. This involved going to their neighborhood for interviews because they had no means of getting to camp.
Being a volunteer at the UM Charles Regional Medical Center is a great way to give back your community and in a small way help society to become a better place. However, before you can become a full volunteer there are certain requirements that you will need to fulfil.
Membership within healthcare professional organizations and community service organizations can be very beneficial to one’s career within healthcare management. In this paper, I will review and analyze three healthcare professional organizations: the American Association of Healthcare Administrative Management, the Health Care Administrators Association, and the Association for Healthcare Administrative Professionals. I will identify the key characteristics that make each organization unique. Additionally, I will address the advantages and disadvantages of joining each of these organizations. In the final section, I will briefly describe the American Red Cross and discuss how volunteering within the community can help one develop essential skills necessary to excel in a career within healthcare management.
In my community many people do not understand the struggles of kids with serious illnesses and the financial and mental toll it has in the parents. To have more understanding of the problem I encourage people to volunteer at hospitals to gain more knowledge about the problem.
Hospitals are a great way for a medical student to serve the community as well as gain valuable experience in their future field. For this reason, I have spent around forty hours from the end of the summer up until now volunteering at HonorHealth hospital. I volunteered as a transporter, what this means is that I move equipment, medical documents and lab samples around the hospital. I also help discharge patients by pushing them in a wheelchair to their car. Through this experience I was able to make life easier on people who were vulnerable and trying to recover as well as the busy staff member who treated them. I had many interactions with people and by from this I have a better understanding of impact my service had. I will be discussing: How psychology can explain social interaction, how outside factors can influence a person 's sense of self, how behaviors and situations can help you understand a person, the importance of communication as well as focus, and the environment shapes the organization.
