On Victoria Day, I made my family a small meal consisting of salad, tomato soup, chicken pot pie, and cookies. Albeit simple on paper, it was much more difficult in practice. For one, I am a terrible chef, so making a four course meal was not the easiest of tasks. I even prepared the soup and cookies a day in advance, but even so, it was very tiring and many problems arose. For example, only until the day before had I realized that they did not like cheesecake. So I had to make do with what I had leftover in my kitchen and made some very cakey cookies. My version of a perfect day is waking up at seven o'clock in the morning. My father and I would go to the "Old Gym" and practice. First, he and I would work on form shooting or what we call "fifties." We would then go over some of my basic ball handling drills such as the zigzag switch, zigzag spin, zigzag behind the back and between the legs. Then we would get on the computer at home and look at the top NBA or WNBA player or players' new line or lines of shoes. Afterwards, we would go to The Outback Steakhouse. Finally, we would go home and take a long, luxurious nap, but, not before saying hi to Mom, Colt, and Braedon.

Buy Nothing Day is a day in which people are encouraged to not purchase any goods. The first Buy Nothing Day was in Canada in 1922. Buy Nothing Day is to increase the awareness of excessive consumerism. Buy Nothing Day could benefit the economy in many ways like; it teaches people what it is like to not easily buy things, it will make the people appreciate things more, and it saves money.

Everyday there are things being bought and people buying them. Someone must have thought about hoe it would be like to not buy anything. They might have thought about a day when they do not spend their money. The day called Buy Nothing Day helps to fill the curiosity. The day encourages people to not buy anything. Buy Nothing Day helps understand what it would be like to buy nothing, how much money is spent, and realize how money affects everything.

The practice of buying has been around since the dawn of time for humans. It makes sense that there would be a day where nothing is bought or sold. That is the case in Canada where they celebrate yearly Buy Nothing Day. It has emerged in Canada as a way to clean the environment and the economy. This holiday also helps people realize the impact of spending and capitalism.

In 1992, Canada introduced the first Buy Nothing Day. On this day people are persuaded to refrain from buying anything to help encourage the awareness of excessive consumerism. Excessive consumerism has been an ongoing problem here in the United States. In the current era, there is too much of an emphasis on commercialism, that people are associating happiness with material items, which is why Buy Nothing Day needs to be a national holiday in the United States. Money makes the world go round, and some would argue that if there was just one day that no economic traffic occurred, the outcome would detrimental to the economy of the United States.

My first visit to Daybreak consisted mostly of learning about the facility and helping the girls work on their team building projects. When we first arrived, I begin to realize how serious the situation these girls are in is. I was told to put a lock on my phone and to not share too much information about myself. At first I was extremely nervous, but once we entered the common room with all the girls I started to feel more comfortable. These girls have been through more then I could ever imagine. I have been sheltered from drug abuse for most of my life and I never could have thought that girls so young could get caught up in hard drugs such as crack and heroin.

The very first album that I owned was Coldplay’s “Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends.” In my opinion, it is the best album the Britpop band has yet to release. I couldn’t wait to come home after school to drop my bag at the door, run up the stairs and listen to Viva la Vida on my brother’s hand-me-down iPod.
