By definition, peer pressure is described as social pressure by members of one’s peer group to take a certain action, adopt certain values, or otherwise confirm in order to be accepted. Considering peer pressure is something that everyone experiences, whether they wish to admit it or not, there are numerous definitions for it; especially since it affects everyone so differently.
Examples of this are everywhere, like movies or books. In the movie The Breakfast Club there's a character for every clique you'd usually see in a high school, which is where the setting of the movie takes place. In this movie, an overprotective dad takes it a little too far when he finds out that his son’s first day of school is a field trip to the drop off. He swims after his son, Nemo, to get him and keep him safe. However, when Marlin, Nemo’s dad, gets there he freaks out completely. After arguing with his son about it, Nemo swims off and is under “the butt” which is known to us as a boat. Tempting his father, Nemo touched “the butt” and does that because his friends didn't think he had it in him. Nemo was peer pressured into touching the butt by his friends which caused him to be captured in the end. Peer pressure doesn't end in happy endings for most people. Influence from one’s peer group is another definition of peer pressure. A person’s group will always influence them but that's why people always say choose your friends carefully. Most people deal with peer pressure by giving into it or just not listening to their peers at all and doing their own thing.
Peer pressure is a bit of a problem more because of things like social media and the generation and how they're being taught to go about it. It affects people differently every time it happens, which goes along with the reason there are so many different definitions for it according to different people.
