I hope to be remembered as a someone who never backed down from the task at hand, therefore, making me a strong, feminist role model for future generations. I want to leave this world knowing that I have inspired many more strong women to enter the medical field.
Although there are many more women entering into the field of medicine- specifically pediatrics- than there were many years ago, there are still too many times when a patient will hold a male doctor’s opinion to a higher standard than he would to a female doctor’s opinion. I hope that my influence in the world of pediatrics will pave the way for future female doctors to be treated with the same courtesy as a male doctor.
However, although I do want pave the way for future female doctors,
One of the defining moments of shadowing a Pediatrician was when he asked the patient’s mother to describe a certain set of symptoms her child was experiencing. The mother stated that her child was experiencing
Since we teach students from diverse backgrounds, I hope to gain insight on the understanding of the general population regarding the various topics in medicine, which will enable me to not only to educate these students regarding any false information or gaps in information they may have, but also learn of the common misconceptions in our community, so that I may be able to effectively educate my patients and their families in the future. All in all, I look forward to investing my time and talents in the mini-med program that aims to provide medical education to the next generation of citizens in our
I feel that the world will always need people in the medical field. I want to discover cures, medicine, and ways to improve the quality of life. I want to be apart of a major breakthrough and reveal new things no one thought would be possible for a long time. I would love to see several changes in medicine and the field such as the prevention of diseases, making the public more aware of fatalities that can occur, and most of all to give people and animals a life that is enjoyable which people in the medical profession are entitled to do everything possible to make that
Elizabeth Blackwell not only saved many people’s lives but also broke the gender barrier in the medical field. She successfully established the Women’s Medical College and trained generations of women physicians. She also challenged and encouraged other doctors to provide medical service to the poor. Elizabeth Blackwell was born on February 3, 1821, in Bristol England. Her father believed that women should be equally educated as men, so he provided Elizabeth and her sisters excellent education. Elizabeth moved to America with her family when she was 11, in 1832. She first began teaching in a boarding school that her sisters founded, but later she decided to apply for medical school. She was rejected by Harvard, Yale, and other schools, and
Every ailment presents differently in every patient, because of this Doctors have to be able to critically think their ways through the process. The only difference is that the end result is a treatment plan, as opposed to a thesis, that they must be able to support. This becomes difficult when the patient is unable to articulate what is bothering them. Because of this talking to children in the medical field is very different from talking to adults. It is much harder to determine what is wrong with a child because it is harder for them to articulate how they feel.
I am writing this letter to give my highest recommendation of Ms. Shari Allen for admission to the school of medicine’s physician assistant program. I have had the opportunity of working closely with Shari in my clinical practice of Pediatrics as a preceptor for the greater part of three months in 2009. During her time as a mentee, Shari has demonstrated a strong interest in becoming a future practitioner in medicine by her drive to learn basic sciences, her curiosity for medicine and her ability to learn quickly, which makes her an outstanding candidate for the program.
It is extremely important for everyone to give back to their communities and I hope I can inspire others to continue their own dreams of being successful. When I become a family physician, I will be able to help many different people and advise them on how to live a healthy life. As one of Jordan’s valedictorians this year, I know how important school is and have always worked diligently to get to where I am today. I am determined and will always continue to push myself to achieve my goals. I never give up and am able to learn from my failures in order to grow and succeed. I have always loved helping others and know that I will continue striving to provide the best care possible wherever I work. I will continue working tirelessly when I am at CSU Long Beach because I know college will be more challenging than high school, but I will not let that stop me from being successful. I am going to try my best to graduate with honors because I know I have the potential in me to accomplish that goal. Family is extremely important to me and I do hope to someday get married and have a family of my own, but I know that can wait until after I accomplish my career
With my educational background and gained experience in the field, I will have a greater knowledge about my career choice which ultimately will help me live up to my full potential. My desire to be successful in my field of medical is what drives me to attend college, and later grad school. Whether you are the bearer of bad news or good news, I believe you can make a lasting impression on someone’s heart. I want to be that person.
Going through my education, I have acquired various skills to assist me on the road to becoming a physician. Devoting hundreds of hours to volunteering and shadowing in a hospital setting has given me a basic understanding of the care and patience required by physicians. In particular, shadowing a pediatrician helped me develop the ability of observation and acute attention to detail. I was given the opportunity to participate and interact with the patients and attempt to form my own diagnosis based on the given symptoms. Having the opportunity to input my own opinion and discussing the patient’s medical history with the physician assisted me in cultivating necessary characteristics such as versatility and keen intuition
An individual had to do hard work and achieve certain goals in order to be known as successful. As a biology premed major, I aspire to be a doctor. In order to pursue my medical career, I would like to be as precise, pleasant, and determined like Dr. Lopez, Dr. Miami, and Dr. Sandra Lee.
However, this was not Dr. Beermans last fight with sexism. During her emergency medicine rotation, her and other students were asked if they had ever done a central line procedure (Berman 2014, 395). To her astonishment most of the males raised their hands while none of the women did (Berman 2014, 395). Doctors were preferentially selecting males to teach and perform procedures because women were just there to watch (Berman 2014, 396). At the time when only twenty-five percent of her class was female, and no women had been taught a procedure that almost all the men had been was unfair. This extreme bias in medical education showed just how sexist medical schools were, and how unfair it was to its female students. The most egregious act of sexism was her experience with Georgetown’s apathy toward the female feminism group. These women were being subjected to hate mail, rape threats, and hostile phone calls (Berman 2014, 395). The Georgetown dean refused look for the perpetrator until the women got help from a women faculty member, and even then, all they did was install hidden cameras across from the school mailboxes (Berman 2014, 395). Not surprisingly the assailant was never caught (Berman 2014, 395). This incident of institutional-sexism sadly is not limited to Georgetown, but other medical schools suffer, as well as other social institutions.
In the future, I will strive to care for my patients as I would want someone to care for my family, and to never forget what drove me to become a nurse in the first place. I will be that person who will help others realize their strengths and capabilities. To me, nursing is a vocation that requires passion, integrity, and a natural drive to serving others. In or out of the hospital, I believe in showing everyone kindness. I plan on earning a bachelor’s in nursing then continuing on to attain a master’s degree and become a nurse practitioner, specializing in Neonatology or
I will have the opportunity to save lives and give patients the value of life back. This is why I aimed toward surgery more than any other field in science. It amazed me that I could change someone's entire life in just one or two procedures and I began to really look forward to my future in this field. The thought of telling a family that their loved one is going to live a long life will make all of my hard work pay
Mary Donaldson – the woman that ignited the fire, for her honest opinion for Elizabeth Blackwell to study was what resulted in Blackwell to be the first female to graduate with an M.D. Donaldson, diagnosed with cancer, had the impression that examinations and treatments performed by a female doctor were less troublesome in comparison to appointments done by a male doctor. Although suggested, Blackwell, who had a fervor for studying, confronted the animosity from society, included that women who studied medicine were deceitful and nefarious. Despite the unsettling stereotypes, Blackwell was still accepted into The Geneva Medical College, a school that did not wave Blackwell a crude goodbye only because the faculty presumed Blackwell’s application
I hope to possibly work for a sports team and or be employed at Kaiser as a sports or shoulder and ankle specialist. I have seen so many sports specialist, but every time I pay a visit I am fascinated with all the certain types of specialty doctors have. I want to be different from some doctors though. Instead of calling me Dr. Thai I would want people to address me as just Jason, for the reason I believe that titles create barriers. Ultimately, my biggest goal would to one day travel the world to third world countries to provide help to those in need. With the knowledge obtained from college, I could work with others to make the lives of other abroad a life worth living. I am not pursuing this career for the money, but for the reason that I may help those who may not even be able to afford doctors. My aspirations now were shaped by my favorite aunt. My aunt was a dentist who sacrificed time with her family to take care of mine. She would give everything to see my family happy. I remember she sang the song "My Heart Will Go On" as I played the song on my trumpet. She passed away a couple years ago, and I was unable to thank her for all she has done. When it is finally my turn to join her, I can finally tell her thank you. Her heart truly did go on, and I am ready to work hard to achieve my goals. For now I make progress day by
