This paper with be providing information on my own personal communication skills. A communications skill assessment was taken and analyzed. There will be a description of any communication gaps that I may have and any additional training in specific areas of communication that I many need. I will also describe how I can improve the communication skills that I possess in order to prepare me for any future advancement in my profession.
The assessment that was taken on www.mindtools.com, the Communication Quiz assessment is titled, "How Good Are Your Communication Skills? Speaking, Listening, Writing, and Reading Effectively" This assessment is used to see how good of a communicator you are, taking your reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills into consideration. The way you communicate with others is essential to your success and an important component of self-image. “Simply possessing high writing confidence then increases the writer’s chances of performing well because the writer is ready, willing, and able to do the necessary work” (Mascle, D. D., 2013).When composing a message, you must write with care, being precise with clear detail. Interpersonal Communication Competence is defined as constantly communicating in a way that is effective, appropriate, and ethical (McCornack, 2016). When a person is communicating competently, they are following social norms, are able to accomplish their goals, and treating persons in an unbiased manner. In my paper I will be discussing my own interpersonal communication competence and the evaluations that I, and my close companions, have made about my ability to communicate proficiently. I will begin my essay by explaining what effective and appropriate communication consists of, and follow up with my argument on how effective and appropriate I am in my interpersonal relationships. As I continue I will examine my empathy and why I am strong in this aspect of communication, followed by my deliberation of my conversation management and why I am weak in this category and how I could possibly improve. As I near the conclusion of my paper I will focus on my interpersonal communication motivation, knowledge, and skills. After reporting my scores in each category I will reflect on my skills, my lowest score, and explore why I am poorest at this quality and how I can grow in my capabilities. Overall I am a competent communicator, but enhancements can be made in my conversation management, effectiveness and skills in order to build up my competence.
In this course, we learned about the importance of communication what the process is involved to effectively get your point across whether it be to co-worker or on general. Add this to a business setting poor communication can cause the company to lose money, and waste of time from their employees add poor listening skill you have a disaster in the making. After taking the self-assessment test on communication scored 50, which translate of to me capable communicator, but sometimes experience communication problems. The test says I should take the time to think about my approach to communication, along with focusing on receiving messages effectively, as much as sending them. I could not agree more, always had issues commutations my thoughts properly. However, this is more seen in writing skills then speaking or conversation. Thought the score would have been lower but 50 is more on the higher scale, ever taking the test another day scored about the same. This is going
This paper reviews effective communication skills and caregiving approaches which include questioning techniques, non-verbal communication, paraphrasing, and active listening. The different types of questions are open and closed ended and they encouraged effective communication in our conversation. When I first met my client, Jackie Hart, she was in the hospital with a broken hip. She lives alone in a senior apartment complex and she has no family. She was transferred to a nursing home for six weeks of rehab after her hip surgery. Jackie was adamant that she was going to return home after her stay in the nursing home. I got Jackie set up with Comfort Keepers so that once she returned home they would provide a bath aide 3x a week, light housekeeping aide 2x a week, and an aide to transport Jackie to the grocery store 1x a week. The goal of this test is to determine how effectively someone communicates with others, as well as to offer beneficial advice in order to improve any problems one may have that could slow down the communication process. This test is a valuable instrument for employees in the counseling profession since it is a career of constant growth. It also seems useful in several other careers that rely on constant communication.
