I am currently studying to become a member of the medical field specifically, a Pediatric Nutritionist. With this profession I hope to work in a children’s hospital working with the terminally ill. I am currently studying to obtain my Bachelors in Nutritional Sciences. While there are many different professions that can be gained from getting this type of degree such as personal trainer, dietitian, and so on, I would like to specialize in pediatrics. This will allow me to achieve my ultimate goal of working in a children’s hospital such as Nemour’s. Now there are many different education requirements and certifications needed to become a nutritionist or dietitian that vary state to state. The main one that is to be focused on is Florida’s …show more content…
Getting stressed while dealing with children is a very easy way to agitate them as well or cause them discomfort. Now nutritionists do need patience, but they also need more than that. They need good organizational skills, investigative skills, and social skills. A nutritionist usually builds a rapport with their patients in order to fully help them either become healthier or to stick to a medically enforced diet. I do have good social skills and investigative skills along with the patience. I however do not have good organizational skills if it means being neat and tidy. I have my own filing system and places where things are supposed to go, but it seems more like organized chaos to …show more content…
In 5 years I will still be in school, working towards my Master’s in Nutritional Sciences while completing my 900 intern hours. With the intern hours I hope to gain one foot in the door when it comes to working in a pediatrics hospital. Now while 900 hours may seem like a high number, in reality it is only about 113 eight hour days, so about half a year. The hope is that upon completing those designated hours, I can also complete the exams needed to become a registered nutritionist in the state of Florida while still working towards my Master’s. This will allow me to work in the hospital and gain hands on experience and knowledge while completing my schooling. I will still remain in Florida, mostly because I don’t ever imagine me leaving my home state thus 5 years will most likely see me still here. Also in those 5 years I hope to settle in a good relationship or at least get a Great Dane and a
In the near future, I will graduate with my Bachelors of Science in Nursing degree from East Carolina University. Guiding my ultimate nursing goals is my love for children. As a mother already, I have learned and immensely enjoyed my journey with my six-year-old child thus far. However, I would love to expand my knowledge on the unique needs of the pediatric patient population. The pediatric patient population is very diverse, due to the various stages of life within this populace. In the near future, I hope to expand my understanding and experience with pediatric patients through becoming a registered nurse on a pediatric nursing unit within a hospital. However within ten years, my goal is to become a school nurse. This being said, there is an extensive field of knowledge and training I will need to gain in order to achieve my ultimate nursing goal of serving all children in their medical and developmental needs.
Those who find it difficult to organize sometimes find themselves struggling with simple activities, and they usually have a higher stress level. “An organized person gives a much better business impression than someone who can't find a phone number, has an office piled with cardboard boxes or is always late for appointments” (Gracia) . One action that you can take to become more organized is to plan your day to day routine. Also, there are numerous training programs and books that are catered specifically to developing these important skills. The benefits to being an organized person are numerous, and will reap great rewards in every aspect of life. In my current profession, as an administrative assistant I assist over 30 physicians. Therefore, I have to be extremely organized. It is vital that I do not keep a messy office as I would get very stressed and lose track of important information. Also, in my opinion, it does not look very professional when your office is cluttered or you always looking for things. I have a system in place to make sure my desk is free from clutter. Even though I have not yet to perfect my organization skills, I feel that continuing to develop great organization skills will allow me to be more effective and efficient in the professional world.
In order to begin my journey towards my post-secondary education, I must first finish the goal at hand which is to graduate high school. Currently, I am on course to reach my goal of graduation with a perfect unweighted 4.0 GPA. In addition, I am enrolled in my high school nursing assistant program which I will earn a certification for in June. Upon completion, I will be attending Lenoir-Rhyne University to take part in their Physician Assistant program in order to obtain my goal of becoming a Physician Assistant. I have always dreamed of having a career that will require a life-long pursuit of knowledge; medicine is constantly evolving and diseases are constantly changing, making it the perfect type of career. Due to my passion for medicine
Starting at a young age, it has been my heart’s desire to help and care for people. Due to this strong urge I find a career in the medical field most appealing. More specifically, I would like to enter the field of pediatrics because of an overwhelming want and need to
I am interested in becoming a pediatric nurse because of the connection I have with children. I have always enjoyed taking care and being around children. The joy of making a difference in the pediatric patients and their families lives is something I want
My ambition in both of the specialty groups chosen above is to enhance my education specifically in pediatrics. As for children with special health care needs, I have a significant amount of interest
The major I have chosen is nursing and the career path I would like to take in that is becoming a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. Nurse practitioners are registered nurses with an advanced educational degree and clinical experience. They provide health care to people of all ages with an emphasis on wellness through physical examinations, diagnostic screening for health disorders, vaccinations, injuries, and more. In addition, they administer complete physical exams, diagnoses and treatment instructions to the patients, while assessing the patient's symptoms along with medical history and lab test results. NP’s also write prescriptions for patients and they may consult with physicians regarding diagnosis and treatment.
A dietitian’s job is to promote health and control diseases through nutritional education. A responsibility of a dietitian or nutritionist might be advising patients on nutritional
There are types of people who are very well organized, and there are others who are not. Without a doubt, everyone has their own method to staying organized. I, for one, am organized, neat, and clean; whereas my twin [Brittany] is the complete opposite. The more I collaborate with Brittany, the more I start to notice our similarities and differences. Staying organized is a perfect method to knowing where everything is; but it can be difficult to work with Brittany in certain situations.
The research article evaluated the consumption of three major food groups, fruits, vegetables, and dairy, among low-income preschooler-aged children in the State of New York and the relation it had with nutrition education within childcare facilities. As nutrition education increased, so did the amount of vegetables and lo-fat/fat-free milk. As a result of these findings, I will make education a key component when counseling a child. Educational information should be provided to both the child and parent/caregiver, in an appropriate fashion. Information regarding macronutrients, portion sizes, MyPlate, and behavioral changes would be verbally communicated with the client. I would also provide educational handouts and reliable informational
While it may appear beneficial to keep everything perfectly organized, for messy people it's merely a hindrance when dealing with the task at hand.
When I started my college journey I wasn’t sure how, but I knew I wanted to help people. After completing a nutrition course and I was amazed by the impact that nutrition has on the human body. It was then when I decided to pursue a career in Dietetics, I wanted mycareer to be applicable to my personal life. because I wanted to study something that would be applicable to my daily life. My family has struggled with Hypertension and Diabetes for a number of years, which also motivates me to learn about disease prevention through nutrition. I am passionate about nutrition and helping others achieve a healthy lifestyle and wellbeing through a healthy well balanced diet. I enjoy being exposed to new things that can expand my knowledge (move to a
I truly believe that our future will be brighter, healthier and happier if we create and implement better evidence-based public health practices today. UTHealth School of Public Health (UTHSPH) is the ideal institution for me to continue my studies and shape my career by completing a combined Masters of Public Health and Dietetic Internship (MPH/DI). When I began my post-baccalaureate career in nutrition, I was not entirely sure of what my career path might entail. I had previously studied communication and psychology, and had several years of experience as an event planner. I ached for a more purposeful career path, and had interest in the universal application of nutrition as a daily factor in individual’s lives.
Proper nutrition is vital to promoting a healthy body and preventing disease. Nutritionists are experts in combining food science and nutrition to educate their clients on how to improve their health. A nutritionist will first carry out a wellness consultation on their client to assess their health and needs. Then they will be able to develop a plan, keeping in mind that it must be practical for the client to commit to. Nutritionists will typically follow up with clients as a way to support them through what may be a major change in their lifestyle. This also gives them the ability to track the progress of their clients and possibly make changes to their plan for greater results.
The registered dietician at the WICC department provided lots of education for the clients that I observed. She provided proper nutrition education for their age recommendation based on the MyPlate and food pyramid. She spoke at length with each client about meeting requirements and ways to include certain foods in their diets. She educated the parents on proper weight/height guideline. She provided each parents or client with educational material regarding nutrition guidelines based on age. The pamphlets were based on age starting at 1 year and went through 5 years of age. She also educated the parents of infants on proper nutrition regarding bottle, sippy cup and pacifier use. The appointments were used to give vouchers for purchase
