There are many different thoughts that people have on kids using electronics. People either don’t mind their kids using things like phones or tablets, but there is also a very large amount of people that disagree and limit the use of electronics for their kids. There are many different reasons why people feel the way they do. Both sides make very valid points to support their side, but I see nothing wrong with kids using electronics in their lives. There are going to be many different times when kids are going to need to use electronic devises in their life, so they should learn the different skills while they are young.
There are many different views on this topic and one of the biggest reasons why parents don’t want their kids using electronics is because they want their kids to be playing and be active. Whether kids are playing inside building forts or outside playing hide and go seek, parents want to see their kids running around and having fun. They want to see their kids be creative and come up with different things they can do to keep themselves occupied just like they did when they were kids! Children six to eleven years old obesity rates in 1980 were seven percent and have risen to eighteen percent in 2012 (cdc.gov). That is a huge increase in obesity and the numbers are only getting bigger and bigger every year. One way to help lower the obesity rate would be by making sure kids are doing activities that involve physical activity. Kids should be playing outside
We all know that’s wrong. They spend seven hours a day on electronics! that does not include school activities. You can't do your homework and watch TV. Most kids get obese or don't do any physical activities.if they are on an a screen for more than 2 hours a day they get obese. When little kids get obese at a young age it is hard to do normal stuff when they are older according to tunedinparents
It isn’t that simple. The playdate dynamic has shifted from making forts and riding scooters up and down the street to sitting indoors playing games on various devices. The rise in technology correlates with the rise in obesity. In a society where it is considered normal for elementary school students to own an iPad, it is easy to see how the rates jumped up from 15 to 20 percent in a two year span. How can childhood obesity be controlled? The way I see it, it can’t. The last thing any parent wants to do is strip their child of their innocence by making them conscious of their weight. You can’t simply take away one kid’s Nintendo either because then he is left out of the group. Adults must choose the path for their offspring. Which is the worst option, a physically unfit child or an alienated one?
Technology is one of the most harmful factors contributing to childhood obesity.Video games are one of the major factors of technology that affect childhood obesity in a tremendous way. “Unlike playing on a playground, playing at the park or playing a sport, playing a videogame is largely passive for most children” (Loop, 2015). The children do not complain about video games like the way they complain about going outside. Children have gotten so use to video games that they rather play soccer on a video game, then real life. The change is so fast that parents do not seem to even notice when the child does not want to even go outside and play anymore. However, computers are also contributors towards childhood
Technology is more advanced every day and seems to be a major reason why kids stop going out for a run or being involved in activities burning off calories and energy. Research informs that a child in America spends 7 hours or more in front of an electronic device. Also according to a review in Obesity in 2012 a lot of screen time may increase obesity risk. Over time technology and an increase in snacks combined will lead to a significant weight gain.
Having the luxury of technology like as TVs, laptops, and video games is another cause of childhood obesity.
Many kids now are to electronically smart and attached to their electronics soon if parents don’t take action more of our children will become obese along with developing the problems that come along with being obese. According to the American Diabetes Association 14.7 or 3.7million of All African Americans ages 20 years or older have diabetes: 20-80% of African American males have or will develop diabetes, those with type 2 diabetes 80-90% are obese.
In this paper I will address why technology has a direct correlation with the soaring childhood obesity rate in our society. In the fast past sedentary lifestyles we live today make technology such an efficient way to get things done. Although technology has it perks and has made a remarkable contribution to our society, it is often overlooked that it is negatively affecting our health. For parents, it seems easiest to just give your child a phone or computer to play on to keep them occupied. What parents aren’t realizing by doing so is that that is a
It is being used to replace activities that would usually require you to get up and get some physical activity. For example; it is replacing children's play time as well as taking away the need to go to the shops, this is reducing physical activity. Currently the average child spends seven hours on technology every single day. (Elle Paula, 2015). The major decrease in physical activity and the increase in time spent on technology has resulted in an increase in snacking, this is called mindless eating. More calories being put into children's bodies should result in an increase in physical activity however, this is not the case. Physical activity is being ignored and becomes deemed unnecessary when technology is available. This results in overweight and obese children which then significantly increases the amount of children at risk of developing diabetes type two. Fast food is almost always available, the amount of fast food restaurants is increasing rapidly. The digital age is changing the world in negative ways not visible to
As a mother of two, I feel electrionics are great, to an extent. My three year old learns tremendously well using her own hands and viewing things in a fun, exciting way. Although, time spent on the electrionics should definitely be limited and observed. Children need an outdoor play interaction, parent one on one interaction, and self interaction just as much as anything else educational . It's our job, as parents, to make sure we schedule and set expectations for our children. If we fail to be the example, it is our fault not the childs. That is why I feel it is ethical to take caution in how much electronics are used but not completely throwing them away.
Childhood obesity starts at home. In many households today the television and the computer is a child’s best friend. Technology is one of the causes that contributes to children being obese. At a young age kids tend to spend most of their entire day using technology. When children sit in front of the TV, they are most likely to see, the broadcasting and advertising of fast foods. Nowadays, fast foods have gotten better in encouraging people to eat their foods. One is now able to order their food using phones and the television. Children are exposed to thousands of commercial every day. People who spend half of their day watching TV, have a higher risk of having obesity. One of the issues with this is the parent allow their child to sit and
I disagree with this article because kids at age 6 – to 8 shouldn’t be on their iPod and tablets all day. They should be outside playing with family and friends making memories. When kids at this age have accuses to “Small Screen devices”, they wouldn’t want to do anything else, but be glued to their iPods and tablets. Once you give them an iPod, they would never get rid of it. I feel like letting young kids have their own electronic device it would affect them being a kid, I don’t think that should be taken away from them. Moreover, I don’t think children shouldn’t have accuses to technology, because the violent that are on the media can cause aggression for children.
In this article it discusses how things like technology have an impact on childhood obesity. It is true children eat a lot today and it is usually not healthy foods like green beans, corn, etc. With today’s busy life children tend to consume fast foods which are filled with unhealthy calories. In addition children spend time in front of TV playing video games, watching TV or watching movies instead of going outside and playing and running around. The consequences for children can range from being bullied to having low self-esteem because they don’t like the way they look due to their overweight. Unless something is done then obesity will carry over from childhood into adult hood. This article is not surprising in some of the other classes it has mentioned how much technology has cut down on the exercise children due.
To prove this, it says on http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1491292/Computers-and-TV-not-to-blame-for-child-obesity.html, “Evidence shows that kids who use technology the most are actually more likely, not less likely, to be physically active," This shows my point because people who use technology the most, don’t spend their time on exercising, they spend more time on technology. Plus, if you don’t receive a lot of exercise, you won’t be burning all the calories from the food you eat, which will put you more in danger of obesity. Another example to prove this is on http://www.dailyrepublic.com/opinion/localopinioncolumnists/is-technology-to-blame-for-childhood-obesity/ , “Technology has even affected other healthy childhood activities. Today, skateboards and scooters are motorized. Even the ever-popular Big Wheel has been replaced by the
Many places in society are setting policies on digital device. The principal at my school has also set policies on banning cell phones in school. Students should not be permitted to use cell phones in school. Using cell phones during school allows students to cheat. Students will be more distracted by cell phones and pay less attention to the teacher and to the lesson. Students have a higher chance of getting in trouble if they use cell phones in school rather than if they are not allowed to use digital devices in school.
A second argument is that, do children those that are under age of 10 necessarily have to own a device? How is it even right for children to use electronics at their age? Whenever am outside and when I pass by kids using electronics, their little fingers tapping on that pricey miniature screen instead of holding the hands of their parents or whoever else is accompanying them. But now, many kids ignore us and focus on their electronics, and this is not fair. About an hour or two is fine for them. But what I had realize when am in parties is that their parents give their little kids electronics so the adults can have fun and drink. This is the argument that I trip about because you shouldn’t give a kid an electronic instead you should take your kids to the park or something, keep them distracted from an electronic that can ruin their vision. Another thing that I realize is that half of you parents don’t check what your kids are doing and watching. Well this phone issue basically goes for everyone. But since kids are vulnerable and easily influenced they
