“Yesterday, December 7th, 1941 - a date which will live in infamy - the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.”- President Franklin Roosevelt. President roosevelt gave this address the day after the bombing of Pearl Harbor as he declared war on Japan. The Bombing happened early morning on December 7th. 2,403 had been between every bombing while 1,178 were wounded. 18 ships had been sunk in the first round of bombs while Pearl Harbor and the base were bombed on the second round. Japan had sent six aircraft carriers which were intended to to launch 408 aircrafts. 360 were to be for attacking and 48 were planned for defense. This included Hawaii, the Philippines, Wake Island, Guam, Malaya, Thailand, Hong Kong, and the Midway. In one sweep, they could secure desperately needed resources, discourage foreign interference and cripple America’s increasing military strength in the Pacific. Pearl Harbor alone, Japan had sent 30 included the six aircrafts previously mentioned. There was a separate force of submarines tasked with sinking any american ships that were planning on trying to escape the harbor. The top secret japanese fleet set sail on November 26th 1941, and by avoiding shipping lanes, moved into position without being spotted.Shortly after 8:00 in the morning on December 7th 1941. 181 planes arrived over the island of Oahu, targeting the military airfields first. Before the U.S planes could get off the ground to defend the harbor. Hundreds of aircraft, lined up in a row like sitting ducks, were damaged or destroyed. Next the Japanese unleashed their fury against Battleship row hitting all seven ships at anchor there. As the first wave of planes departed the leader of the Japanese strike force sent back a pre-arranged message which said,
