I am interested in participating in the Perry Outreach Program to further explore my interests in medicine and engineering. I have always been interested in pursuing a career in medicine. When I was in middle school, I was interested in neurosurgery, and in high school I became interested in cardiovascular surgery. To further explore these interests, I went to MUSC to shadow Dr. Nicole Cain last summer to see if a job in medicine was the right fit for my career interests. Dr. Cain let me observe her and other cardiologists at MUSC for a week. I learned all about the basics of her job, the surgeries they were performing, and the resident students even began testing me on the things they had taught me throughout the week. That week was probably …show more content…
After taking two years of calculus and traveling to Tanzania with globalbike to deliver bikes to women in rural villages, I have realized how much I love math and how much I would love to utilize my math and science skills to aid third world countries. I have recently been struggling to find a job/major that incorporates aspects of both engineering and medicine on a global level. Until I discovered the Perry Initiative I did not think this was possible. A Job in orthopedics appears to fit my interests perfectly. I would like to attend the Perry Outreach Program to learn more about orthopedics and the influence it has on society; the hands on activities this program provides would be exceptionally beneficial in presenting me with an overview of orthopedics and bio-mechanical engineering. I believe that there is no better way to learn about my interests than participating in hands-on experiments, which is exactly what the Perry Outreach Program provides. Even though this program is only one day, it would provide me with the same opportunity I was given this summer—further assisting me in finding the career path that best fits my many
My advisor gave me the basic facts about the program stating that is a combination of healthcare and technology. I thought to myself “Perfect!” I have always known that I wanted to be in the healthcare field in some form of fashion and I have always amazed by the benefits of use of technology. Being able to put my two interests together was ideal for because I know I would enjoy the career path that I have chosen. So I
Just as the institution is eager to continue embracing the ever-changing world of healthcare and medicine, I too embody this same distinguishing characteristic. Throughout my undergraduate experiences I have learned in order to be a steward and servant of the medical profession one must exercise teamwork, service, empathy, accountability, and optimism; all of which coincide with the tenets that are declared by the Meharry Medical College, School of Medicine culture. Attending this medical school would be one of the greatest rewards for my motivation and persistence. I know for certain there would be no greater experience than to be a part of the Meharry Medical College
James Richard (Rick) Perry was the forty- seventh governor of Texas. He served from 2000-2015. Perry grew up as a farmer, so he knows what it is like to work hard for what you have. Perry also served in the United States Air force from 1972-1977. While in the air force, he flew a C-130 tactical airlift plane over Europe and the Middle- East. Perry is also a lifetime member of the NRA (National Rifle Association) and of the American Legion Post. Before being elected as Lt. Governor, Perry served two terms as Texas Commissioner of Agriculture and three terms in the Texas House of Representatives.
Rick Perry was born on March 4, 1950 in Paint Creek, Texas. As a boy he was active in boy scouts and eventually earned the highest rank of Eagle Scout. In 1968 he graduated from Paint Creek High School in 1968 and entered Texas A&M University. In 1972 he graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelors Degree in Animal Science. While in college he joined Corps of Cadets and earned commission in the Air-Force. He left the Air-Force in 1977 and to enter the cotton farming business with his dad.
After visiting numerous countries and states on 5 continents, I have learned that education-something commonly taken for granted here- is not always equally distributed or is inaccessible due to poverty or segregation in various places. Therefore, I surmise that attending the Stanford CSI Program is an opportunity that should not be thrown away; rather, it should be embraced because many are barred from having any education whatsoever. If I am selected to participate in this program, I would bring my intellectual curiosity: this desire to learn in the hopes of applying the insight I gain in the future. I always branch out, break the status quo, and apply myself to any activity I am a part of to create an exceptional work environment for anyone I work with. Given my self-driven tenacity and passion to become a medical professional, I believe that I will be a valuable asset to the Stanford CSI Internship. Through this program, I would get the opportunity to probe the workings of various medical specialties and gain knowledge, maturity, and responsibility; however, I'm applying because I know that my future begins
As a part of the HBCU Alumni Alliance’s Higher Education initiative program; Alumni of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) are concerned about the inadequate representation of minorities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) related professions. Consequently, DCHBCUAA STEM professionals have designed and organized an instructional hands-on STEM workshop for students in grades 10-12, to enlighten them on the different facets of professions available in the sciences. As a part of our community partnership with Kaiser Permanente, we have a workshop scheduled for Saturday, April 29, 2017, from 800 am-5:00 pm, at 2101 Jefferson Street in Rockville, Maryland.
In Fall 2017, I plan to attend Florida International University to obtain my bachelor degree in Biology. After I obtain my bachelor’s in biology I plan to go to school and become an orthopedic surgical assistant. During my time as an orthopedic surgical assistant, I want to be able to go to
As a student, I strive for excellence in my academics and school involvement to pursue a career in the medical field. By taking rigorous high school classes such as IB, and honor courses,
I am interested in being a part of the Camp MD program because I really love the medical field and I want to make new friends there who share the same thought towards the medical field as me. Anything and everything medical related has always been so fascinating to me ever since I was a little kid. It has had my eye because my family was always at the hospital dealing with surgeries, chemo treatments, and illnesses. And I thought it was cool how the doctors were able to help those who were sick and dying. In school, I have taken a medical terminology class in order to help get me started with the medical field, and next year I will be taking an anatomy and physiology class along with a CNA class to help pay for schooling. I am wanting to become
I, Ronnishia Thomas should be selected to take part in the CLAHEC CI:Healthcare 2017 program. I should be selected because it is an exciting opportunity that I would like to take advantage of. I am a senior and I want to make sure I'm choosing the career best for me. I've been saying that I want to be an Obstetric Sonographer since the beginning of time and I'm not sure if I want to change it or not. I want to explore Radiologic Technology, Surgical Technology, Respiratory Therapy, Forensic Science, and more. One thing about me is that I love to help people. I believe that it's important to have a trait as such when wanting to pursue a career in the medical field. I think this program will benefit me because I haven't started college and this
Next, science is the light that keeps us out of the dark ages. If science did not evolve, we would have many unanswered questions related to real life, die with terrifying diseases, and starve without hygiene and nutritious food. Because science has an impact on every aspect of our lives, I am eager in exploring this immense field of study and improve society through healthcare. When it comes to STEM field and school, on top of maintaining good GPA and grades, I devote my time well to my extracurriculars. Starting 7th grade, my passion for opting the medical field has strengthened due to my influential pediatrician. This enhanced drastically as I started gaining many volunteering and shadowing experiences throughout high school. As a freshman, I started taking advantage of majority of the opportunities around me like joining HOSA (Health Occupations Students Of America), Steminism, NHS, UPMC Passavant, Senior Living Facility. Covering a wide range of areas in healthcare-- volunteering/shadowing a geriatrician, pharmacist, nurse, surgeon and more-- solidified my aspiration. However, when I think about the medical field, clinical is not the only side. Research plays a huge role in medicine because without this, we would have inadequate knowledge about science and also would not have access to all these sophisticated treatments. Bayer School Scholars Program is a great opportunity for students like me to
Attending Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine’s would allow me to contribute to the mission of developing solutions to help residents of Washington. Whether it was developing innovative teaching methods in coaching or finding solutions to challenges faced in research, part of my personality is finding unique and innovative solutions to challenges I face. Through the school I would be able to work with rural medical offices and hospitals, in collaboration with the technology incubator, to develop technology that would make providing healthcare easier and more affordable.
I am highly interested in attending MASH, because I want to learn first-hand the career I want to pursue. I have wanted to be an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner ever since my APRN showed me how rewarding it was to help other people by healing them and being there for them in their time of need. This program appeals to me because I am always wanting to learn as much as I can about health care and what it takes to have a health care career. I could bring a positive energy to this program with a smiling face and positive attitude. I am always willing to learn and have an open mind. Attending the lectures, participating in the hands on activities, and shadowing is exactly the opportunity I have been looking for and would be extremely grateful
On campus I’m associated with the FYRIS program. The top two research-driven courses are the Phylogenetics and taxonomy and supramolecular materials II. My immediate and future career interest is to enroll in a physician assistant school and practice medicine. Working in a hospital or other healthcare settings is something I can wake up and do every single day with a smile on my face. One thing that appeals to me the most about becoming a physician assistant is the endless opportunities. I have the freedom to examine patients, diagnose injuries, and provide treatments under supervision of physicians and surgeons. In Dr. Eli Greenbaum program the research focus of the field of molecular systematics which is very important to my major and career
UNMC is a very prestigious school and hospital. It is known for their accomplishments nation-wide. When this opportunity came, I had no choice but to take it. I am applying for the UNMC High School Alliance program to get more experience in the medical field. Being accepted in this program would help me in many ways, including getting accepted into colleges and possibly medical schools down the road. While attending this program, I would get a more in-depth, hands on, experience in the medical field. This experience and the crucial information I learn by participation in this program, will help launch my career path to become an Orthopedic Surgeon. This job specifically interests me because of the challenges that come along with this occupation.
