Introduction With an ever expanding social network, humans today have the ability to communicate with a stranger somewhere else in the world in a matter of a few clicks. Taking this into account, social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and many more continue to grow their user base and consequently data regarding their user base. As social media companies turn data collection into knowledge, and as a society we become more intertwined, it is important to consider if the data is protected, accurate, and provided with consent. Subsequently, it is apparent that the use of personal data to understand users and their habits is a growing trend and provides social media platforms the opportunity to market products differently and even help users facing a mental illness. Keeping this in mind, this study revolves around whether personal data is accurate and should be used to help those showing signs of mental illness. The Interview Protocol for this study was generated by the IS 375 – Discovering User Needs for UX creating a semi-structured interview composed of “Get To Know You” questions followed by Behavioral Questions, and Main-Purpose questions. Specifically, I interviewed two people who’s answers are the basis to the analysis, however, themes and general conclusions are based upon 15 interviews conducted by IS 375 students.
