PepsiCo is the company that will be getting investigated, based on their lobbying tactics. PepsiCo produces many products. The product that they are most recognized by is their Pepsi Cola, Mountain Dew, 7 UP, and Sierra Mist. They produce other types of beverages some of those are; Tropicana Orange juice, Lipton Ice Tea, Gatorade, Aquafina water and Brisk Ice Tea. They also are the ones producing Starbucks cold beverages, such as the iced Frappuccino’s and the double shot energy drinks. Along with beverages PepsiCo also produces many different kinds of chips including Tostitos, Lays, Cheetos, Doritos, Ruffles and Fritos. Looking at a graph of their spending it looks quite odd; from 2005-2008 they barely spent over 1 million each year in lobbying. In 2009, they sky rocketed to spending around 9.4 million dollars in one year. The following year they went down to a little bit under 7 million. The up rise in lobbying could have something to do with the recession and the change of the political party of the executive government. After 2009-2010 they have dropped a substantial amount, and have stayed around 3.25-3.5 million dollars per year in lobbying.
PepsiCo’s top four issues that they are hoping to influence are the food industry, agriculture, taxes and heath issues. I believe that they are interested in the food industry because they are a leading brand in the food and beverage industry, so it would only make sense that they put a lot of money towards this. Since they are a leader in the food industry they also care about the agricultural issues. They need corn, wheat, beans and other crops to make their products. They would want to have an influence on the rules and regulations that would be applied to their products. PepsiCo also cares about taxes. This one would be affecting the corporate tax that the company would have. These taxes could be quite high since they are such a large company.
