Perseverance is like a shadow. It follows us around, but consequently, we can’t always see it. It’s also like a rainbow, it appears after the harshest of storms. I have heard stories of people and their ideas of perseverance. I have experienced it myself, but I will save that for later. Right now I want to tell you peoples perspective and their stories. I would like to start off with Anne Frank, a young girl who has lived long beyond her years. Anne Frank was only fourteen when she and her family went into hiding during WWII. She trembled in fear for two years not knowing when it would end, or if there was an end. Young Anne took her pain and fear and turned it into a passion she wrote in her diary as though it was a very trusted friend. She filled the pages with all of her thoughts, bad or good. She was always very positive and always lifted spirits despite the current events. That is where her perseverance appears. She chose to be happy when she could’ve been sad, and her happiness and perseverance kept her sane. She will always live on and be a huge example of perseverance. I recently researched some important figures, J.K. Rowling, and Nick Vujicic. They have completely different stories but one common factor, …show more content…
My whole life my brother has been in and out of jail, my best friend was diagnosed with cancer, and my sister moved in with my sister because of her own issues. My life has not been perfect, but my light at the end of any tunnel is there. I make the best of memories with my brother when he is home. Nevertheless Jordan is cancer free and always there for me. I don’t see my sister much, but we manage to talk and stay a team. I’m actually thankful for the things I’ve been through because it only made it stronger. Through all of the hard times, I found my journey with God and I cannot be more thankful for what God has provided for me. I am an example of
The film Cinderella Man shows multiple examples of perseverance. Perseverance is when someone is determined to go through tough obstacles and difficulties, no matter how hard they seem to be. If someone were to face obstacles that seem impossible, they could go through them, or persevere, and try their best to overcome it instead of just giving up. If someone was to have perseverance, they would be persistent and continuously stay in the state they are, no matter how hard their problems are. Cinderella Man has multiple examples of this because the main character, James J. Braddock, perseveres through the difficult time that is the Great Depression. He took risks to fend for his family and never succumbed to his negative feelings when he faced problems that would feel almost impossible. James Braddock had shown examples of perseverance in the movie Cinderella Man.
Perseverance changes everyone's lives no matter how big, or how small the change is. Steven King has persevered through his rough times writing his first novel. So has Buck, the main dog in Call of the Wild. He has never given up on what he’s strived for. There are a ton more perseverance examples in life, and books on how someone had a rough time, got through it, and succeed.
What is the definition of perseverance? Well, according to the Oxford English Dictionary, perseverance is “steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success”. The quirky, ambitious Junior and the creative, enthusiastic Randy Pausch both display immense amounts of perseverance. Junior demonstrates this by attending Reardan High School to prove that he is still alive and reaching for his goals. Randy Pausch displays his perseverance through his brick walls; the obstacles in one’s life and how they show how bad one desires something. The two individuals are enduring through the challenges in their lives, and eventually are able to overcome them.
The main plot of The Witch in the Well by Sharan Newman was about how myths impacted the life of the people. However, interwoven in this plot was the role of women, and Catherine being different and breaking some of the barriers of the time, which contributed to my understanding of 12th century France as well as added to the knowledge that I had gained through this course.
The story “Through the Tunnel” by Doris Lessing has a main theme of perseverance throughout the entire story. The young boy in the story, Jerry, is the main character, and he was going to overcome his fear. He had been contemplating if he should go down through the hole, or tunnel, that the big kids were going through. The only problem was that he had to hold his breath for a long time under the water. He is a great example of what the story is mainly about, if you do not give up and you persevere, you can achieve things you never thought you could.
Another piece of literature that shows perseverance is Temple Grandin. She had autism and at the time when she was born, they didn’t know much about the disability. So she grew up with problems
Perseverance is a trait that is needed throughout life. In the book, Call of the Wild, Buck has to adapt to a new lifestyle in the frosty Yukon, unlike his previous life in sunny California. He is put to the test of survival and maturity. Like Buck, my mom has to use perseverance to get through a time in her life where she struggled, but her journey was much less extreme. She went back to college for her master’s degree to become a nurse practitioner, while dealing with her job, money, and more importantly, her family.
Perseverance is the only thing that will truly keep the world alive. If humans had given up instead of persevering America would not exist, tyranny would reign and slavery would still exist. Several characters throughout literary history, such as Odysseus from Homers’ Odyssey, and Louis Zamperini in Unbroken are the prime examples of perseverance, and they did it through personal strength and determination to not be broken. After all, it is better to persevere and live a hellish life than to relinquish that life in order to live more comfortably in the hands of those who seek to degrade the soul.
There comes a time in life when perseverance shows one’s true potential. The story“Unbroken” written by Laura Hillenbrand shows legendary runner Louie Zamperini and showed how he truly represented that. Throughout this story it displays what the true meaning of perseverance; whether, it’s something as little as staying committed to track or fighting in World War Two and trying to fight for life even if there seems like there’s nothing to fight for. If someone is commited no matter the time or the difficulty that doesn’t just show perseverance, but it shows one’s true ability to fight for and try for something they want to accomplish.
"...pain is in itself an evil; and indeed, without exception, the only evil; or else the words good and evil have no meaning." (Chase 127) In the novel The Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne presents a very clear view of his stand on morality, which he carefully cultivates through the course of the story. The moral, which is "Be true!" applies equally well to all of the characters in the novel. Though his view does seem to stand as true through the length of the story, it does not, unfortunately, transfer as smoothly to our lives today. In essence it is a hedonistic view to take, which requires a slight stretch as to his interpretation as to how evil, and important, an individual's pain is unto
Perseverance is found throughout the world and you can see that in these stories. From a group of boys who traveled across the world to a man born without limbs bringing peace, perseverance is such a powerful thing. Even poems only 20 lines long can show the strife of a person lost without perseverance. So in the end, without perseverance, we wouldn’t have the power to push through, and have the liberties that we have
Before providing context into the history of social equity in public administration and a discussion of the major challenges that confront public administrators in the delivery of equitable public services. It is important to know how this study defines social equity and public services. The definition of social equity is taken from NAPA and is defined as “The fair, just, and equitable [emphasis added] management of all institutions serving the public directly or by contract; and the fair and equitable distribution of public services, and implementation of public policy; and the commitment to promote fairness, justice, and equity [emphasis added] in the formation of public policy” (as cited in Norman-Major, 2011, p. 237). Public services are
Another story that showed perseverance is, “Mother to Son”. “Mother to son” was a poem about a mother showing her son not to give up. To show grit, determination, and perseverance. The mother talks about how life isn't always fair, but you can't complain, you
More so, God said, “It’s not good for a man to be alone.” It’s sure good to be with you!
What is perseverance? Perseverance is the ability to go on when things seem hopeless. It is also a measure of success, or at least how much sacrifice one is willing to make in the name of success. As students, it is impossible to achieve personal success without having a goal, or direction. The goal and direction that often propels us to achieve is perseverance. Perseverance is the ability to forge ahead despite setbacks that threaten to undermine all efforts to succeed.
