When someone looks at an overweight person, young or old, there is no argument that they should incorporate more exercise into their life, so why haven't they? There are many reasons why people say that they cannot go to the gym. Most of them are just excuses because people are lazy and do not want to put the time and effort into it. But, some people who are overweight tend to show signs of low self-esteem and may not be comfortable with exercising in public because of this. This makes it very hard for them to get motivated so instead they choose to hide away in within the comfort of their own house where no one can see them and they eat away their sorrows. They do not want to go out and do anything because they do not have the energy for it and would rather just stay at home and continue to snack on food because that fast food never truly filled them up. What many people are unaware of is how easy it is to gain fat than it is to lose it. According to research, “A 155 pound man burns, on average, 1,800 calories and 132 pound woman burns, on average, 1,400 calories, this is before either of them does any type of activity” (Cutler, Glaeser, and Shapiro 99). One pound of fat is 3500 calories which some people can easily eat in one sitting, depending on how good their choice of food is and whether they can eat food in small proportions or not. A person's body burns calories all throughout the day and even while they are sleeping but depending on how many calories they take in during the day versus how many they burn throughout the day is the factor on whether or not their body beings to store all the extra calories. The body normally stores them as fat and over time that fat will continue to build if that person does not start burning those extra calories that they take in. The more fat a person has on them the more stress that their body has to deal with to function properly. First off, a person's joints in their lower body will compress due to the extra weight, this will begin to tighten surrounding muscles
