Percy Jackson faces multiple challenges throughout the book “Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Sea of Monsters.” From beginning to end Percy and his mates were interrupted various times at various places, most of those interruptions took place at sea. In pursuit of The Golden Fleece, Percy, Tyson, and Annabeth ended up on the ship Clarisse was directing. Clarisse led the CSS Birmingham to what she believed was the easiest way into the Sea of Monsters. As they attempted to get past Charybdis, Tyson pointed out that the ship lacked the strength to get past her whirlpool. Tyson, realizing what the ship’s future would be, risked his life by going down to the boiler room and putting his mechanical knowledge to the test. A few minutes later, …show more content…
As they approached the Island of Sirens, Percy decided not to listen to them since their song tempted people to kill themselves. Annabeth engineered a way to “safely” listen to them, by being tied down to the ship. After a while, Percy noticed Annabeth had liberated herself. Percy dived into the sea and located Annabeth swimming towards the sirens. He got a hold of her ankle and struggled for a few minutes before he realized sound gets distorted underwater. He utilized his powers to submerge Annabeth and himself. Percy also exploited his powers to attract a bubble of air so that Annabeth could breathe. Percy and Annabeth had successfully reached the island where the Golden Fleece was hidden. On the path to the Fleece, there was a herd of car-sized flesh-eating sheep. After debating about how they would get to the top, Annabeth and Percy picked climbing the steep side of the hill avoiding the herd. They arrived at the top of the mountain, just to find Clarisse on the verge of being boiled into a meal. Clarisse quickly became aware of the whole Polyphemus and Grover situation and explained to the Cyclops it was really Grover, a Satyr, in a bridal dress. She even went on to provoke him with suggestions on how to best season a Satyr. Polyphemus then spoke out and shared his plan to marry Clarisse and serve Grover afterward. The Cyclops placed Clarisse and Grover in a cave and continued
We have all read books about heroes and monsters and princesses in towers, one of these books that I have read is Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief. Many people like this book, and here are a couple reason why I loved reading this story. Including how the hero defeats the evil, and how he saves the world. A modern life high school boy who gets thrown into chaos.
Polyphemus believes that he is in love with Galatea, yet does not think of her feelings, but rather assumes that he could make her much happier than Acis ever could. What Polyphemus fails to realize is that she really and truly loves Acis, not Polyphemus. When Polyphemus sees Galatea with Acis, he becomes angry. Galatea flees to the sea, and Acis is crushed with a huge rock. Again, the result is unfortunate; Acis is killed and Polyphemus doesn't get the girl. No one comes out victorious.

So Grover and Percy and the others were trying to find the demigods they are students and they did not know what is a demigod and if they are half bloods. that Greek gods exist, and have been closely observing western culture and ideas. The author draws parallels to Percy’s life, who is an American teenager, with that of Greek heroes. This parallel helps the readers to relate to the book, essentially engaging the young readers to learn about Greek mythology and the lessons of life that it teaches, in a not so bland way. The protagonist of the novel, Percy Jackson, is revealed to be special in some way. This section also develops other supporting characters, such as Chiron, Percy’s teacher, who also was mentor to Hercules and Grover, who is Percy’s sidekick, a multi-dimensional character with his own past, hopes and concerns. The association of Chiron and Percy foretells that Percy will carry on heroic deeds in future. Percy fights Minotaur, a monster that even Theseus fought and defeated. In the process of defeating Minotaur, Percy loses his mother, which he feels was his last hope to returning to his normal human life. By drawing parallels between Percy and various heroes of Greek Mythology, the author shows Percy in the light of a hero. A hero who is yet to prove his worth in the Camp Half-Blood. His encounter with Clarisse at a bathroom in camp, allows him to show his strength, which was very similar to that of his father Poseidon, but also instils in some ways fear amongst the camp
Percy and his class are on a field trip. He has a friend called Grover ( who turns out to be a satyr sent to look after him and a teacher he feels he can trust and who believes in him( who turns out to be the centaur, Chiron)
Percy wakes up at a place called camp half-blood. Camp half-blood is created by magical borders in order to protect demigods so they can continue to train while being safe. After entering camp half-blood Percy learns about his identity of being a demigod. A demigod is child from a human and Greek god parent. He learns that he’s the son of one the three major Gods, Poseidon. Also, that his mother is very much alive but is kidnapped by Hades one of the three major Gods as well. Percy then goes into training and utilizes his dragon to be a positive trait that helps him settle into his new life. As his dyslexia functions for mythology and his ADHD helps him keep moving in
Throughout the Odyssey. Odysseus faced many obstacles he passed all of them he past all of them to get to his penelope and son. Son obstacles were harder than others but the three hardest obstacles he had to face was the cyclopes island, going through scylla and charybdis, and arriving home too all those sutures.
Have you ever wondered if gods were real? In “Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief” they are. There is a prophecy made at Camp Half-Blood, a place where half-bloods (people who have a mortal parent and a parent who is a god) live to stay safe from monsters that want to kill them. The prophecy is said by the Oracle, a magical being that inhibits a mummy’s body and spouts prophecies from time to time, telling what will happen during quests that half-bloods take. It stays in the attic of the “Big House” a place where the director of the camp lives. This particular prophecy revolves around Percy Jackson, son of Poseidon. The prophecy comes true, but in ways that surprise Percy and his friends: Annabeth, daughter of Athena and
The movie Percy Jackson Lightning thief transforms the legend of perseus by modernization of the hero's journey, the hero archetypes, and classic hero themes. Percy Jackson is not the same hero as perseus, but they do have a lot of things in common. The movie, Percy Jackson The Lightning Thief directed by Christopher Colombus was about how Hades, took Percy's mom because he thinks that Percy has Zeus’s lightning bolt. The story of Perseus published by D'Aulaire is about how the hero Perseus needed a wedding gift for polydectes, so he whent to kill medusa.
What is a hero? According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, and hero is “ in mythological or legendary figure often of divine descent in Dallas with great strength or ability.” Dictionary.com describes a hero as someone “ noted for courageous acts on nobility of character or someone who in the opinion of others has special achievements, abilities, or personal qualities and is regarded as a role model or Idol.” My personal definition is someone who is seen as sort of a higher up position but has a fatal flaw that inevitably leads to their downfall. You could some all of these definitions up and call Percy Jackson a hero.
The Odyssey, written by Homer, tells the story of the hero Odysseus as he tries to make his way home from the battle at Troy. His journey is filled with hardships and opportunities to grow and change as a man and become a better person. Percy Jackson and The Olympians: Sea of Monsters, written by Rick Riordan, is about two 12/13-year-old friends, Percy and Annabeth, who are children of Poseidon and Athena respectively. They go on a quest to rescue their friends and the camp they attend, where children of the gods are protected. Percy and Annabeth also go through hardships which help them to grow and develop characteristics that are valued in society. Both Homer and Riordan reveal the personality traits of their characters, and the
Percy Jackson isn't expecting freshman orientation to be any fun. But when a mysterious mortal acquaintance appears on campus, followed by demon cheerleaders, things quickly move from bad to worse. In this latest installment of the blockbuster series, time is running out as war between the Olympians and the evil Titan lord Kronos draws near. Even the safe haven of Camp Half-Blood grows more vulnerable by the minute as Kronos' army prepares to invade its once impenetrable borders. To stop the invasion, Percy and his demigod friends must set out on a quest through the Labyrinth - a sprawling underground world with stunning surprises at every turn. Along the way Percy will confront powerful enemies, find out the truth about the lost god Pan, and face the Titan lord Kronos’s most terrible secret. After the adventure at Percy’s birthday, Poseidon appeared. Then, Nico came and told Percy that he knew how to defeat the titan armies for good.
In the film, however, the majority of Percy’s journey is to locate and enter the Underworld in order to rescue his mother from Hades. Once again, the changes contribute to the plot of the story and remain entertaining for audiences.
A cultural product that inspires me is the film trilogy The Lord of the Rings, which was directed by Peter Jackson. This movie gave me inspiration because of how beautiful and well put together the film was. It made me want to be involved with the process of how great films are made. According to Wikipedia, “Jackson knew he wanted to bring the movie to the big screen, and was curious to why nobody decided to do so.” He wanted to take advantage of the new technology, and create a fantasy that was serious and felt real (Wikipedia, 2014). Peter Jackson demonstrates the art and business of the film in many ways, which is culturally inspiring.
