Peer tutoring is beneficial for both the tutor and the student with learning difficulties. In teaching students with learning difficulties the tutor is reinforcing and enhancing their own understanding of the material. If the tutor is familiar with a concept but is not sure about it then they can ask the teacher, augmenting the information for them both. Teaching their peer is also a great way for them to learn how to teach. Tutoring allows them to work on their communication skills and builds their confidence. The student with learning difficulties benefits from peer tutoring in that they often feel more comfortable receiving instruction from their peer than from their actual teacher. This added comfort helps them concentrate on the material
Being a part of my school’s peer tutoring program has been the most gratifying experience of my high school career. As a student, I can relate to those that struggle in a subject and are unable to connect with the material being taught in class. I have worked with students who have lost confidence in themselves because of the difficulty they were having in school. To be given the opportunity to assist students to reach their academic goals is fulfilling. As a peer tutor, I edit essays, share scholarship searches, assist with homework, and provide studying tips and test taking strategies. I enjoy working with my group to develop habits to be more successful. With each higher grade earned, test anxiety relieved, and confident smile of those that I help, I know that the work I am doing is
Peer support in the mental health field is described as the support and help that people who are affected by mental illness or a learning disability are able to share with each other (Peer Support, 2015). Peer support also shows the person who is affected that they are not alone. One example of peer support is peer education. Peer education is explained as educating peers on things like how to cope with their illness (Peer Support, 2015). An example of peer education in mental health would be a small group of peers who are similar in age, background, and status coming together to deliver and share material on mental illnesses (Peer Support, 2015). Peer tutoring is another example of peer support which occurs within the mental health field. Peer tutoring is described as aiding a peer with their social and academic learning (Peer Support, 2015). An example of peer tutoring is helping a peer who suffers from mental illness to improve on their English and grammar.
I learned that this student is getting about six hours of sleep. There is a lot of controversy of amount of sleep students need. However, six hours of sleep is enough for the student, because she is awake throughout the class time. The student is on a good diet because she eats breakfast by arriving early to school. She is very determined to pass this class with a good grade. She always comes in for the tutoring session during lunch and after school. Therefore, I will be able to provide her with additional support and one to one tutoring during lunch or after
I was advised that there is a great need for the position of PEER Instructional Assistant.I am DREAMer This means I recently got the privileged to work. At this moment I'm A sophomore at Phoenix College; with a major in nursing.
Peer tutoring, is simply helping your peers to the best of your ability, with a subject that they are struggling with or just want justification on. I personally have been tutoring others since I was in seventh grade when I began helping elementary school aged children with their homework after school at a community center near my middle school. Tutoring became a newly found passion of mine at that time, and I have enjoyed the opportunity ever since. When I saw that Antioch offered tutoring as a senior class, I was ecstatic, and I signed up immediately. If I am not mistaken, similar to signing up for service learning, one must have a teacher recommendation to take this particular course. There may be other guidelines that I am not aware of at the time, but believe me, taking peer tutoring is well worth it. As a senior, you have to worry about applying to colleges or jobs, applying for scholarships, getting community service hours, working, finishing your capstone project, taking senior pictures, making invitations and announcements, finding internships, and so much
Students struggling would have tutoring available for them. Students who want to have good grades and need help will end up having better grades from tutoring. If students who usually have good grades - because they want them for college or their parents would be upset if they did not get good grades - are struggling in a class and need extra tutoring to receive a better grade, than tutoring would help them with that. Students struggling who need help with understanding the subject could get help from tutoring. If a student is struggling in class because they are not understanding it well, then tutoring would help them with their struggles. Students struggling in school who receive tutoring and want to apply themselves will get the outcome they want. If a student is struggling in school and want to
By using the artwork of the fantastic four (John Haward 2001) Appendix 1, I will explore how a team is different from a group. For this I will describe an award given to me as part of a team while working in a nurse led minor injury unit (MIU). By comparing the differences I shall highlight what makes a team effective rather than a collection of people.
This tool would address MP’s LD because peer instruction allows students to discuss problems in a low-risk setting, thus relieving the student’s anxiety. It allows MP to explain her thinking by sharing
Last school year, three of my peers and I decided that our high school needed a peer-tutoring club, so the last few months of my junior year and the first few weeks of my senior year were dedicated to starting this organization. We organized the structure and goals of the club, and presented our ideas to the administrators. Once we got our approval, we immediately began planning lessons. Two days a week we meet with groups of students that come to us for help on improving their ACT scores or general grades. Our service is open to any and every student. We have tutored students in dual-enrollment courses and in standard academic classes.
First and foremost, I think it is a wonderful idea to gain the perspective of your students and hear how each students experience was throughout the essay process. The most challenging aspect of writing this essay is writing about something you are not interested in writing about. I anticipate getting a good passing grade in this class, because I do believe I deserve it. I do a lot of drafting before I actually write the essay. Peer Mark definitely helped me with my own writing by both reviewing their writing and hearing the suggestions from my classmates. There was only one issue I had using Peer Mark. The icon was deceiving and unclear on where I needed to insert a comma. The icon that inserts a comment is so big that it looks like the error
To serve my high school using my leadership skills I decided to volunteer at my school to help tutor my classmen. It wasn't anything I expected, my first thought of helping my classmen that needed tutoring were either trouble makers or slackers. When I got there I noticed most the kids there just needed help understanding the criteria and studying it. As a result I gain some perspective of learning pace of others.
I am a learner who has the desire to continuously improve myself and my peers. I am energized by the thrill of the first few facts, the early efforts to recite or practice what I have learned, and the growing confidence of a skill mastered. Peers CARE has allowed me to flourish from our trainings and the opportunity to practice in our programs. The assembly will allow me to grow my confidence of mastering the roles of a peer educator and student health topics.
The need for tutors is overwhelming. Tutors help fill the gap between the teachers and the students. With so many students in each classroom, the teacher can't give each student the one-on-one attention that some students need. This is where tutors come in to play. Tutors have been a key instrument ineducation since as far back as the 1500's (Gordon 9). Tutoring is almost as old as educating children. Tutoring younger students is also still going strong in the twentieth century. Today it is more~important than ever due to the increase in students and low budgets that some schools have. As stated by Edward E. Gordon in his book, Centuries of Tutoring" Schoolinghas dominated the twentieth century, but tutoring still holds an important
I think Peer education on college campuses is beneficial because it is very important for college students to learn about health information that they are not aware of. Nowadays not everyone is aware of increasing health problems and physical safety. The peer education on college campus can teach us so many things that we didn’t learn in school or from our parents. Peer education is a great way to learn about sexual behavior, drugs, abuse, alcohol, personal safety and overall mental and physical health. I believe peer education is a great way of motivation to college students because we can gain knowledge about making healthy choices, we can develop our values, beliefs and can embrace new skills and can be responsible for our own health. I
Peer Tutoring has been shown an effective learning strategy and innovate solution in multidisciplinary classroom structures. As teachers seek productive methods to incorporate meaningful learning and maintain efficient time management in the classroom, peer tutoring has been implemented as an effective option. Through the process of peer tutoring, the tutor and the tutee both gain individualized skills, immediate performance feedback, continuous progress monitoring, increased peer relationships and self-esteem improvement. With such a strong record of effectiveness, this study proposes an examination of the effectiveness of peer
