As previously stated, my personal leadership philosophy is to be the leader you aspire to be. This leadership philosophy sets a framework for individuals to model their behavior after those that have been successful within the organization. Generally speaking, our greatest leaders have attributes and traits that have directly contributed to their successes. The key here is to understand that if you want to be a great leader in the organization, then you have to look for, identify, and model those behaviors of those ahead of you that have become successful. Take for instance a small boat coxswain. The coxswain is a position of great responsibility. There are good boat drivers and there are great boat drivers and when making a parallel to this leadership philosophy it makes sense that an up-and-coming boat driver will want to model their behavior and performance after a great boat driver; i.e. be the leader you aspire to be. The same method of mentorship and learning is true when it comes to leadership. Some leaders possess personality characteristics that naturally allow them to lead people with ease. These same leaders are made even greater when they incorporate teachable leadership principles into their leadership styles and techniques. When they utilize these techniques in their day-to-day leadership their actions may appear natural to an onlooker, but in fact leadership is a practiced art and in order to and maintain proficiency within leadership it must be continuously refined. Being a great leader is more than just watching and mimicking behavior. More then exceeding my expectations, Seussical the Musical opened on Broadway in 2000 and has since been preformed in off-Broadway settings around the country. Intricately weaving The Cat in the Hat with the various chronicles of Horton the elephant such as Horton Hears a Who and Horton Hatches an Egg, this performance exceeded my expectations. Considering it was a dinner theater in Jacksonville, Florida and that the play’s namesake came from a book my parents read to me as a toddler, my expectations were relatively low; however, the performance greatly exceeded my preconceived expectations. From the high quality of the actors to the surprisingly sophisticated plot, this play proved to be a real treat.
This text allowed me to write a summary of the novel in a way that I felt would do it justice. By using imagery I was able to create a unifying voice. This text shows how making the wrong move due to ones selfishness could eventually ruin their life and attempting to fix it would be very hard and they would have to sacrifice a lot. Hosseini has developed the essential question of choice influencing direction of life through the use of Amir. Amir sacrifices his friend for his own selfish desire to not get beat up but in the end he redeems himself by going out of his way and saving Sohrab. Hossieni has showed us how Amir not helping Hassan in the alley and Amir helping Sohrab, as an act of redemption, has changed his life.
In today’s society, there are some people who possesses the qualities of outstanding leadership. Also, in today’s society, there are some people who keep qualities of a poor leader. A good leader is someone who reads and understands their own emotions and recognize the impact on themselves and others. Another thing great leaders do is think and act with optimism, by looking at the positives and not so much on the negatives. In this style of music, the chord usage becomes lot more complex using extensions such as 9th, 11th, and 13ths but also the flatted 5ths. Improvisation has also been greatly developed. The improvers now used the underlying chords as their basis of improvisation with combination to virtuosic quick notes in a successful complex rhythm. Jam session is another important aspect in Bebop as this is where the young and old musicians informally gather together to play their own ideas of Jazz, not the standard way of the Swings.
Buckingham and Coffman (1999) suggest that good leadership comes from people who look at employees as individuals, rather than a position. Exceptional managers do not observe and critique surface level behaviors and performance. Instead, they look at inner qualities to what uniquely motivates each individual and what their innate strengths are. As a supervisor, I find this to be of the essence. Often times, employees work unhappily in positions for less than desirable pay and little to no recognition. It is, in my opinion, important to acknowledge that you value each employee as a person and you notice the work they do; they are not a disposable and replaceable position that you can fit anyone in to.

According to Smith, (2011) the ultimate goal of transformational leadership is the leader and the follower to discover meaning and purpose in relation to their work, in addition to growth and maturity. There are four I's of transformational leadership " individualized influence, inspirational motivation, individualized consideration, and intellectual stimulation" (Riggio, 2014). I have several leaders on my job. The one leader I have in my is my assistant Director of Nursing. They can “wax eloquently” on most any subject and they inspire confidence with their bond pronouncements. The issue arises when all the hyperbole does not coincide with reality and specifically, when the leader displays behavior that is inconsistent with what he or she is “preaching”. Leaders, as persons who are supposed to inspire confidence, like it or not, are held to a higher standard. If you aspire to be a “great leader,” it’s important that you “walk your talk”. Leaders are motivators, innovators, and passionate individuals. Through their hard work and personality, leaders are able to set goals for themselves to create positive change both on their own and with others. Michael Pollan, an author, food activist, journalist and professor at UC Berkeley, demonstrates and actively practices key leadership skills that I find both inspiring and thoughtful. His system thinking approach to his own personal learning, to leading others, and his approach to health promotion is what makes him an exemplary leader that Kouzes and Posner would approve of.
In order for a leader to be a leader he/she must begin with the assumption that you are the one who matters most. As a leader you have to possess that level of confidence in yourself that you are capable of leading yourself “before you can lead others”. And when you develop this belief then you are better able of affirmative influence “on others”.
Having effective leadership not only inspires employees to reach their highest potential, but furthermore it is a good confidence builder. For instance, I live by certain leadership principles of knowing myself and seeking self-improvement, being proficient at my job, making informed decisions, leading by example, motivating my subordinates and keeping my subordinates current on any potential changes. My responsibility is to provide guidance and mentorship to motivate them to be the best they can be.
Leadership is not just about the title, the position or the duration one has been in a certain office. It takes more than just that to be sufficiently effective. In our society today, there is quite a number of the so called ‘leaders’ who do not really deserve to be called by that title because they do not effectively live up to the expectations of the mandate in which they are called or trusted with.
