Assist students in calculating their Target Heart rate via the Karvonen method.
● RHR- Have students find radial pulse while in a relaxed state. Utilize stopwatch or online stopwatch so students can count accurately for 10 seconds. Have students multiply that number by 6.
● THR-
○ Subtract age from 220 (220-40= 180). This is your max heart rate.
○ Subtract your RHR from your MHR (180-65= 115). This is your Heart Rate Max reserve.
○ Multiply the workout intensity by your Max reserve and add your RHR (115*.6+65=134). 134 would be the lower end of your THR. (115*.8+65=157). 157 would be the upper end. This will account for RHR and help them reach a more accurate level of fitness.
