The period of Reconstruction began after the Civil War ended. There were many leaders, goals and accomplishments that were involved and needed to rebuild our separated country. The main idea of this period of time was to protect and ensure the rights of African Americans but it had failed because of the restrictions and acts on the African Americans. The people in the South were terrorized by an American hate organization called the Ku Klux Klan (or the KKK). Republicans in Congress, argued on whether the freemen should vote alongside whites.The disagreements and different views from the North and South help aid the Reconstruction into a spiraling downfall. Racism was a big and struggling problem in America, even after the Civil War. During the Reconstruction was the creation of the Ku Klux Klan which is one of what I think is the most known racist group. The KKK bordered and terrorized southerners. Under the Mississippi Black Code of 1867, all freed blacks were given the right to be employed, to have their own property and to be taught how to read and write. As you’re seeing, the law had constant government support to ensure equal rights to everybody regardless of the color of their skin. The rights the code granted were denied to them before the Civil War. Despite the grant of certain rights, the Mississippi Black Code also imposed restrictions against the newly freed blacks which constituted denial of basic rights.
