When I first started reading The Perks of Being a Wallflower, I did not like it. The boring, childish writing style made me lost my interest and I was sure that this book is going to be another "waste of time". However, the moment I fished this novel I felt strongly embarrassed because it proved me how wrong I was. This is one of the best books I have ever read in this year. Even though it does not have fancy words or dramatic describing style, it still touched the softest part of my heart.

High school is filled with fake people and stress. Students in high school often do not know what they are doing in relationships or how bad they can hurt another person. Lying, cheating, little communication, getting used for sex, drugs, or alcohol and what people continue to believe is real love. It is even harder while trying to make the people around you ecstatic and please your boyfriend/girlfriend. Navigating through the paroles of adolescents with someone that is guaranteed to break your heart in some way, shape, or form is laborious. In Stephen Chbosky’s The Perks of Being a Wallflower, the main character Charlie has to navigate all of this while trying to maintain new friendships, try new things, and find new relationships. As presented in the book Charlie is a wallflower. A wallflower is typically an introverted person. They might attend social gatherings, but will continue to remain silent. They see and understand. They feel lonely or shy all the time. As if no one ever see’s them. Also only have a few friends, just like Charlie. His 2 friends are Sam and Patrick. Patrick’s a senior, introducing Charlie to new people, new relationships, and giving him the whole high school experience. They all have something in common, they’re all involved foul relationships. Charlie and Mary Elizabeth, Brad and Patrick, and Sam and Craig. Chbosky displays insolent relationships throughout the book using young adolescent relationships in Perks that are unfair because the people in
Emotional Instability can develop into a mental illness and is most often caused by a traumatic event early in life. This can result in an individual growing up to have drastic mood swings without reason. Examples of these mood swings are lashing out, dangerous and reckless behavior, crying randomly, isolating oneself from society, and experimenting with alcohol and drugs. Stephen Chbosky’s novel, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, follows a socially awkward boy named Charlie entering high school after his only companion, Michael, commits suicide. Under those circumstances, it is evident that this experience has impacted Charlie because he often becomes overly aggressive or breaks down crying for no reason.
Stephen Chbosky’s novel The Perks of Being a Wallflower is an important novel for everyone, but especially adolescents, to read. The main character, despite all his flaws, provides an insightful look into the world of a traumatized person. This trauma affects everything Charlie does and hinders his growth as a person. Chbosky uses this novel to explore Charlie’s situation and demonstrates the profound effect trauma has on a person’s development. Only by understanding his trauma, is Charlie able to grow and function as he is supposed to. By doing this, Chbosky both informs the reader of a potential path to recovery and displays the effectiveness of problem novels.
The things that affects most people are happiness and depression. It’s always either happy or sad, no in between. But Chbosky brings a unique approach to the story. There is Fault in Our Stars and Paper Towns that are similar to this book. They both have the twisted, interesting plots.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower is my favorite book of all time. I read it the summer before freshman year when I was having trouble with coming to terms with how everyone was breaking up into cliques and trying to find where I belonged. This book was one of the most realistic depictions of the high school experience and I learned many life lessons from it. I will always appreciate
We chose to write about Patrick. Patrick is played by Ezra Matthew Miller at the age of 20. Patrick is a senior at the same high school Charlie goes to and shares wood class with him. He jokes a lot and doesn’t take things seriously and therefore he isn’t a very good student. In the beginning of the movie Patrick is joking around and leads him to getting the nickname nothing and soon everyone at school start calling him that. He has a stepsister named Sam who’s one of the main characters and they share their love with music. Patrick is homosexual and has a boyfriend named Brad. He doesn’t struggle with being gay but his boyfriend does so they keep their relationship a secret. When Brad’s dad
My favorite book is Perks of being a wallflower. What makes this book my favorite is the characters and the realism of the situations their thrown into through the book. This book stands alone clearly as my favorite book because it relates to High School and the developmental stages you travel through. The book exemplifies what its like to lose friends, be influenced, and deal with loss. Charlie the outcast-ed, awkward boy is what in the story they designate as a wall flower which means he is standoff, shy, and often excluded. He is more of a listener and thinker than he is a talker and enthusiast. Charlie goes through many ups and downs and deals with loss often throughout the story. One day two characters come along named Sam and Patrick.
