I plan on becoming a pediatric plastic surgeon after attending Southern Methodist University, and medical school at UNiveristy of Texas at Austin. Cleft Lips are a huge problem among newborns no matter where a doctor is in the world. They form in the wound and do not grow back together naturally so the only way to fix it is surgery. Pediatric plastic surgeons can specialize in cleft lip corrections helping many children along the way. A cleft lip, to be fixed, needs the lining of the muscles in the lip to be surgically aligned. A cleft lip can form into a cleft palate extending all the way to the roof of the mouth. There is one way to

So being able to help children born with cleft palates, deformities, and conjoinments is what I essentially want to do. I plan to major in Biology or Biochemistry, and minor in business so I can have my own practice one day. Then after undergrad, I want to go to University of Texas at Austin. After all the school I have to take, I want to do a residency still at the University of Texas in Austin to further my experience in the field. University of Texas has a very concise and fast track program that I really think would benefit me and push me to the standard that I need to be at. Eventually, my own practice is the goal and hopefully I can help children who NEED plastic surgery medically and not just superficially; and that’s why ten years from now society will appreciate plastic surgery in a different way because of my contribution. I have shadowed something plastic surgery and getting into that area of surgery would be exactly what I want to do.
Future Plan:
To get where I want to be, I have a multitude of classes that I will have to accomplish. At Southern Methodist University, I will be enrolled in the Dedman College in biological sciences and it has produced students who have moved on to Harvard Medical School. Moving on from Southern Methodist University, University of Texas in Austin is where I plan to attend graduate medical school. The UT at Austin Medical School has a partnership with Seton Healthcare which enables with them to have specialized,
My career goal is to become an Occupational Therapist and specialize in pediatrics. I want to specialize in pediatrics because I have always loved to be around children and be able to help them in whatever they need. Also, pediatrics is important to me because kids are our future and if I can help kids for their future I will be glad to do so. Helping kids become more independent on their activities of daily living makes me happy because I am helping them to become more independent and make them feel like they can accomplish anything. In order to be able to do this I have to get a Master Degree and I plan on getting this degree from Loma Linda University. In five years I see myself working in the Occupational Therapy setting and working with kids. I see myself, making others
I am currently a senior at Santa Ana Valley High School. I am planning to further my education and obtain a degree. I am certain I want to be in the medical field; I have in the medical academy for three years here at Valley and I’ve never experienced anything more amazing. Most of my classes were honor classes and a couple were AP, Advanced Placement, throughout my high school years.
My goals for the next ten years, would be to get accepted to medical school and to graduate from medical school. Specifically, my top three medical schools that I would love to go to would be Oklahoma University Medical School, University of Colorado School of Medicine, and Oklahoma State Center for Health Sciences. To be honest though my top three are the places I would absolutely love to go to, I would gladly take a medical school that would accept me. Currently my plans for a specialty in medical school is endocrinology or immunology, I love the way that the body interacts with itself and how it is able to get confused and attack itself is probably my main interest in the specialty. My goals after I graduate medical school are, working in a hospital somewhere in Oklahoma, preferably in Oklahoma City or Tulsa, and work there as a resident for a time until I would be able to open up my own private practice or join a private practice and continue my health career from there. One of the things that has become increasingly interesting with me is Doctors Without Borders, which may end up being something that I would participate in after medical school during my residency or around the time that I would join a private practice.
It wasn’t until previously from watching Grey’s Anatomy and Nip/Tuck that I realized I want to become a pediatric neurosurgeon. The fact that I would be able to help children while still focusing on the most precious parts of the body, the brain and spinal cord, really made me want to work harder in everything I do. I would be able to gain skills like patience and precision which I never had as a child would help me to mature into a better person as well as surgeon because the amount of accuracy I would search for in everything I
As a medical school graduate from the University of Washington in St.Louis with a keen passion for speciating the human race, I believe that the subject matter of medicine is the next ‘big thing’ and I want to be present when it changes its state of importance. I have acquired many qualifications and skills many of which you desire for the Harvard Plastic Surgeon Residency Program. My medical competency includes Designing skin grafts or creating a flap grafts, transferring tissue from one part of the body to
My goal is to become a neurosurgeon. I want to be a neurosurgeon because of my complete and utter fascination with complex systems like the brain. The idea of mere hormonal signals turning neurons off and on creating as powerful a system as the brain is completely and utterly fascinating to me. There are very few things in this universe that can come to par with the complexity of our minds, and that tickles me to the core. In order to achieve this goal I plan on attending FSW for my AA degree to get my foot into the door of college. After that I will move on to some of the larger universities which specific one is still undecided. When I am done with those I will transfer into medical school and begin my training in the field of
I think the UMKC (University of Missouri - Kansas City) School of Medicine is the right school for me. It has a lot of classes that I can take for medicine. There is only one thing left that I have to do for College at UMKC is that I need my CNA license so that I can help at the Nursing Home in Rockville, Indiana. The University of Missouri-Kansas City has many different offerings to incoming freshman and upperclassmen, from a numerous amount of educational degrees and scholarships to a number of other factors for people to take into consideration when choosing a college best fit to them. An oral and maxillofacial surgeon performs oral and facial surgeries to treat diseases, injuries, or defects in the mouth and lower face region. Similar to dental hygienists and ophthalmologists, oral and maxillofacial surgeons have to be trained and taught well in order to succeed in their line of work. I plan on going to the Medical University of South Carolina to be educated, and then eventually become a surgeon. Oral and maxillofacial surgeons achieve the American dream with strenuous years of education, training, and lots of surgeries, which is what I plan on obtaining as I independently take on the real world.
My decision to pursue a graduate degree at the University of South Florida is not only because it offers flexibility needed in my everyday life, but also the perfect program I would excel in. I have done research on schools that off the best quality of education in Healthcare Informatics, and your prestigious institution has received critical acclaim for your excellence in specializing in research and medical. The University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine is par excellence, and I would be honored to be part of the USF family!
My name is Swathi Murthy and I am a senior at Olentangy Liberty High School and will be graduating in 2016. If you went through cleft lip repair when you were a child and teenager, then you may remember it being a long process involving
In any case the molding does not work as properly as it should the cleft lip or palate may require surgery, but will require drastically less surgeries that a baby that did not use the brace to help mold the lips. For a child who has a cleft lip they prefer that the surgery is done between the age of 6 weeks and 1 year. For children who are born with a cleft palate they prefer that the surgery take place between the ages of 6 months and 18 months. Due to children being very resilient and able to heal quickly it is better that the surgeries get done before they are a lot older and have a lot more
The procedures performed at Merrick Plastic Surgery include tummy tucks, face lifts, breast augmentations, and scar revisions.
Cleft lip and cleft palate are abnormal deformities that develop before the embryo is born from the mother’s womb. Cleft lip is considered a gap in the skin of the upper lip, and a cleft palate is an opening in the roof of the mouth, which in certain occasions can also affect other areas of the face in newborns. Such areas are the nose, ears, forehead and eyes. Clefts deformities can be identified through prenatal ultrasounds on unborn babies. In those newborn infants they can be seen once baby is born. A physical exam can diagnose the Orofacial malformations. According to present studies, these Orofacial malformations are the second most common birth defect recorded in live births. Cleft lips, with or without palate, are defects that are separated into groups such as, cleft lip, and cleft lip with cleft palate, but are studied as an individual group since they commonly share similar pathogenesis. According to Genisca, it was stated that these Orofacial malformations in newborns are completely unrelated to other major birth malfunctions or any genetical disorders. These malformations can attribute to different factors such as, race or gender of the babies, and mothers age at the time of delivery. Genisca states that, “Previous work has consistently shown a lower birth prevalence of Orofacial clefts among non-Hispanic Blacks, compared to non-Hispanic Whites. (Genisca 2009, 1) Also, another important fact that was revealed in one study was an association between Orofacial
The percentage of facial defects on a child born has been increasing in The United States. Every four minutes a woman gives birth a child with handicap. Children with Dow Syndrome and other birth defects such as cleft lip and ear abnormalities are been propose to submit in to a surgery to alter their physical features. The surgery´s target is to improve and restored their appearance making the child accepted by the society. The surgery it’s been existing for centuries, and the surgeons have been improving their methods. They have been adding tools and techniques in the over past few decades which is awesome for some people who really needs a surgery for their body function. However, in the beginning people have the doubt in the improvement of the potential and psychological of the individual. The cosmetic surgery that has been realizing on children with Dow Syndrome may improve their physical appearance, but it will not improve their potential, nor improve their development psychological. There still the same. The statistics on children submitting to a surgery it’s been increasing in US in the las decade. The procedure of this method is painful and costly. The cost of a surgery is high. The health insurance will cover the cost depending on what kind of surgery will be subjected. Parents should be informed and be concern before taking a decision of submitting their child to surgery. It is not the right choice
