Personal Essay: The Panthers Best Season

The Carolina Panthers were overwhelmed by the Denver Broncos during the Super Bowl 50 game, the ending score being 24-10. And while this super bowl was supposedly Peyton Manning’s last game of his career, the biggest topic of discussion seemed to be focused on Panther’s quarterback, Cam Newton.

To start things off, Football is known to be a popular American sport, As Nina Burleigh states in her essay “Would Football without Concussions Still Be Football?” That “Professional football is currently the most popular spectator sport in the United States” (610). Burleigh also mentioned “Currently the super bowl is the most watched sporting event in the United States, and it is also seen by millions of people around the world” (610). This goes to show you that Men, kids and even women enjoy watching the game whether its attending a little league football game every Saturday, A high school game every Friday or watching the NFL every Sunday on ESPN. “Such is the glory and delirium of American football – invigorating autumn air, the crack of a beer at the tailgate, the snuggling team logo sweat shirts” (Burleigh 611). The next smallest city with a professional football team is New Orleans, which is the 51st largest city in the country (Census). The reason the Green Bay Packers are so interesting is because they reside in such a small city, that their influence on Brown County’s economy must be large in comparison. The Carolina Panthers found themselves a star in Kelvin Benjamin drafting him 28th overall in 2014 draft. We took him 28th overall I think he has already become a steal for the Panthers and Dave Gettleman who is a great evaluator of talent. He took the NFL by storm becoming quarterback Cam Newton's favorite target right away and for good reason; setting Panther rookie records for receptions receiving yards and touchdowns with 79 catches 1008 yards and nine touchdowns.

A united university through sports is often a rarity. College football can be one of the most intense experience in college sports. But from September until February, there is a certain day that many America’s take such joy in participating in. And I’ll give you a hint: it is not going to church. When football season comes to the United States, many people become more social, often inviting friends and family to enjoy this weekly celebration. But football to many people is more than just a game. It is a social interaction that we as a community take part in. We pay quite a bit of money to attend their games. We watch never-ending commercials to see it at home…and for what?

Nine days till Christmas break. Just nine long and exhausting days separating us from sweet, freedom and our own lovely beds! When I watch the iconic Clemson "Moments" video, chills rush through my body and goosebumps rise. That could be me next year; experiencing those moments. Touring the campus in February, I got that moment. It is the one that every high school senior has no words to describe when they have the realization they have found their new home for the next chapter of their lives.
