In my opinion I believe that peaceful resistance is a positive impact on our society. If you look at the many marches we have had in recent years, such as the woman's march held a little over a week again as well as all the recent protests involving this years election, you can see Americans expressing their opinions and beliefs for all to see.
Peaceful resistance can definitely bring danger upon the society at that given moment, or in the future. For example, two months ago in November of 2016, my neighbor Allie shared with me her story about how she was so used to running red lights in the city. The first time she did it everything went smoothly.
Surely it does not mean pleasing every person, every group, or every organization. For a peaceful resistance to positively impact a society, the oppression has to be cut at the roots. The end result of a peaceful resistance should always be justice, and should always end in an oppressed group no longer being oppressed. Which might be why there is still a peaceful, and sometimes not so peaceful, resistance to racism. What the peaceful resistance of people like Martin Luther King Jr., James Forman, and Elie Wiesel resulted in was a new knowledge to the people. The long and laborious tasks they and others fighting for equality performed led to a world where people of color could attend college, and could experience the freedom of equal opportunity. These people, these people advocating for peaceful resistance, changed the world for minority groups. As we know, minority groups make up a large part of many free societies, but have historically had very little opportunity compared to that of their oppressors. Any peaceful resistance that results in the end of oppression and the start of equal opportunity is making a positive impact that will continue to inspire change and growth within a
Peaceful resistance in the United States of America, done with the right intentions, has a positive impact of a free society. I hold this belief because as humans we can be flawed in our ways of thinking and require something to draw our attention for us to realize our flawed views. Peaceful resistance is positive because it draws attention to an issue in society, it communicates a level of civility, and it attempts to initiate a positive way of addressing issues in society.
One era in America's history that greatly shows the lasting effect that peaceful resistance can have is that of the civil rights movement in the sixties. Since our countries founding, African Americans had never been treated fairly. Prior to the signing of the Thirteenth Amendment, we had used African Americans as slaves. Even after giving them their "freedom" we still restricted what they could and couldn't do compared to the Whites that had been dominate at the time. Racial tensions continued to get worse and worse throughout the decades. Nearly a century after they were given their freedom, they were still dealing with institutionalized segregation and racism. In order to make their voices heard, they began to peacefully protest. A major event that brought attention to the issue was when Rosa Parks refused to give her seat on the bus to a white man.
The word resistance holds a negative diction in todays society. Resistance is seen as a taboo thing to many people because it means raising your voice when it is quiet and it is know that many don't like the noise. However, peaceful civil resistance has made a change throughout history. Although many feel like peaceful resistance is detrimental to a free society one cannot avoid the fact that does make a society more aware of issues pending in the country.
Does peaceful resistance to laws positively or negatively impact a free society? In your answer, incorporate the principles and specific examples (including current events) that support your conclusion.
Peaceful resistance to laws positively impacts a free society because it arouses concern and opens the eyes of law makers and others who are obliged to follow them.
Resistance can cause tension and division between people, but peaceful resistance is a pathway for those to express themselves without violence. In all honesty I think the positives trump the negatives because in the end they are fighting for what they want and what they should rightfully have. Isn't that what America has been built off of? The fight for what we want and what we know is right, while proving that is so. And for those who question "What has happened to us? Why is it necessary, at this moment, in this forum to repeat what should be axiomatic and accepted?" (Civil Disobedience: A Threat o Our Society) clearly have never faced injustice from those around them or the government. It's necessary because these people have been treated unfairly and should not let what their ancestors fought for to go to waste. People need to get out of their own heads and realize that injustice still exists, inequality still exists, the government has too much say in what happens in our lives and that is something not many see everyday. For example, my town is very safe and isolated. I've grown up never having seen violence, social prejudice, or anything unfair, which for a child is great for protection, but growing up it made me and many around me ignorant to the world and what really went down around our small bubble. I would watch the news and hear about gun violence, kidnappings, rallies, and other dangers my mind couldn't fathom. Although I'm happy to
Peaceful resistance to laws positively impact a free society because it allows people to protest laws they find unjust without harming anyone in the process. Sometimes we have disagreements with our government and that doesn’t mean that we should start a revolution and over throw the government. With peaceful resistance to the law, there is more freedom and rights given to people.
Peaceful resistance to laws positively impact a free society, because all committed acts of civil disobedience, all but in very different cases. Have shown a positive impact amongst the people by proving to everyone and the government that every U.S citizen has the freedom to fight for their rights and freedom and not let anyone disrespect their human morals.
Peaceful resistance in today's society is counted as just as bad as violent riots. As Americans with our constitutional rights should have the ability to peacefully resist anything that we find unjust but within current events it is seen as being a criminal for showing your opinion. I believe that peaceful resistance should have a positive impact on our country and that it should be seen as powerful rather than as weakness caused by the displeasure of events. As a country it is our job to take into consideration the rights and beliefs of all rather than few. For example within my own community there was a peaceful resistance or peaceful protest at our local university in which around 70 to 100 people were arrested simply for showing their
Peaceful resistance to laws positively impacts a free society because people will realize they can successfully remove or alter unjust laws by grouping up and peacefully protesting the law while at the same time, accepting their consequences. Even if it does not work for the first attempt, society knows you can always retry it a variety of times to make a widespread national big deal out of it. For example, Rosa Parks civilly disobeyed the unjust law of segregation by not removing herself from her seat for a white man. Although she didn?t
A peaceful resistance to laws positively impact the society because in the first amendment it authorizes "the right of the people peaceably to assemble". If the society were not able to protest, how would that be a free society?. Freedom of speech is the first thing a person has and can do with out being punished for. Just as Thomas Jefferson said, "If a law is unjust, a man is not only right to disobey it, he is obligated to do so". Anyone can come forward and protest for what they believe in. Many people do believe civil disobedience is wrong and causes many to hold back their own opinions or ideas, but people must remember that it is okay to do.Its positive in many ways to stand for what is right just in a peaceful manner because once it
Peaceful resistance to laws positively impacts a free society. Rather than having violent movements and harming citizens, it is better to peacefully resist. Once a violence is used, the resistance to the law becomes nulled. People tend to not follow a violence protester. Once a violent riot starts, chaos is everywhere. People forget what they are truly fighting for. They unconsciously run away with the fear of getting harmed and dare not to go back. A peaceful resistance on the other hand leads citizens to join and support. People are able to see what they are fighting for and their real intentions. They are able to stand and cause no problem to people passing by as they are showing their support through silent voices. Many famous activists and leaders are for nonviolence. Mahatma Gandhi, a primary leader of India’s independence
