In the Webster dictionary the definition for patriotism is: “one who loves his or her country and supports its authority and interests.” An example of it in a sentence is, “He was a great patriot who devoted his life to serving his country.” My definition of a person who is patriotic is, “a person who regards himself or herself as a defender, especially of individual rights, against presumed interference by the federal government.

On this day the U.S were as strong as ever, we were together for those horrible days. No one saw it coming. Almost 3,000 passed away and 6,000 were injured. After this horrible attack the United States changed, we were never the same, but we were stronger than ever. Also the controversy that is happening in Charlotte, North Carolina there is unity in the black community where the Black Lives Matter Movement has started after an African American man was shot dead unarmed by police who abuse their powers, the black community is coming together and is tired of all the disrespect that their community gets.

A Lot of innocent lives were lost that day. Fortunately I did make it out of the disaster and so did Johnson, and another fellow fireman. As we were sitting on the curbside reminiscing on what just occurred I saw a American Flag hanging on the side of a boat, I told Johnson to come help me go get it. And luckily Eisengrein was nearby and willing to give a hand . all three of us hung the flag in the perfect sport, on a high flagpole where everyone could see. We hung it there because we wanted it to represent us and even though something so tragic took place that we America is still standing and that we are not going anywhere no matter what is thrown our way we are all he standing strong helping one another out. I can't go back and change that day and all that happened, and there will always be a sense of remorse and regret that I will have when thinking about 9/11, but one thing I do not regret is raising that flag showing that not only myself but America is still

In particular, it was an extremely tragic day for New York City & Washington, D.C. On this Tuesday morning, at 8:45 a.m., the Unites States was attacked by terrorists. The terrorists hijacked four airplanes in mid-flight. They flew two of the planes into the twin towers at the World Trade Center in New York City (scholastic.com). The terrorists were 19 militants that were associated with the Islamic extremist group al-Qaeda, led by Osama bin Laden, from Saudi Arabia that carried out suicide attacks against targets in the U.S. A third plane hit the Pentagon just outside Washington, D.C., and the fourth plane crashed in a Pennsylvania field (history.com). However, people can choose to live in fear of that day and the prospects of something like that happening again, or they can take a step back and look at the good that came out of the event. Many people, when remembering the attacks of 9/11, look back on how they felt as the news poured through their radios and hitting their ears. But many disregard what happened later on that day and into the week to come. There were people standing around neighborhoods, in stores, and in parks consoling complete strangers. There were random people in grocery stores coming up and asking if you were okay or how you were feeling. People were definitely affected by the events but many chose to look at it as a way to help others and bring our nation closer together (almost as close as it has ever been). You’re a fireman ready at any moment for the walls to collapse, you don’t know when but what matters is the 2 men you are carrying on your back to safety. You have lost all communication but know that you are in a life and death situation, you think of your family and all the people who are counting on you to stay alive. On September 11th, 2001 terrorism struck America. This event became a nationally recognized day and remembered by all Americans. Many people and even children can tell you exactly where they were when the tragedy occurred. On this day many men and women stepped up and became heroes. September 11th, 2001 was a devastating and tragic event in the history of the United States of America by resolving all the affects America became much stronger and turned fire fighters into American heroes and left a legacy that is to be remembered for generations to come.

Loewen argues that American history texts are failing to teach students the “the bad, and the ugly” truths along with the good regarding our nation’s growth from its initial discovery and colonization by European countries seeking wealth, land, and knowledge, to the present day. Instead of learning the value of the entire truths, students are reading in their textbooks chosen by the State and Local Board of Educations the biased truth as politicians and religious leaders, all who have their own agenda to promote, want them to know. He asserts that part of this agenda is to “promote nationalism” by not encouraging critical thinking and further research by students.

In America today patriotism is very significant because unlike some countries America has a great deal of freedom. From freedom of choice, speech amongst other thing that would make someone want to be loyal and show pride in their country . Several people show their national pride in different way one of the most symbolic and respected being military service. This concept of showing national pride by serving in the military dates back to the American Revolution. The very beginning of the creation of what is now an independent and strong Nation. During the American Revolution, it is widely believed that American Soldiers willing and proudly fought to gain independence from great britain.However some historians say that this story is just a myth meaning that it was exaggerated or it just never happened . By researching and looking into the different stages of the american revolution and into the journals kept by soldiers during this period, I can be able to come to conclusion as to what I actually think about soldiers During this time period. I can be able to conclude whether or not American soldiers did really fight for patriotic reasons, if the concept of Patriotism gradually disappeared during the period of the war or if it just never existed in the first place.

Most Americans remember the hardship from the events that took place on September 11, 2001. It was a very hard time for many families; loved ones were passing or saying their last words over the phone. It was hard on more than just those people though. Through it, all heroes stepped-up and terrorists were overcome. Damage was done, but memorials were built to remember the good, not the bad. September 11, 2001, is a day that terrorists tried to bring America to its knees; however, heroes arose to act as true patriots to save hundreds of lives including Flight 93 and the Pentagon.

People who agree with a government’s actions are patriots as well – so long as their agreements are based on how they analyze what the government is doing and base their agreement on thought and not on blind obedience. For example, patriotic proponents of the war in Afghanistan base their support on the need to eliminate Al Qaeda and not on simply accepting that the war is correct because government leaders say it is. These supporters for the war are doing so because they have analyzed why American troops are fighting there and have decided that the government is right. Patriotism is based on analysis and reasoned thought, it is not based on blind obedience.

When the Founding fathers signed their names to the Declaration of Independence, they set forth a path of courage and strength for the United States. From that day on, Americans found ways to show their love for this country. Patriotism can be interpreted in different ways by different people, what makes a patriotic person is not whether they stand or kneel during the National Anthem, but how the perceive the United States and how to progress to a better future. That is what the American Flag stands for, a never-ending battle for freedom.

Although we are a very strong country, we don’t always think of things like patriotism in our daily lives. Thankfully, in my community, we are all very patriotic. If you drive past houses, many people have a flag hanging up. Every morning, from kindergarten to senior year, we say the Pledge of Allegiance together as it is read on the announcements. We have a Veterans’ Day program every November and learn about our country’s history. This is all show of Americanism as a whole.

It was a nice clear day, I was at Brooklyn’s Ladder Company getting some equipment for me and the other firefighters. While I was working I had the news on and saw that we had just been hit by a mass terrorist attack. Me and my buddies Dan McWilliams and Billy Eisengrein instantly stopped what we were doing and headed to the scene. There was mass destruction and people running and screaming. All I could think of in my head was that I needed to show these people that no matter what happens, American still stands tall. I began looking for ways to show that we can not be defeated and to boost the citizens morale.

September 11, 2001 was a very tragic day but at the same time a very heart shaping experience. The men and women who ran into burning building trying to help the helpless had great courage and personal honor. Every person that had been hurt or killed during this horrific ordeal were rescued and treated as needed. The fallen rescuers did not even think of their own lives, just the people who needed the help. The personal honor that drives a man to search for up to 18 hours straight, looking for any sign of life, honors those lost, and honors his country.
